He can't help but become the son his parents had already disowned. He's torn with what to do about it all, he doesn't want to be sucked back into that world of secrecy, lies and unrequited affections.

Notes:

for any history buffs out there, I’m aware that the walkman wasn’t released until 1979, however, seeing as this book takes place in 1977/78, for story purposes, I’ve made it available earlier! also there will be no smut in this story. even if the first chapter seems a little spicy. and any grammar mistakes you find, kindly point them out to me. I am but one humble person and cannot find time to meticulously edit the entire book thus far (unfortunately) thanks for reading and I hope you all enjoy!

final note, the story includes different pov types, which I know is probably a little unconventional but I don’t care haha. there are character first person pov chapters which take up the majority of the story. then there are also third person pov chapters kind of like the style of the prologue. those are used for throwback or information chapters and they’re rare so if that’s something you don’t enjoy or prefer, it’s not overbearing (I hope).

Chapter 1: 000 PROLOGUE

Chapter Text

⊱ ★ ⊰ ★ ⊱ ★ ⊰

Carina Elayne Toussaint was born to a very wealthy French pureblood family. Her family moved from France to the United Kingdom when her and her sister were still very young. Her father, Andre, was able to join the ministry where he and the Toussaint family name became just as well respected and known as they had been back in France. He was a strict man, who only really loved his wife. She was the one who kept him afloat, who showed him what it was to love.

Celeste, was the brightest and happiest soul anyone could ever meet. She was gentle, kind and accepting. She was truly the glue that held the whole family together. Celeste was a wonderful mother and a loving wife. She adored her two girls and raised them to love the world and everything that was in it.

Carina had a younger sister, Lizzie. Growing up, her and Lizzie were very close. They were practically bound at the hip. The two of them would spend all their time together, reading, playing and learning all sorts of magic from their mother. They learned to be kind to the world.

As the two grew older, it became obvious how different the girls were. Lizzie would always obey her parents wishes and listen to them. She wanted nothing more than to make them proud. Lizzie agreed with her parents views and beliefs because that's what she was taught to do.

Whereas Carina was often very vocal about topics her father deemed she shouldn't speak about at all. She was raised to be a 'proper lady' and had to act a certain way, follow strict rules that she never believed in. Lizzie and her were polar opposites.

But, Lizzie still looked up to her sister. She admired Carina's way of thinking, the way her sister viewed the world. The way Carina would speak her mind regardless of any repercussions. Lizzie hoped to always be beside her sister. For her sister to help guide her on the wrongs and rights. Lizzie adored Carina.

For Carina was the wilder spirit. She wanted to test boundaries and couldn't care less about what her parents deemed was right and wrong. She wanted to show the world that there was more than just good and evil, there was kindness and love and adventure.

To her the world wasn't black and white. It was full of color.

Regulus Arcturus Black was born to a very wealthy British pureblood family. His family was part of the Sacred 28, they were well known and respected within the wizarding community. His mother, Walburga, was a very strict and unloving woman who, it seemed , only really had children to continue their sacred bloodline. As bad as she was, she was also the main parental figure for both Regulus and Sirius. Their father, Orion, was just as strict as Walburga though he was rarely ever present in his sons lives. He left the child raising to his wife. Orion was a man devoted to his work in the ministry doing whatever it is that he did.

Regulus was known to be the quieter son of the Black's. He had always wanted to make his parents proud. He followed all their rules and obeyed their commands. He shared their beliefs and their goals unlike his older brother.

The sons of the Noble House of Black, Sirius and Regulus. The two of them were polar opposites. Growing up Regulus and Sirius had always been quite close. They did everything together. Whatever was allowed anyway. His brother vowed to always protect him. They were two halves of a whole. But Regulus always saw the wild spirit that his older brother had. He knew their bond wouldn't last. His doubts were solidified when his brother started school.

Regulus was torn. He wanted desperately to be right beside his brother. But the other half of him told him how wrong it would be to follow in his brothers footsteps. That other half screamed at him how wrong his brother was for being so different, for defying their parents, for being the family disappointment.

For running. For leaving him behind.

To him the world wasn't full of color. It was black and white.
