Chapter Text
"Does anyone have any questions before we begin?" Lavender asked the class. She looked at the fascinated faces before pointing to a Slytherin girl with long black hair.
"Is it true that you killed Fenrir Greyback?" She asked. Teddy snickered.
"Yeah she did! She has his canine tooth too!" They grinned excitedly.
"Can we see?" One student, a Gryffindor, went wide eyed. He leaned forward in his seat as Lavender sighed and walked back to her desk. She pulled out her osseomancy bones and spilled them on the desk, taking the tooth out. She raised it up for the class to see before the whispering began. It was the same every year. She gave the third years some time to process the information before she cleared her throat.
"Alright, everyone. Let's get back on topic for the lesson. I want to begin with going over the basics of divination. Can-" As Lavender finally got them all back on track, a knock at the door could be heard. Lavender could smell Minerva from the other side. Lavender sat down with a sigh and set about clearing up the bones. "Come in, Minerva."
"That never fails to throw me off." Minerva smiled as she entered the room. "Could I please borrow Mx Lupin-Black and miss Sayce?"
"We didn't do it!" Rhian and Teddy immediately sat up straight with a panicked look.
"I never said that you did." Minerva looked shocked. "But should I be concerned?"
"Maybe avoid Nana's office." Teddy pulled a face. A few students snickered. Lavender had to cover her mouth to stop herself from laughing. Teddy and Rhian stood up and followed Minerva out the door. Lavender grinned at Teddy.
"You're in trouble." She said to them in a sing song voice. Teddy glared at her as Minerva shut the door. Lavender put the bones back in her desk before looking at the class. "Now, as I was saying."
Lavender walked into the staffroom to see Poppy covered head to toe in glitter. Remus and Sirius were desperately trying not to laugh into their cups of coffee.
"Trying out a new look, Poppy? I have to say, it suits you. Very chic." Lavender grinned and hopped onto the counter.
"That little shit you call a sibling is spending too much time with the Weasley twins." Poppy grumbled.
"Or maybe someone needs to stop telling them stories about what their fathers got up to." Minerva glared at Filius who didn't even bother to disguise his laughter.
"Hey, we never pranked Poppy." Sirius said.
"Yeah, she's the one that gave us ideas. You don't bite the hand that feeds you." Remus smirked at Poppy. She held her middle finger up to him.
"Anyways, how's your first day of the year been so far, love?" Sirius asked her with a smile.
"Chaotic. It's been fun though." Lavender reached for a mug behind her and poured herself some coffee.
"And any updates on the great grandchildren front?" Minerva asked hopefully. Poppy gave her a quick whack to the torso, leaving a glittery handprint in her wake.
"No luck this month." Lavender frowned. Parvati and Lavender had been trying for almost four months. "I was sure of it this time. I've been having dreams about rabbits again."
"Rabbits?" Filius poked his head up from the other side of the couch.
"Rabbits are fertility symbols. She first started having dreams of rabbits when everything was balls to the wall with Greyback." Remus answered him. Filius nodded and settled himself back down over the daily prophet.
"It'll happen for you eventually, sweetheart. Sometimes it just takes time." Poppy smiled gently at her. She knew that better than anyone. And in the end, Poppy had gotten what she wanted even if it wasn't in the way she expected.
"I know. It's just a little frustrating, I guess." She shrugged. The bell rang, signifying the start of the afternoon lessons. Remus, Sirius and Filius all filed out. Poppy and Minerva turned to her once again.
"So how do you know that it didn't work this time?" Poppy asked.
"I got my period." Lavender cringed as those words came out of her mouth. She didn't know why. They both knew all about this stuff.
"Heavy or light?" Minerva suddenly looked very intrigued.
"Pretty light. Why?" Lavender raised an eyebrow.
"Have you done a test yet?" Poppy stood up and stepped towards Lavender.
"I thought that the bleeding was enough to confirm it." Lavender was now thoroughly confused. Minerva glanced at the coffee mug.
"I notice that you haven't touched your coffee yet." Minerva smirked a little. Lavender rolled her eyes and took a sip before pulling a face.
"Gross. Did Horace make this?" She put the mug down next to her as Minerva and Poppy grinned at each other.
"Horace hasn't been in the staffroom all day, dear." Minerva said.
"And you're coming with me." Poppy grabbed her hand and pulled her from the counter.
When Lavender was seated in Poppy's office, the matron rushed around, searching through cupboards. She finally let out a satisfied hum as she walked towards Lavender with a vial full of a familiar blue liquid. Lavender sighed and held up her finger as she felt a needle digging into the skin. Poppy squeezed it and allowed a droplet to fall into the vial. Lavender watched as it turned a murky brown colour. Poppy held it up to the light, facing away from Lavender. She tried to peer over her shoulder.
"By the look of it, you're experiencing something called implantation bleeding." Poppy turned around with a smile. The potion was now bright pink.
"Does that mean what I think it means?" Lavender went wide eyed as her hands drifted to her stomach.
"Yes." Poppy placed the potion down and pulled Lavender into a hug. Lavender hugged her back, still feeling shocked. "Do you have any more classes today?"
"I…no. I don't think so." Lavender sat back as Poppy took a seat opposite her.
"Then I suggest that you go tell Parvati the good news." Poppy reached for her hand and gave it a squeeze. Lavender nodded and shot out of her chair.
She ran as quick as she could to the teashop, not even stopping to catch her breath. As she opened the door, Parvati looked up at her with a concerned look as Lavender rushed behind the counter. She had practically dived at Parvati, wrapping her legs around her waist as Parvati grabbed hold of her legs to support her.
"Aren't you supposed to be in work?" Parvati asked after she had gotten over the shock of having her partner dive on her.
"Poppy told me to come find you and tell you the good news." Lavender peppered soft kisses all over Parvati's face.
"What good news?" Parvati gently set her down but kept her arms around her waist.
"I didn't have my period. I had implantation bleeding." Lavender grinned as her eyes began to water, watching the realisation dawn on Parvati. "I'm pregnant."
