Chapter Text

It's been three years since we met. Three years since Red attempted to invade our lives. I recommended Zim to a therapist, and it's actually been helping! Talking about feelings has never been their forté, but they manage. I have a prosthetic arm, and my relationship with my family has never been better. My dad even gave Zim a journal to write in! Gaz teases that it's something called a "diary," but I don't really care what it's called, it's cool that they have that! They even got to decorate it with their own stickers and stamps! "Zim! Dad says dinner's ready if you wanna have some with us!" I hear Gaz call Zim.

Zim also found out that they're genderfluid, they don't feel like any particular gender today. Zim comes down in an adorable dress and sits at the table and begins eating their portion of dinner. It's their favorite, vegetarian dumplings. They've adapted well to most human foods, but meat is still disgusting to them, so they've decided to be a vegetarian instead. "So, Zim, how are we doing this evening?" Dad asks, and Zim beams. "Oh, just wonderful! I love writing in that journal you gave me, Professor!" He laughs. "Please, you can just call me Membrane."

"I have an even better night waiting for you, Zim. We're gonna go out on a date tonight!" Gaz oos at my claim. "Ooh, how forward. You're lucky, Zim. If only a cute girl could treat me like that." I laugh. "Ask Tak to take you out or something, you could always ask a girl out instead of waiting." She rolls her eyes. "Ehhh, Tak's pretty, but she's not my type. I'm not a xenophile, unlike a certain someone I know. Besides, it's hard to ask someone out when you still have your dick but other people only like vaginas." Dad physically cringes. "You can talk about your issues with being trans, but please don't talk about your genitals at the dinner table." She laughs and goes over to hug dad. "Love you too, daddio."

Zim clears their throat and changes the topic. "Where are you taking me tonight, Dib?" I smile. "The observatory! I promise, this date will be completely different from our other observatory dates?" Zim rolls their eyes playfully. "Again? Alright, but it better have something special going for me!" Oh, you'll get something special alright. "Are you almost done? I can hardly wait!" Zim jumps up and down, stimming happily with their antennae. "Yep, I'm done. You?" They nod and go to clean off our empty plates. "Come on, Dib-love! I'm excited, I'm excited!" I laugh and hold their hand, leading the way out the door. "Alright sweetheart, I'm coming. Be right back dad, bye Gaz!" They both give me a thumbs up for good luck, they know I need it right now. They know exactly what I have planned for Zim.

The car ride to the observatory was quiet, but peaceful and nice. However, we're here now and I'm anxiously excited. "Let's go! I want to see the tiny planet again today, they're filled with such cute little creatures Zim can CRUSH!" I hold their hand tightly, my palms sweaty. "Actually, we're seeing a huge moon tonight. And I mean HUGE! It's practically its own planet." They roll their eyes. "A big moon? Really? That's what you have planned for me?" Uh oh, quick Dib, rope them back in! "It's special, I promise! You trust me, don't you?" Zim sighs and nods. "Yes, I trust you, my human." Great! I practically drag Zim into the abandoned observatory and go to the big telescope. "Go ahead! You might have to search for it a little." Zim peeks an eye through and sticks their tongue out, how adorable.

"Where is it? How do I know I'm looking at the right moon?" They ask, getting impatient as they tap their foot. "You'll know when you see it, promise." After another few seconds of searching, they finally find it with a gasp. "Did you find it?" They step back, hands cupping their mouth. I look through the telescope and look at what I commissioned Tak and Skoodge to do for me. Good, it's correct. I turn around at a shocked Zim, and I get down on a knee. "I know it hasn't been that long, but I've taken a lot of consideration, and talked to a lot of people about it. And…I think I'm ready to pop the question. I know that the moon already asked for me, but, Zim," I open up a ring box. "Will you marry me?"

I'm tackled to the ground by Zim, their antennae tangling in my hair. "Yes, yes, of course yes!" We've talked about it before, I wanted Zim to know what marriage even was before asking, but I've been too afraid to ask up until now. But now…everything's changed. "I love you so much, Zim." My voice breaks as I start to tear up. Then I see Zim, who's full-blown sobbing their eyes out. "I love you, Dib! I love you so much, my Dib!" We just lie there and nuzzle each other for a while, until Zim decides the floor is too dirty and finally gets up. Understandable.

"Let's go home now." They nod and wipe their eyes, exhausted from crying. I hold their hand and we get back into the car. Yeah, everything's gonna be okay from here on out. I have my wonderful fiancé now, and my family is gonna welcome them with open arms. Everything's gonna be good. I love this alien with all my heart, and I couldn't be happier to have them in my life. "I love you, Zim." Zim smiles and looks up at me. "I love you too, Dib."
