Chapter Text
As he got out of the car, he can’t help but feel his heart thrum with excitement. Finally, the moment he had been waiting for presented itself to him. He did not even care that there were some questioning looks thrown at him as he went to the conference room to meet with his family about the dispute in their territory.
Felix. His lovely Felix proposed to him to mate in 2 months. Ah, he can’t wait for the two months to come.
So to spend more time with his soon-to-be-mate, he demanded that all meetings with him included should finish early. As much as he is obsessive, he is also a romantic at heart, and will do anything to make Felix feel loved. Even if he needs to court him with the cheesy things the omega likes.
In the next few weeks, that’s how his days go. His subordinates doing everything he assigned to them and his guards, especially Chan and Minho, helped him with the “problems” they had to deal with. Their work became so much that he forgot one crucial moment until it arrived. Even though he treated Felix with love and took him out on date nights almost every week, he completely forgot about Felix’s heat.
He was swamped with managing their family business and cuddling with Felix most nights that he didn’t even notice the growing discomfort of his omega. Or perhaps, he turned blind unknowingly to it, just like earlier that day until the fact was slapped in his face.
“Jinnie, can’t you stay for today?” His omega wrapped his arms around him from behind, burying his face onto his back and Hyunjin can’t help but chuckle at the blonde’s antics.
He removed Felix’s hold on him, putting his arms to the side before cupping the blonde’s face in his hands.
He stared at his omega’s face for a moment, really relishing the fact that he is lucky that he found Felix maybe in the wrong place, but in the right time. He can see the galaxies in his eyes and the stars that pour out into his cheeks, and he can’t help but rub his thumb on it, caress it as if it will disappear the moment he blinks.
“Not now baby, I still have work to do with my family. I swear as soon as I finish it, I’ll make it up for you, hmm?” As much as he wanted to spend time today with Felix, with him becoming clingier each day, there are still matters that he needs to attend to.
“But-” The blonde was about to retort, that is until Hyunjin shut him up with a kiss.
“Shh, don’t worry, I’ll have Jisung here with you so you won’t feel lonely, how’s that sound?” He promised to his omega, and his heart squeezed when the other looked at him with so much sadness that he almost couldn't take it.
“Alright…just please hurry up and get home, okay?”
With determination from the earlier event, Hyunjin was eager to get out of the meeting room as soon as possible and made his statements about the progress on the other territory disputes straight to the point just to get it over with.
It was in the middle of the meeting when suddenly a phone call rang across the room, and he was about to shout to whoever the owner of the phone is until he realizes that it is his phone lying innocently beside him.
A scowl made its presence on his face as he proceeded in answering the call, not caring if the others were looking at him.
“What is it?” He growled at the caller, and he heard a scoff on the other line, clearly indicating that the other hated calling him as well.
“Greetings to you, Hwang Hyunjin. As your friend, I can say that you have been a neglectful boyfriend.” The other stated in a sarcastic tone, and Hyunjin doesn’t have enough patience for this.
“Just get to the point, Han Jisung.”
He heard Jisung sigh on the other line, before he heard some shuffling and a door opening before his friend spoke again.
“Felix is in pre-heat, and quite frankly, it will hit soon, probably tonight.” Suddenly, he was made more aware by the pants and moans he heard through his phone, he recognized it to be Felix’s.
“What? But it's still-” He cut himself off as he remembered how Felix always wanted to be with him and started hoarding his clothes from the laundry basket this week. That is when the realization hits him, he completely forgot about his omega’s heat.
“...oh.”
He’s a stupid bastard.
“Tell Felix I’ll come home now.” He hung up the phone before Jisung could even answer, and stood up, getting ready to leave.
“Is it that bitch of yours again?” His older brother Chanming said, leveling Hyunjin a glare as he crossed his arms.
Hyunjin took that as a challenge as his eyes twitched in annoyance, his fist itching to punch something.
“I don’t have enough time for your bullshit today, brother. So if you will excuse-” He was about to leave when suddenly a clipboard flew towards the door he opened, effectively closing it with its impact. He then saw his older brother, nose flared and his eyes blazing with anger dead set on him.
“No, I can’t excuse you, Hyunjin. You know how important it is for these disputes to be settled! You can fuck with your slut later, but now, you have to stay.”
It was quiet for a few moments in the room enough that you could hear a pin drop. Everyone is looking at the staring contest between Hyunjin and Chanming that stretched on for a few minutes. That’s why it was surprising, frightening, when Hyunjin’s eyes crinkled as he chuckled, clapping at his brother who was about three meters away.
Those chuckles became full-blown laughter, as the younger bent and placed his hands on his stomach to control the laughter that was spilling out from his lips.
Everyone in that room felt shivers down their spine as they heard the maniacal laughter from the youngest one. Before any of them knew it, Chanming is pushed towards the glass pane of the room, feet dangling as Hyunjin lifts his body from the neck, effectively strangling the other.
This seems to get the others out of their stupor, as they took Chanming being shoved against the glass pane as a sign to get out of the conference room, or else they face the wrath of the youngest Hwang.
When Hyunjin knew the others have left, including his other brothers and his father, he brought his head closer to whisper on Chanming’s ear, his grip tightening the more the other struggled on his hold.
“I have told my omega that I would do anything to protect him, and that includes his name. If I ever hear you again slander his name, I’ll make sure you and your mate will never see another sunrise, ever again.”
He gave the other’s neck one final, excruciating, squeeze before throwing him on the floor. His brother hacked as he tried to get air into his system, with his eyes still glaring at Hyunjin.
The younger of the two just gave him one last look, before getting his jacket from his chair and going out of the conference room, dashing towards his car as he remembered why he even got angry in the first place.
His omega, his soon-to-be-mate, needs him now. And he’s damned if he did not make it on time.
Felix should have known that it was his pre-heat. Granted, he only thought that he is missing his boyfriend and becoming more clingy to him because he was more often gone than here in their house, but he should have realized that he is in pre-heat when he started getting Hyunjin’s clothes from the laundry and not bothering to wash them, wanting his alpha’s scent to linger.
He should have known that gravitating more to Hyunjin means more trouble than it is worth.
Will Hyunjin even accept him in this state? Sticky, sweaty, and definitely gross, splayed out in his nest consisting of the alpha’s clothes concentrated with his scent. He was never one to listen to that voice in his head that causes him to be insecure about himself ever since he and Hyunjin became a couple. The alpha always made him feel good about himself as if he was perfect, but right now the voice was slowly taking over his thoughts.
‘Are you sure he actually wants to mate with you?’
‘Maybe he was really avoiding you? Maybe he is sick and tired of you?’
‘Are you worth his time and effort?’
‘You’re just another omega to him. He can replace you in an instant’ But the one that hurt Felix most was the one line that practically played like a broken record in his head.
‘Are you even good enough for him?’ The voice in his head didn’t seem to want to end with all the negative thoughts. Without even realizing it his supposedly sweet pre-heat smell was starting to turn sour which immediately alerted Jisung who was coming back from getting some supplies Felix and Hyunjin might need, such as bottled water and snacks. Before Jisung entered the room, he pulled out his phone and sent Hyunjin a text to get home asap.
“Felix? What’s wrong?” Jisung asked as he entered the sour-smelling room. He saw said omega curled up in his nest but he couldn't see his face since it was buried in a pillow that had Hyunjin’s shirt on top. Jisung placed the items on the bedside table and slowly placed his hand on top of Felix’s.
“..... Hannie?.....” Felix asked, voice muffled and clearly still sobbing.
“What’s wrong Felix?” Jisung asked, kneeling next to the bed and holding Felix’s hand tighter. There was an awkward silence between them for around 5 minutes before Felix finally spoke.
“Am I good enough for him ?” Felix asked in between sniffles while carefully making eye contact with him. He finally voiced out what was going on inside his head and just saying it caused more tears to flow.
“What are you talking about Lix? Of course, you’re perfect for him. You’ve made him very happy, I should know I’ve been working for him for a while now.” Jisung replied immediately.
He saw how Hyunjin was with his ex, Woon and if he was to compare how he was with Felix, without a doubt he is in a better place and is happier with Felix. Woon didn’t even interact with any of the guards, especially the 6 of them, unlike Felix who took time to get to know each one of them and occasionally, with Hyunjin’s permission, chooses who he wants to guard him so he could spend time with them. Jisung was grateful for Felix, not only because he was an omega like him, but because Felix helped him realize that he shouldn’t let his sub-gender affect him. He saw how Felix didn’t let him being an omega stop him from being one of Felix’s guards whenever Felix went out. To be honest, Jisung was always scared whenever Felix chose him to be his companion for the day. He did voice it out to Hyunjin and the others eventually and it was Hyunjin who actually told him that Felix didn’t really have any Omega friends that he was close to so when he found out that Jisung was an Omega he became excited and asked permission immediately if he could befriend him. After hearing this from his boss, Jisung became more confident and even got closer to Felix, considering him his best friend.
“Why doesn’t he want to stay home with me?” Felix answered back. More tears from his eyes clearly wanted to fall, it's just that the Omega was doing his best to stop himself.
“Then why was he in such a hurry to leave this morning?!” And with that Felix’s tears started to fall again. At this point, he was surprised that he was still able to produce tears with how much he had been crying. Jisung, who was still holding his hand, pulled Felix towards him and engulfed him in a tight hug on the floor. He also started releasing calming pheromones to help calm Felix down until Hyunjin got back home. He didn’t know what was wrong with his best friend but he has half the mind to yell at Hyunjin for making Felix feel like he isn’t good enough.
“Felix, you need to calm down, please. You're going to wear yourself out, come on let’s get you something to drink.” Jisung said while reaching out for one of the bottled water he placed on the table. It was already a challenge to get said bottled water, now opening it and letting Felix drink is even more challenging. He slowly maneuvered the distressed Omega to sit on his lap and placed the opening of the water bottle on his lips.
“Small sips Lix, come on please.” Jisung pleaded. As an Omega himself he knew how dehydrated the body could get during preheat and heat, add the fact that Felix was also crying his eyes out he was going to end up severely dehydrated if he didn't drink anything. Felix did eventually start taking small sips and practically drank half of the water bottle before burying his face in Jisung’s chest again. The two of them just sat down on the floor in silence until Felix stopped crying and eventually fell asleep. Jisung wanted to move them to the bed but at the same time, Felix didn’t give him permission to enter his nest so he decided to just get comfortable on the floor till Hyunjin arrives home or Felix wakes up.
