Chapter Text

It was deep in the night and dark figures were flying in the sky, perfectly blending in it's black horizon and clouds until they were invisible as only RainWings could become.
Greeatness was flying in front of the group, searching with her eyes for any sign of guards around the SkyWings's palace, she had send Shapeshifter and other two soldiers to get their attention and take them far from their posts.
"I hope their fi-"

<< Princess, I'm here. >>

Shapeshifter's form flew out from some clouds, his fangs exposed in a victorious grin.

<< You seem pretty content with yourself, did everything go according to the plan? >>
<< Yes, Your Highness, Astral and Bauxite are still taking care of the guards and sent me back to report. >>
<< That's good! Are you sure you know how to enter? >>
<< I'm the best spy in whole Phyrria, they never saw me before, they won't now. >>

He said as he lowered his voice in a silent giggle.

<< they know nothing about NightWings, they're gonna get their asses handled to them like a pulp of meat that's being grinded. >>
<< ... yeah... ? >>

The princess shook her head, but smiled too.

<< And my mother will finally see that I'm not a a weakling or a disappointment. >>

Shapeshifter patted her head gently, ignoring the look on the other NightWings as he stopped touching their princess with such casualty and landed in the arena, gesturing for them to follow.

<< We can easily access the dungeons from here. >>

Whispered Shapeshifter, rapidly lowering his tone as he looked around.
"Of course, some guard might still be there."
Thought Greatness with a shiver.
The place was big, silent and creepy, some of the NightWings shivered at the thought of stepping over the blood of the dragons that were killed in that place, like their rotten bodies could have gotten out from the dirt to attack them like in some old legends about dead dragons coming back alive to eat living ones¹.

<< This is the entrance, it goes right in the dungeon. >>

Explained Shapeshifter as he took them to a crate-door and motioned at the tunnel behind it.

<< We have to be quick, a patrol could come and spot us. >>
<< Hunter, Trickster, you make sure to tell us if somebody comes, we'll hear you don't worry. >>

Ordered Greatness as the two NightWings bowed to her and went in two different corners of the arena, hiding on the shadows and keeping an eye out for any sign of SkyWings.
The princess and the others stared at the crate, trying to find a way to open it or a weak point to hit, even if the second option could have caught too much attention.

<< I still don't get why you didn't try to talk to them like Princess Blister suggested, Your Highness, this is dangerous. >>

Said Void, another dragoness that was trying to lift the gate.

<< You heard of what Burn and Scarlet do to prisoners, right? >>

Asked Shapeshifter sounding almost annoyed.

<< Well, as a spy, I saw what they do, she could have tried to talk with Queen Moorhen, but those two would have killed or kidnapped her istantly. It's safer to be here with us. >>
<< Damn, what kind of sick masochist enjoy heing the subject of such a monstrosity of a ruler? >>

Void asked herself as she and the others managed to pull up the gate with a screeching sound of protest by the mechanism that wasn't made to work like that.

<< Come, we'll get where they keep the prisoners and Morrowseer. >>

Said Shapeshifter as he stood in the back of the group and motioned for them to go in with a movement of his wings.

<< You are indeed a really good spy, you know these prisons so well... >>
<< Oh, you should see how easy ot is to spy in a kingdom where they don't even know if you breath fire or spit flying sparkling broccoli², our queen has been very wise to teach us about how important it is to keep our secrets. >>

The group laughed quietly at the joke of their friend, quickly following the tunnel until they got in a big room with cells all around the place and guards talking around a small table where they were playing with cards.

<< We must take them down. >>

Whispered Greatness as the others prepared to fire at the guards, switching places untill they got in the right position to hit them.

<< Ready... >>

Greatness lifted a paw, waiting a few seconds before hitting the ground with it and whispering: "Fire!" as the others shoot at the guards.
The SkyWings didn't have the time to react as they were burned and then tackled down by the fastest NightWings.

<< Don't kill them. >>

Said Shapeshifter as he took a few steps near them.

<< They'll obviously know who violated their prison. If we kill their guards, we'll just make them angrier and vengeful and we'll put our tribe at risk. >>
<< He's right, every NightWing is important for the future of our Tribe and being the superiors specie, we can't let our blood being spilled if it's not necessary. >>

Added Greatness as she searched for Morrowseer.
It wasn't hard to find him, there were only two NightWings in that place: Fatespeaker and the one they were looking for.

<< Took your sweet time. >>

Growled him as they tried to take him out of his cell, luckily it wasn't hard to force the cell open, the hardest part was to avoid Morrowseer's claws as he jumped out of the cell and attacked them.

<< Are you out of your mind?! >>

Screamed Greatness as Shapeshifter got her by her throat and slammed her against a wall enough times to make black spots appear in her vision as her head was getting dizzier and his laughter louder.
His puppet was behaving all according to his plan.

<< Oh, poor princess... >>

Laughed "Shapeshifter" while letting her fall on the floor like some useless tool.

<< ... looks like your mother was right, you have to work harder to become queen, especially on choosing rookies for a mission 'cause they're your friends and how to recognize when something is clearly too easy and someone particularly... I'd say at ease. >>

Continued the RainWing wearing now the mask of Soar, after all the SkyWings didn't knew his true identity.
A few of the NightWings' flew out of the dungeon in hope to be safe, only to get out in a arena full of guards with Hunter and Trickster already under their "care".

<< Did you got the other two that tried to flee in the woods? >>

Asked "Soar".

<< Yes, but they were three. >>
<< Yeah, looks like the third one vanished in thin air when you went searching for him. >>
<< I killed that bastard, you can find his body near the river. >>

Said the animus who anchanted a rock big enough to appear as Shapeshifter's body, hoping the weight was close enough to that of a corpse that big.

<< Right but... how did you get here so quickly, Soar? >>
<< Very simple: you have an important prisoner in your dungeon? Then that's where the intruders are going, I got in from the upper floor while the sentinels came to retrieve you. >>

The guards looked satisfied and went back to immobilize their new prisoners.

~~~~
<< Too easy. >>
Laughed queen Scarlet as she and her "friends" watched the performance with pure amusement.
<< Oh, so easy to get in a trap, I was expecting more. >>
Said Burn as she faked a pout while Moorhen stared at the NightWings being captured in silence, slowly lowering her gaze to her paws as she thought of the terrible torture they could face in the future.
<< You think Queen Battlewinner will be mad? >>
<< Oh, I really hope so. >>
Notes:
(¹)= zombie dragons would be cool and since the books state that an Animus can't make a dead live again, it wouldn't even be that impossible, since they'd be just dead bodies moving and rotting... maybe I can try for a single scene.
(²)= among the various fanmade Tribes we made, we could make an amimus curse an entire dragon specie to do this.
