AITA for going after a taken man just because his girlfriend is annoyingly jealous of me?
So, I (M19) have known AT (M22) my whole life, but we don’t really talk (or get along really) because we have a very complicated childhood history, which developed into a bit of a rivalry. Still, our families are super super super close, we studied at the same school our whole lives, and now go to the same university, though in diferent courses. All that to say, we always end up seeing each other, be it back in our hometown, in family dinners or out and about on campus.
The problem started because he is dating this girl FB (F19?), whom i share some classes with. She too is someone we both have known since we’re kids, but her and I were never close. Apparently she thinks that the whole rivalry thing is homoerotic or something like that and thinks he spends too much time thinking of me. I have never thought of him that way, but we were best friends when we were kids, before it all went to shit, so maybe it’s because of that?
Either way, she keeps making snide remarks during the classes we share, like talking super loud with her friends where i can hear, bragging about how he says she is the prettiest girl ever, how anyone would be so jealous of her, how cute he is with his dog, how well he fucks her, how big his dick is, how they are going to get married after college, and so on. It’s all she talks about all the time.
In family reaunions or similar, if i come in the room they are in, she drapes herself all over her boytoy, and has even on occasion started making out with him, with his whole family right there. Her friend who studies with my sister said she constantly talks shit about me. One time on a frat party she even spilled her drink on my shirt. Let it be known that never did anything to this girl, we barely exchanged 5 words in our whole lives, but she deluded herself into believing i want her man.
But the fact is: she literally cannot stop gloating about her perfect relationship, and perfect boyfriend, and how all of us plebeians (and me specifically) must be dying to steal him from her. Well, after weeks of this, i guess i DO want to steal him, just so she can shut up.
Thing is, he and I do NOT get along. Everytime we have been forced to spend time together so far it has always ended up in traded insults, screaming matches, and even in a physical fight when i was 14 after he “lost control of his dog” and mine got hurt. He is a gigantic asshole with no redeeming qualities (besides being hot, i guess).
But i spent the last month hearing all good things about his guy, and it made me genuinely want to get to know this other side of him (and he is hot!!!). I am also pretty sure that if i do flirt with him I will be successful, but i admit that at least 50% of my reasoning for going after him is petty reveng against his annoying girlfriend, so AITA?
Edit: our complicated childhood history is that we got got into a stupid fight when we were kids, together with my older brother and sisters and i accidentally gouged out his eye, so it kinda makes sense why we didn’t get along.
Edit2: the fight started bc he stole an ancient family heirloom during my sisters’ mother’s funeral, so we confronted him, he tried to smash a rock in my brother’s head, so i attacked him (he broke my nose too!). Afterwards, his mom tried to take my eye in revenge but my mom stopped her.
Edit3: yes we both know each other’s family pretty well, mostly bc it’s the same family haha, he is my half-uncle.
Edit4: we are dating now and FB was right, he does have a big dick and he does know how to use it!
