There aren't any self help books about navigating a intermortal relationship while being surrounded by chaotic idiots

Summary:

Having a boyfriend on a different astral field is not too dissimilar from a long distance relationship.

Work Text:

Having a boyfriend on a different astral field is not too dissimilar from a long distance relationship. Aizawa learnt this early into his romance with Hizashi.

Currently, Hitoshi was crushing Aizawa, slowly but surely melding him into singularity with the fabric of the sofa. He had been parked atop of him for the better part of an hour; originally it was so Izuku could do something fiendish without obstacle - though when had Aizawa ever even attempted to dissuade Izuku from doing what he was going to do, it was like trying to drive a car with faulty steering around a circular track - but they fell asleep soon after so now he was stuck like this. At various points Hizashi had pointed out that Hitoshi could be moved, but it hardly seemed fair to only apply cat rules to one of his sons, just because they could turn into a cat, so he wasn't allowed to move the slumbering body compressing his organs.

Aizawa wondered idly where Hizashi was. He could be next to him, or in the other room, or stalking an old colleague. Some part of him wished to hear the phantom snore of a flesh and blood Hizashi permeate through the walls as his quirk slipped while his mind was occupied with fantasy scenarios. It was the same part that got frustrated when he ran out of energy and couldn't interact with the mortal world, sometimes even sinking through the bed they were attempting to cuddle on.

He was completely aware of how unfair this was on Hizashi. It's not like he chose to die. From what had been spilled through late night whispers and nightmare murmurings, his demise had neither been consensual or peaceful. Hearing a choked cry for help and the sounds of someone he cared for deeply pierce the night air on the worst days was never going to leave Aizawa's consciousness.

It was a startling realisation to have.

An addition to the family only really solidified it.

Izuku came home with a tiny kitten under his arm, cooing and licking its oil slicked fur. He proudly declared the animal to be Box. Box was a stray cat, found in a box, that Izuku assured him was a plain stray cat, no it wasn't a child, it was just a cat. And it was on these grounds, and the fact Box looked truly pathetic and tiny even in Izuku's small hands, that she was allowed to stay.

Of course, he walked in after patrol one night to Box flying through the sitting room with tiny hummingbird wings. By then it was too late to kick the parasite out, it had already gotten under his skin. So he was forced to eat his jelly packet and, Izuku's newest creation, an all red bento that looked like a mouse carcass being dissected, underneath the constant hum of weak feathery wings desperately trying to catch air. At some point a red feather joined Box, though that's when Aizawa put down the half finished beetroot mound and went to the bed.

It was this unfortunate event that led a keyboard smash to be sent to the group chat of the few UA graduates Aizawa tolerated. Thinking he had had another heart attack from caffeine intake or stress, they promptly broke the door down and got a faceful of vicious kitty claws from two startled cats.

Tensei and Nemuri had both pestered him about meeting his 'mysterious lover boy' so it was a sort of karmic justice. But they did get to meet Hitoshi, Izuku and Box, which was less good.

Aizawa couldn't get them out of the flat quick enough.

There wasn't anything he could do to rein in the chaos demons that his children had become.

Apparently, and this news was delivered by a strangely excited rodent creature, Izuku had tested out of middle school completely and was going to become his own personal student.

Initalilly Hitoshi was terrified of facing a new school by themself, despite the assurance it had been vetted and scoured until the concrete cracked. Both Aizawa and Hizashi had braced for the worst, preparing enraged and comforting parental faces and hot chocolate for when they came home, only for Hitoshi to come back with a huge grin. He went on a muttering-adjacent rant about one of the girls in his class, Jirou, whose quirk had something to do with sound waves, and how he had managed to eat a bowl of really disgusting noodles because she had an impromptu screamo concert in the canteen.

It seemed that Hawks, or Keigo, had the same idea. He showed up later that night with a custom Hawks brand sleeping bag and an absurd explanation that Touya had kicked him out for the night over an argument on pickle and crisp sandwiches. Given that he then spent most of the night teaching Hitoshi how to effectively style their hair into gravity defying styles, the thinly veiled excuse worked.

Honestly, it was appreciated. With Izuku away at Nedzu's lab, and Keigo keeping Hitoshi in questionable company, he was able to sleep soundly. The only real query was when Keigo and Hitoshi became close given they had only met in passing.

The night was blissful. Serene, quiet, with the comforting chill of Hizashi's snoozing energy beside him, and the fuzzy lining of the sleeping bag wrapping him in a cosy embrace.

Aizawa woke up the next morning refreshed, damn near energetic. He smiled at himself in the mirror as he brushed his teeth, and even picked out an outfit that that included his favourite cat shirt - a hideous orange one with an aged scowl and the words fuck you too in english printed in comic sans.

He stepped into the main room, ready to face the day.

A soothing melody of peaceful snoring met him. Aside from that it was quiet. And then Aizawa looked at their prone bodies, splayed across the floor, blankets askew, Izuku's head shoved underneath the pillow that Hitoshi was using, which seemed to be stolen from Keigo who was using the metal frame of the hob and a kitchen towel to replace it. Black and green ink was scrawled over every available inch of skin, and in turn had smeared across the carpeted floors.

Energy sapped from his body in such a fast motion that it felt like his organs had been vacuumed out of his arse.

Aizawa sighed. And stepped over them to make coffee.
