This quartet of deadly assassins were raised and trained under the watchful eyes of the organization since early infancy to become the perfect murder weapon. So none of them ever knew what the world beyond the control of the organization had in store for them or had anyone to call ‘family’. That is until the incident which fanned the already present sparks of rebellion within Valerie’s heart, creating the wildest flame that consumed and destroyed everything in its wake.
The death of someone she grew to care for, Melia, triggered the rapid downfall of the organization which happened within a single night. Valerie had executed every mindless agent and murdered those that controlled them in cold blood. She put bullets and knives through the heads of those without enhancements while she took extra time to decapitate and gouge out the hearts of the ones with parasitic entities squirming inside of them.
Cynthia, who was used as an assistant scientist and researcher in the organization’s labs rather than assassination agent due to her high intelligence, had been aware of the organization’s brainwashing and lies from early on. She helped Valerie in achieving the destruction of the entire base of operations and set blazes to the many corpses that littered the hallways and blood-stained rooms.
This lab-bound agent had been allowed to live through the nightmares that haunted the organization’s husk because she kept contact with Valerie by using a few secret methods through the years and was the one who urged Valerie to explore more of the world before returning from her missions.
One could say that it was because of Cynthia’s curiosity to learn more of the things outside of the lab’s white walls that helped to plant those seeds of doubt and awakening awareness within Valerie. She was also the one who revealed to Valerie that they were half sisters after finding evidence of it written on the papers that held their medical and biological information. It was the crucial information of them being related by blood that made Valerie open her eyes.
The survival of Ageha and Carmine came to be, because the two of them were already close to Valerie’s heart and also mourned the death of their sunshine, Melia. Seeing as they already showed signs of awareness and dislike for their way of living, Valerie saw no reason to kill them like she did with the others and instead extended her hand to them. The four of them escaped successfully and vacated the area to burn everything to the ground.
They stayed close to make sure nothing was left, sweeping the grounds for any evidence or survivors for a solid month. The four departed the area afterwards and spent their first five years of being free from the organization, living in seclusion and used that time to forge non-severable bonds with one another.
Which is why Valerie, who was both inexperienced and the one that they naturally looked to for guidance, insisted for Cynthia, Ageha and Carmine to call each other sisters. Becoming a family of four sisters who learnt how to survive in a world with their unique skill sets. Beyond that, each of them decided on their chosen paths to walk on and started their personal journeys to obtain new knowledge and skills that they desired.
The quartet of sisters promised to keep in contact by exchanging letters and always telling each other where they are going. Sometimes they would end up in the same place, living together in the same home before moving on towards their next destination. Through their travels, Valerie did not have a particular idea on what she desired but she did agree to travel with Cynthia to search for their parents.
First, they found the deadbeat father they shared and uncovered his sins. With the information of him being their mothers’ murderer and the one who sold them for a little extra money to gamble away, the half-sisters tortured and killed him without sparing any mercy. Once they made sure he was dead for good, the pair of half-sisters went their separate ways, deciding to take on their mothers’ family names instead of his.
After Cynthia tracked down her mother’s grave, finding it uncared for and covered in moss, she gave up entirely on searching for any of her remaining family members and went on to study medicine. The only thing she took with her from that long search was her mother’s surname. On the other hand, Valerie discovered the location of the elderly woman that was her grandmother and she realized that she was looking for her family in the wrong place.
While she did find her lonesome grandmother and learnt more about her late mother, picture framed and placed on the mantle, Valerie instantly knew that this wasn’t her family and that she already had one waiting for a reunion. So she did not bat an eye or feel any tugs on her heartstrings when she walked away from that cozy cottage home and back into the world of travels.
Valerie then traveled far and wide, in search of a place where she could be happy living there with her three sisters. Along her travels, she attained jobs at diners and restaurants. Slowly working her way up from a lowly dishwasher to being a simple cook and then acknowledged chef. Then on a stop in Britain, she met up with Cynthia and Ageha, and was forced to learn how to prepare human meat as their curiosity got the better of them.
The trio used more time than they should have invested into creating dishes with the forbidden flesh as even Carmine had come by from the far north and stayed for some months to test out the taboo dishes. The youngest of the four arrived with much to teach her sisters over the course of her stay. Everyone ended up learning the multitude of languages that their well-traveled sister had to offer.
When Valerie and Carmine left the two studious sisters’ home to continue their travels, the latter finally decided it was about time she went searching for her roots like how her older siblings did. She eventually found that she was an orphan at birth because her father died in a war and her mother passed away giving birth to her. But instead of getting brought to an orphanage, she was taken away by the organization that was always on the hunt for newborns they would steal.
After understanding how her parents were by no means at any fault with how they left this world, Carmine sought the people who knew of her family and discovered that her father was a skilled hunter that specialized in hunting large game. Seeing as that was the only thing she could ever uncover about her blood family, she became a hunter. However, she didn’t hunt the kind of animals that her father did, instead she hunted those dwelling in the dark underbelly of society.
The youngest’s travels took her to many places, but she ended up spending most of her time in the north east. Over there she made herself known and carved her own place among the sharks of the underworld. Her ruthlessness earned her infamy but it also gave her a long list of enemies that wanted her head. Through many underhanded tactics and frontal assaults, she put the fools beneath her feet and sank them to the bottom of the ocean. There’s no mercy for the wicked.
Ageha's family lived in poverty and she was taken from them to repay their debts. When she went searching for her blood parents or extended family, she found out that they had many more kids besides her and have grown old enough to become grandparents. She also realized that this family had no room for her, not that she wanted to be a part of it, and silently left the area to resume her studies in fashion alongside Cynthia who moved to France to pursue another bachelor's degree.
Although Ageha walked away from her birth parents that easily, the image she witnessed still affected her. Making her feel as though those around her can be happy even without her existence. It turned her into someone that's very detached from things but extremely clingy and stalker-ish towards the people she cares for. The shift in behavior caused worry for her sisters, especially Valerie, as they all thought that Ageha might be harboring a different kind of affection for them.
However it was proven later that Ageha was simply someone that was overly affectionate and expressed her care towards others in extreme ways. She often got into trouble for it with Carmine so the two have the most intense sibling rivalry amongst the quartet. Carmine's hotheadedness made it easy for Ageha to push her buttons but Carmine always found a way to repay the noirette for her pranks and mischief.
