Capture The Flag: The Ultimate Betrayal

Summary:

They were rejected and Camp Half-Blood was so going to pay.

--------

Just a happy game of Capture The Flag!

Notes:

This is based on the story Percy and Annabeth had told in the 50 Chapter Special of Who Thought It Was A Good Idea To Put The Fate Of The Entire World In Seven Teenagers' Hands? (Long name, I know). That does not have to be read to understand this. (More like the opposite).

Again, you don't have to read the main fic in this series, you can read this on it's own.

Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

This was inevitable. They really should have seen this one coming , thought two demigods as they chuckled to themselves. They sat on a shared throne, just big enough for the both of them to squeeze in together side-by-side, and were encased in the center of a watery dome. No one could reach the center to reclaim what had been stolen. No one could hold their breaths long enough and whenever it seems that the one who dared to venture through this treacherous bubble was close to running out of breath, they would be pushed out of the bubble by an invisible watery force.

Now, who were these two cruel demigods? Why, they are Percy Jackson, child of Poseidon, and Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena. Once known as the heroes of Olympus, they are now known as the traitors of Camp Half-blood.

The two smirked as a crowd of young half-bloods yelled at them from outside their dome, begging for forgiveness. They had it coming. Anyone could have seen it from a mile away.

The day before…

The camp was buzzing with excitement. Because of the titan war, most of the camp’s usual fun activities had been canceled, such as capture the flag, to make time to deal with the aftermath. The past few days had been dull, mainly filled with clean-up, and all of the campers had energy they needed to expel because well, let's be honest, having kids, most of them having ADHD, spend hours cleaning monster dust and patching up any wreckage for hours doesn’t really work out well. (The Hephaestus and Ares cabins teamed up to make and plant explosives around the camp instead of doing what they were assigned. Send help.)

It has been decided by Chiron and the camp counselors that the camp deserves to play capture the flag once more and really needs a break before they completely wreck the camp.   This decision had been made days ago. Though the camp had just learned about this today when Percy announced it during breakfast alongside coming out as genderfluid (and also started a food fight after doing so… who thought it was a good idea to put Percy in charge of that?)

As of right now, the head counselors are once again surrounding the ping-pong table as they decide what the teams should be. Percy and Annabeth sat next to each other, holding hands.

“My cabin mates have requested that we have the Hephaestus cabin on our side,” Clarisse shared. The head for the Hephaestus cabin nodded at this with a wicked grin on his face.

“Oh my gods, no,” Katie objected, arms crossed. “I cannot handle another explosion!”

“Who said anything about explosions?”

Annabeth stood up. “The Athena and Poseidon cabin will work together,” She put out.

“Pfft, no honey, I don’t think so,” Drew disagreed. “Percy’s been on your team for all the other games. He should side with us for once.”

“Actually, it’s ‘they’ right now,” corrected Percy. Drew muttered out an apology. “Plus, I want to be on Annabeth’s team. It would be our first capture the flag game together.”

“But you’ve already played together?” Katie said, confused.

“No, they meant together as in as a couple,” clarified Annabeth. The rest of the demigods oh’d.

“Oh, come on Annabeth!” Pollux said. “You two together are unbeatable at this point! This needs to be a fair game!”

“I don’t agree with this,” Annabeth said, crossing her arms.

“Neither do I,” Percy says with a pout.

“Well,” Chiron starts. “Drew and Pollux do appear to have a point.”

“Chiron!” exclaimed Annabeth. Percy tightened their grip around Annabeth’s hand.

“Come on, you lovebirds need to quit it,” Clarisse huffed.

“Wouldn’t it be fun to play against each other?” Will added. The response was more objections given by Annabeth and Percy.

“Come on! We’ll be on separate teams next time!” Percy pleaded.

The other half-bloods smiled.

“Ugh! I can’t believe that they still refused to let us be on the same team,” Percy exclaimed. Flopping onto their bed. The meeting had just ended so Percy and Annabeth were staying at Percy’s cabin until it was time for them to teach lessons to the campers.

“I know right!” Annabeth said. “We were literally so excited and had the best plan to take everyone down!”

“I really wanted to know if it would work.” Percy pouted. Then sat up suddenly. “Wait a minute! I have an idea!”

“Oh?” Annabeth said, intrigued. “Care to share your dumb plan?”

Percy threw a pillow at her face.

“Hey!” Annabeth exclaimed before hitting Percy on the head with the same pillow they threw at her. “I was only joking. Your plans are outside of the box and usually work. I love them. They’re so you.”

Percy smiled. “Okay, so here’s the plan…”

Capture The Flag

Percy waited at the border, leaning against a tree by the river. Sounds of weapons clashing could be heard around them. They counted gods in their head (because really, there were a lot) because they were bored out of their mind.

“Psst, Percy,” A voice whispered. They looked around before finding Annabeth behind a bush. Percy walked over and sat down beside her. The two exchanged papers which held the location of each of their flags before getting up and crossing into the opposing teams’ territory.

It was pretty easy finding Annabeth’s flag, though taking it was more of a challenge. However, the campers were too distracted by Percy dumping water onto them to stop them from taking the flag. Victory for Percy!

The campers on Percy’s “team” cheered until they noticed Percy taking a wrong turn. “Hey, idiot!” Drew yelled. “We’re over here!”

The campers on Annabeth’s “team” had started cheering as well until they realized Annabeth was going the same way as Percy. The two teams watched in confusion. Where were they going? A few other demigods started following them after they realized they were frozen in shock.

The two demigod lovers ran until they reached a secluded clearing in the woods that wasn’t being used for capture the flag and uncovered a throne made of wood. Technically, they weren’t allowed to be here during capture the flag, but were surprisingly able to get godly permission from most of the gods (they seemed entertained by their idea). Of course, the campers didn’t know that.

Percy and Annabeth climbed onto the throne and fit the flags into holes that were designed to hold them. “Looks like we win!” Percy yelled at the first of the campers to arrive.

“That’s not how it works!” One exlaimed. Then they turned to a teamate. “Quick, let’s grab a flag and bring it back to our side!”

A group of half-bloods ran torwards the throne only to find themselves encased in water. Water that was pushing them away from the throne. The demigods stepped back to see that there was now a large watery dome that surrounded Percy and Annabeth, with a small air pocket surrounding the throne keeping it, and the demigods on it, dry.

“Oh my gods!” Clarisse yelled, exasperated by the two’s shenanigans. Despite the fact that no one could reach the center without drowning, she ran in anyways, not making much progress until the water pushed her out.

“Seriously, you two? This is overkill!” Connor yelled, but could not be heard from the demigods within the dome. “Agh! Get rid of this stupid water thing! We’ll let you be on the same team, we promise!”

“No we don’t!” Another camper yelled, sticking out their tounge.

“We were so closed to winning,” A Demeter kid lamented.

“No, we were,” objected a Hephaestus kid, crossing their arms. “Until Annabeth freaking betrayed us.”

“They both found the flags so fast,” Lou Ellen huffed. “I bet they told each other where they were. The traitors.”

Meanwhile, Percy and Annabeth had smug looks on. Pleased to see that their plan was a success.

“We already got both flags,” Percy said, gesturing to said flags. “Shouldn’t the game be over already? We won.”

They turned to look at the mob of demigods outside. Still looking at the demigods, Annabeth replied, “Hmm, well let’s wait until Chiron comes to confirm the win.”

Percy nodded before pulling out a crushed up looking bag of Doritos out of his pocket. “Want one?”

After what seemed like forever , when really it had only been two minutes, Chiron showed up. “Er, what seems to be happening here?” He asked, eyeing the watery dome.

“Percy and Annabeth betrayed their own teams and formed their own,” Will informed him.

Chiron sighed. “I see. Well, I can’t declare a winner since their team isn’t official, this ground isn’t permitted for capture the flag, and none of you have yet to retrieve a flag.”

“Ugh, how do you expect us to get one without drowning?” Clarisse asked. Still sopping wet. She sweared.

“Actually,” A voice behind him said. Many demigods jumped, some pulling out their weapons if they weren’t already drawn. Chiron however, remained calm, turning to see Dionysus who had appeared out of nowhere. “It would seem that Peter Johnson and Annie Cheese have gotten their plan and team approved by many of the Olympians. Their teams are in fact official and they are the rightful winners. Congrats or whatever, I don’t care. Bye.”

Many protests were made by the campers, but Mr. D was already gone. Chiron turned and made eye contact with Percy, gesturing for them to remove the dome, which they did.

“So did we win?” Percy asked, a smirk on their face that matched Annabeth’s

Chiron couldn’t help smiling back at the two. These kids, he nodded his head fondly. “Yes, it appears you did.”

“Yes!” Percy cheered, with Annabeth chuckling right next to them. More protests were made by the campers. “Oh, and I almost forgot!” Water was then dunked all over the head counselors who had wronged them and refused to let Percy and Annabeth be on the same team. “Revenge.”

“Villain origin story,” Mutterered one of the younger demigods to their friend. Their friend nodded absentmindedly.

And from that day one, there was now an official rule that said, if Percy and Annabeth want to be on the same team, let them . After all, they promised to do worse if there ever was a next time. No seriously, they’ve threatened actual murder.

Don't worry, no one died. I think...
