Work Text:

Sam had been acting more tired than usual this morning, and Max could probably have an idea why.

Last night, Max was woken up by some sudden movement in his bunk bed, which he had been sharing with Sam during that night. Taking a good look, it seemed Sam was leaving the room. What hour was it? 3 a.m? What could possibly be Sam doing at that hour?

Maybe he was filling some unfinished paperwork? Or had he found some cool british cooking show that only aired late at night? Max didn't really care. All of the other options seemed boring to him, and he just wanted to keep sleeping.

Even so, Max was still pretty curious, but still wouldn't leave his bed. He woke up again many times that night, only to check his side and see Sam wasn't sleeping yet. Eh, maybe he would tell him in the morning.

When Max finally got up for his work, he seemed that, yet again, Sam wasn't there. That's weird.
Usually, being that full of energy, Max would always be the first one to wake up in the morning. Either Sam had taken the quickest and most refreshing nap ever, or he never came back after all.

Max left their apartment and went to their office, which was luckily placed in the same floor as the office in their building.

When entering, he found a low-headed Sam on his desk, watching TV. He slowly turns his head to Max after hearing the door opening.

"Morning, little buddy."

"Uh- morning, Sam.

Max made his way to his desk. "Is there anything good on?"

"There's this really good show about four guys embarassing themselves in public and then making one of them go through even more awkard and maybe emotionally scarring experiences."

"Wow, when did they make a show about our lives?"

"Back in the '97, Max."

After looking at Sam for some seconds, Max could get to see some bags that weren't there before. It also seemed Sam wasn't focusing on the screen that much.

"What were you doing last night?"

"Huh..?-"

"You left the room in the middle of the night and never came back! No wonder you look so pathetically exhausted today."

"Oh, that... Sorry for waking you up, the Commissioner asked me to handle some files of past cases."

"How come he didn't tell me?"

"Oh no, I kept it secret myself. You would've grown tired of the work and throw it away or something..."

"...eh, fair. But you can't go work like this! What if there's suddenly an alien or robot attack and you slow me down in battle because of your tiredness! We canNOT let that happen!"

"...Well, Bosco has these energy drinks of dubious origin and composition, I've heard they're really good. Can you bring me a pair? Or five?"

"On it!"

After his quick trip to Bosco's, Max takes home some cans of the beverage.

However, when he opens the door, he finds Sam, still sitting with his arms on the desk, but snoring, softly whimpering and drooling. He seemed to have been sleeping for a while.

This was ridiculous! Max hadn't even taken that long! Well, maybe he would've taken less time if he hadn't been stuck on another one of Bosco's dialogue tree or sneaking into the bathrooms to see if there was anything gross enough to be interesting. But aside that, he didn't take that long.

Max groaned in confusion. Usually, Sam was the one leading all the work in the office while Max walks around pointing at whatever stuff is in front of him.

Max got to the desk to try and wake him up, but then he tought about it better. If he woke him up, he would have to deal with a tired and grumpy Sam for the rest of the day! He wouldn't like that.

But also, what if the Commissioner calls with a good case! That should wake Sam up!

...but, if he stayed asleep a little longer for when that happened, then maybe Max would finally be able to answer the phone for once and handle a case all by himself! That would be great wouldn't it?

Max sat back in his desk, pulling a sheet of paper and about some crayons while time passed by. It had taken some time before the phone actually rang! It was his chance!

"YES! I GOT IT! I GOT IT!"

Max jumped out of his desk and ran to the phone table, not noticing how loud he was.

"HELLO COMISS-" Before continuing, he had noticed the noise he made while getting the phone, but luckily, Sam was still asleep.

"Hello, Comissioner! No, Sam's here, he just fell asleep... I dunno, he stayed up doing some extra work... Well, he didn't tell me! ... I don't know.... Awww...! Alright, love you too.."

Well that's a bummer. The neighborhood's been strangely uneventful today, there's really no one Max could beat up justifiably, so how is he supposed to spend the time today?!

He could just go out there and cause his own havoc, but it was funnier when Sam was there to make a comically long commment about it. He couldn't just shoot stuff from his window either without risking the noise waking up Sam!

...well, he wasn't really that tired, but a nap couldn't hurt. That may help time pass by faster, but nothing in that room was comfy enough to sleep in without causing permanent back issues!

Eh, screw it, he would just sleep with Sam.

Neither of them were really fond of cuddling, but recently, they started to warm up to it and do it more often together, especially in night time. It probably wouldn't bother Sam until he woke up.

Getting close to Sam, he carefully moved his body so it would lay back on the chair. Unluckily, this caused Sam to wake up a little.

"Max? What are you doing?"

"Oh- I just wanna take a quick nap with you. If you don't mind."

"..sure." Sam shrugs and goes back to sleep with a smile.

Then, Max climbs to get on top of him, where he proceeded to get comfortable, laying on his belly and putting his arms around his shoulders.

Max's face was pretty close to Sam's, so he got to see his sleeping dog face. It was cute. All of a sudden, Sam seemed to move, but he just wrapped Max around his arms. It startled him, but Max didn't mind at all.

After some time, he started to feel more drowsy and relaxed, ready to close his eyes and let time go by without him noticing.

He probably should get to think some names to call Sam when he wakes up and asks Max why they were cuddling together before sleep takes him fully.

Whatever, he'll make something up later.
