Work Text:
Meryl’s manicure kit was spread across the dashboard by the time Roberto reached the door to the plant station. Refueling was the only chance to fix her nails without him complaining about the smell, and the only scrap of alone time she got on this assignment. She forgot all about her second passenger until he piped up from the backseat.
“Why aren’t you adding color?”
Meryl rolled her eyes at Vash’s question and launched into her boilerplate lecture for those who deigned to question her ritual.
“For your information sir, there are two reasons. First, colored polish looks trashy when it cracks and fl - hey!” Her lecture derailed when Vash grabbed the hand she was painting. “Those are still wet!”
“I’ll be careful.” Vash lifted her hand into the sun to examine her work with a look of genuine interest. “What’s the second reason?”
“I…uh…” Meryl hesitated, feeling like the pretentious co-ed Roberto accused her of being. “I like the natural color of my nails,” she admitted, snatching her hand back when Vash chuckled.
“Yeah? So do I.”
