Neteyam was leaning against the entrance of the marui with his arms folded, watching everything in silence, while Kiri held Tuk so that the girl wouldn't get in. Tuk usually tried to defend Lo'ak when he was scolded, especially since she found out he was having a baby. - chpt 8

Lo'ak obeyed the punishment. After their big argument that ended with Lo'ak sleeping away from his family and listening to his mother sob as quietly as she could during the night. His own eyes were a bit swollen the next day and the tiredness he felt was unusual, but he assumed it was from last night and it still didn't make him feel any better.

Seeing his mother try to talk to him but fail hurt Lo'ak. His siblings tried to follow their usual routine, but the tension made it impossible for them to even pretend. Tuk was quite shy to approach him and Lo'ak wanted to cry every time he looked into his little sister's eyes with fear. A few weeks ago they got along quite well, spending much of the day together lying on the floor playing meaningless games and now Tuk didn't even turn to look at him.

Lo'ak chuckled. “Tell me. Tuk broke a lot of my toys.” He didn't know why, but engaging in a conversation with Ao'nung no longer seemed like a threat. At least they weren't bumping and rolling across the sand. It was nice.

Ao'nung smiled and nodded. “That's what they do. I can't believe I'll have another little sibling. It will be chaos.” -chpt 8

“Teyam, please.” Lo'ak pleaded without taking his eyes off his brother. Neteyam had previously confessed that his eyes were hard to ignore, especially if he begged, so Lo'ak had to make use of that gift. His father had said that he had deer eyes, he didn't know what that was, but he was going to believe him.

“Why did you let him do tsaheylu with that monster?” Ronal circled Lo'ak to look for any injuries that might have been inflicted by Payakan, but she saw nothing.

A shaky breath escaped his lips as he caressed Lo'ak's cheek. As he could, he wanted to enjoy that moment, to be close to his son without the need to be yelling at each other all the time, although it couldn't be compared to feeling close to his son as they were when Lo'ak was younger. When that boy was so rebellious and naughty he used to chase him wherever and he would climb on his body like a little monkey. He didn't know when all that changed and it became whatever it was now.

Jake felt crazy as the days went by watching his relationship with one of his sons wither away. See how the trust they had before ceased to exist at some point in their lives and now having secrets was normal. Helplessly, his gaze traveled to Lo'ak's covered belly and that uncomfortable feeling in the pit of his stomach returned and he lifted his hand from Lo'ak's cheek.

He felt his days were brighter and seeing him grow every day, seeing how he recognized him and gave him the biggest smiles was what kept him going. Seeing Lo'ak choose him from a very young age made his heart flutter, because Neteyam was always more Neytiri's than Jake's. It was the first baby and Neytiri spent day and night with Neteyam, neither wanted to get away from the other and Jake accepted it, but once Lo'ak was born and Lo'ak realized his father's existence, he never got away from him again. Jake had him in his arms all day, he took him wherever he was and people just warmed with the sight. - chpt 9

“It didn't bleed a lot.” Lo'ak felt a lump in his throat and turned his gaze from his father to the ceiling. “It healed fast.”
It wasn’t true. It bled so much that Lo'ak wanted to bleed to death.
“Really? It just doesn’t look like it.”
“Yes. It healed so fast that I didn't realize.”
Lie. Lo'ak counted the days for it to heal.

“Quaritch?” Neteyam asked without waiting for Lo’ak to start. “He is – he is the father, right?” - 10 - SO DOES FUCKING JAKE

“That's not the deal we made.” Jake looked back again, wishing that Neytiri would leave there with the children.

“But it's a fair one. He belongs to me.”

“No!” Jake growled loudly, baring his fangs. “My son is not your property! I won't let you put your dirty fucking hands on my son!”

“Too late, don't you think?” Quaritch smirked. Jake hissed. “It's him or your whole family. You choose.”

    “I won’t.”

“I never stop and you know it. I came back from death because I have a purpose.” Quaritch hissed. “But possessing your son is my new purpose.”
