Chapter Text
Rain isn’t sure what exactly he and Sky are doing here, one of the places they swore to avoid. Standing there just gave him chills, and looking at Sky’s face, he was not the only one. They needed to do this though. They both did, thoughts of the worst possible scenarios has been plaguing them both, and they finally gathered the courage to act.
They could do this, yeah, they could definitely sneak into one of the most dangerous races, steal the phones of their respective exes while they were racing, and leave with no problem.
No sweat
Right?
Rain takes a deep breath, its not like they have much of a choice, they HAVE to do this, they have those pictures. He refused to think about it. They need them gone, and the races provide a good environment for their phones to conveniently disappear. Mass people, Loud noise, and full of thugs, the perfect cover for their mission.
All they have to do is blend in, look like they belong, be invisible. This isn’t their first race, they’ve been here enough times to be able to fool themselves that they can pull it off. Rain shudders to think of the consequences of failure, not when reminders are littered in his mind and creeping towards the forefront of his memory.
“Ready?” Sky asks, breaking him from his musing. His face turns hard involuntarily, focusing on the task before them.
“As I will ever be” He replies.
The two of them join a group walking in, they keep their heads down, black hoodies up, hoping that the vagueness of their appearance, and the fact that they have been here multiples will cause the guards to not look at them twice.
It works, they get in without a problem, no second glances. Now for the real task, avoiding absolutely anyone who could recognise them and blow their cover. With their heads down and exuding fake confidence, Sky leads Rain towards their former spot, maneuvering through the crowd of people until their target gets within range. They knew where they kept their phones, hidden under the jacketson their usual seats. They were lucky the space was empty, abandoned by their entourage who went to cheer for the two of them from the front lines.
Quickly both of them ducked their hands under the jackets in search of the phones, Immediately Sky felt the cold metallic feel he grabbed it, turning to see if Rain was also successful. A subtle nod from Rain, and relief pooled in his body in waves.
Just as they were turning to leave, Rain’s hand in his, they heard a loud laugh sending a chill straight to his bones. They were here, they were back. Sky knew he should move, run or at least do something but he was stuck. He could also feel Rain freeze next to him.
Move Sky, c’mon move goddamit. Please… but yet again his body failed to listen to his plea.
“Hey you! What are you doing there?!” the familiar voice echoed in their direction, he made the mistake of turning his head to the sound of his voice locking eyes with him. Gun was fuming, and fast approaching. Sky couldn’t process what happened next, all he knew was Rain was pulling him away and running. He pushed his thoughts away, feelings of self preservation kicked in and he ran too.
They were chasing them down, calling for them to stop while muttering curses. Maneuvering through the crowd holding on to Rain was difficult, they kept shoving into people and that was slowing both of them down and was going to get them both caught, the best thing to do was split up.
With that thought he dropped Rain’s hand and took the next turn, hoping and praying that Rain would be alright.
Sky, too busy checking behind him to see if they were still following him, didn’t realize until he bumped into a hard chest, bracing himself for the inevitable fall, strong arms grabbed his, panic filled his chest.
No no no, did they get to me?, is this it? I really hope Rain was able to get away, was–
“Hey, are you alright?” he heard an unfamiliar voice ask softly.
He slowly opened his eyes to look at the man in front of him. He was tall, well taller than him at least, in a black and white racing jacket looking at him with…concern? The man didn’t look familiar. Sky doubted he was part of the posse. His train of thought was interrupted when he heard footsteps from afar.
“Where did he go?” He heard one of them shout. Quickly he released himself from the arms of the stranger to hide behind one of the trucks, hoping at least the stranger would mind his business and not sell him out. As they got closer, he made himself small, attempting to blend with the darkness.
“Hello Prapai, sorry to bother you but have you seen anyone pass here, dressed in all black with a hoodie on?” he heard one of them ask, Sky assumed he had to be talking to the stranger, Prapai. Sky held his breath, as he waited for him to answer, mind moving very fast, thinking of ways to escape if the stranger, Prapai, gave him out.
“No I haven’t, no one has been here, if i see anything i would inform you” Prapai responded.
He let out a breath of relief. He still had more time. He could do this, He could escape. He didn’t know why Prapai had chosen to help him but he was really grateful.
He waited for the footsteps and voices to recede before coming out. Prapai was still standing there, his face looked like a weird mix of amusement and concern which baffled Sky.
“Why did he care, or was he just pretending?”
Sky decided he had more concerning things to think about and brushed the thought away.
“Thank you”, he muttered to Prapai, because he truly was grateful, he turned and continued on his way.
“Wait” Prapai called out, Prapai wasn’t sure why, but he wanted to help the boy, he didn’t know what he had gotten himself into and for the most part Prapai didn’t care, at least not now, all he wanted was for the boy to be safe.
“I know a better way out. Plus if you walk with me, no one will question you” he offered, pleading for the strange boy to please allow him to help. He watched as a myriad of emotions crossed the boy’s face, before he relented. Silently following Prapai past the dark empty corners.
Prapai didn’t know what to think. Looking down at the boy who looked deep in thought following him quietly. He had just gotten back from a race and was heading to meet Phayu when he felt like a cannonball hit him. He reached over to help the person from falling as well as reprimand them for not watching where they were going until he saw his face. He was young, looked like he was still in school and in his early years too. What he didn’t understand was how scared he looked when he grabbed him. It made Prapai feel weirdly protective over him, he couldn’t help but be concerned. Then he saw Stop and Gun’s gang looking for him and that raised more red flags.
What was a young innocent looking boy doing getting mixed up with people like them? What did they want from him? Moreover, what was he doing there at the race in the first place? Prapai let out a deep sigh, from how guarded the boy looks there’s no way he would be getting any answers to those questions.
“Hey I’m Prapai, can I also know your name?”
Sky doesn’t answer, he just shakes his head. As much as Prapai has helped him he can’t take any chances. Just in case for some reason he decides to change his mind and tell Stop or Gun. He can’t risk it. Especially when he isn’t sure whether or not Gun could tell it was them, it was better to play it safe. It seems like Prapai understands because he doesn’t ask anymore questions to which Sky is grateful.
As soon as Sky could see that they made it out, the extra phone still cold in his pocket, he felt his muscles relax, only for them to feel heavy again as the pit in his stomach grew, and his mouth became bitter.
Rain
Did he make it out? Is he still in there? Oh My God, did they get to him?
Sky unfortunately let his mind roam, thinking about all the things Stop and Gun would do to Rain if they found out their intention, he swallowed thickly.
No, no, no he absolutely had to find Rain
Sky turned back, heading back into the race, Rain the singular thought on his mind.
“Sky!!!”
Sky stilled when he heard his name. Could it be?
He turned to the direction of the voice, hoping his desperation wasn’t affecting his hearing.
“Rain?”
