Work Text:
Mornings are always the hardest time for Kakucho.
Being in a criminal group had messed up this methodical routines and sleep schedule. Add to the fact he was one of the sane ones in Bonten left him in charge most off the time. And while he wore his position with guilt pride on most of days, it can be quite tiring.
Especially his additional duty as a caretaker.
Not that he didn’t mind, his charge was breath of fresh air to the violent life he chose.
The scarred man knocks the door once before opening the door.
“Takemichi?” Kakucho looked towards the bed only to find it empty before letting out a tired sigh.
“Please tell me we’re not playing hide and seek this early”
A stifled giggle reached his ear was his answer.
Bonten’s no. 3 should had expected this really. Takemichi often got in trouble and likes to mess with the executives. He was at that age were he would be mischievous after all. One time he was caught using one of the kitchen knives trying to make lunch for the excutives or another instance he was found near the balcony ledge because he wanted to feel the wind against his skin, “as if he was flying like a superhero!” the child explained. The amount of stress he felt those days were unsurmountable. There’s a reason why Mikey ordered to child-proof the whole apartment. Takemichi was stubborn and troublesome as he could get.
With one good eye, he searches the room before finding a curled figured behind the curtains by the windows. Wasting no time, Kakucho set the curtains to sides and revealing a small child with the softest black hair and doe eyes.
“Kaku-chan! You found me!”
Kakucho smiled.
“I always do. Now let’s get something to eat”
The child giggles as Kakucho proceeds to pick him up and made their way to the dining room.
Thankfully, only a few subordinates and none of the other executives was at the apartment, so he and Takemichi would a somewhat peaceful breakfast today (whenever they’re at the apartment, chaos always follows them or create problems, especially the Haitanis and Sanzu) . Small mercies he guess.
As the seated the child on his chair, Kakucho begins to set the table for two. When he was done bringing their meals, a loud “hump” reach Kakucho’s ears.
“You never let me do anything around here”
The scarred man looks over his charge who was adorably pouting.
“That’s because you always get in trouble, remember last time you mistaken Sanzu’s pills as candies, even when we reminded you not to”
Well to be fair, it more on Sanzu’s fault than Takemichi’s, but only Takemichi would swallow hard pills thinking it was new candies when he has an entire stash of sweets by the kitchen counters.
Kakucho could still see his charge upset though and wanted to make up to him. He deserves it at least for his good behavior recently.
“How about we make a deal?”
Big blue eyes peeked in curiosity.
“A deal?”
“Yeah, if you promise to continue to behave and not cause trouble, I’ll ask Mikey if he can let you play outside”
Suddenly they were more lights in those eyes.
“You’ll really do that?” the boy muttered, looked as if he was afraid Kakucho would take his word back.
He responded with ruffling the boys hair and giving him a smile.
“Of course, now why don’t finish you’re food first then we watch your favorite show. I’ll talk to Mikey when he gets back”
The boys eyes shine with unshed tears, unable to keep his happiness hidden. It only made Kakucho more fond over the boy, as he always wore his heart on his sleeves. He wanted to protect this pure innocence and warmth as long as he can. Wanted to maintain this peace morning with his favorite cape-wearing boy.
He wanted to keep seeing this boy happy……..
Even if he had to lie to make it happen.
If Yugi Amane had any more humanity or sympathy left, he would had felt more sorry to this situation.
As a subordinate of the most infamous criminal group in Japan, he had seen his fair share of messed up shit over the years. So witnessing someone being kidnapped and taken away from their family and friends was nothing new to him. But to be imprisoned against your will to keep the most deranged and dangerous criminals sane was another layer of hell.
As Yugi watch the pair by the couch, he felt the smallest amount of pity.
He watched how his superior treated and saw the blue eyed man as nothing more than a child (a desperate attempt to keep the image of Hanagaki Takemichi pure and carefree).
He watched one of the strongest man in the organization crumble his remaining sanity he held for so long.
All because Kakucho Hitto couldn’t bear the fact that his beloved hero tried to end his life on multiple times.
Truly, Hanagaki Takemichi was in hell of his own creation because he couldn’t stop caring.
