Summary
Rukia hugged her brother tightly, lingering for a moment when he wrapped one arm around her shoulders. “I'll see you Wednesday, Byakuya,” she said when she withdrew.
Byakuya nodded. “Yes, you will,” he assured her. He then turned to Renji, who had gotten out of the car while Rukia was hugging him, and gave the other man a small smile. “It was good to actually have a conversation with you, Renji,” he said genuinely.
“It was,” Renji agreed with a small but bright smile of his own. “I'll see you on Wednesday. Oh, and thank you for dinner…” He turned to Rukia after that, wrapping his friend in a tight hug. “Good to see you too, little gremlin,” he muttered to her.
Rukia huffed, giving her brother as much of a wave as she could, being crushed in Renji’s arms. She didn’t struggle until Byakuya had gone to his own car and driven away, at which point she looked up with an uncharacteristically desperate expression. “Renji… please help Byakuya,” she said softly.
Renji sighed softly and brushed a kiss over her hair before releasing her from the crushing hug. “I want to."
