Conclusion

Summary:

A post leads the students to finally come to a favourable conclusion.

Notes:

Okay. Here's the third part of this series. As usual it is not beta read, so any mistakes are mine and you're free to point out. This sums up the Inference series, honestly, unless I feel motivated to do some spin offs or write some more.

Enjoy!

Work Text:

Min Yoongi

Contrary to popular belief, Min Yoongi is a man of attention. He is very attentive to everything happening around him, very aware of sudden changes in his surroundings and quick to adapt with it. It’s his quick thinking and ability to adapt & avoid that has saved him from countless situations. So he is very aware of the sudden change in his students’ behaviour.

It’s been a week since the Annual Day and the closure of the apparent Operation: Yoonmin. And it’s been pure chaos. The believers, or shippers as Jungkook had corrected him, were a bit thrown by the discovery that both of them are, in fact, married and the ones who didn’t believe they were together (“Antis, hyung. They’re the antis”, Jungkook had corrected, laughing) were extremely happy to be proven right. They were so happy that they’d taken it upon themselves to harass the shippers, calling them names and making their existence a bit miserable. Yoongi had, on countless occasions, found one of the shippers, especially the freshmen, being bullied by a bunch of antis, and only when he had sufficiently announced his presence, had they left the person alone. The ones affected the most from this outcome were Shin Aecha and Han Sohee. Yoongi quite liked Shin Aecha. She was a clever girl who spoke her mind but had a heart of gold. She was also pretty talented both dance and music wise, and added her outgoing personality, Yoongi could actually see her becoming an idol someday soon. So seeing her a bit miserable and being harassed didn’t sit well with him.

But the most affected one out of all of them had to be his husband, Park Jimin. His husband was a bit disappointed that their students couldn’t come to the conclusion that they could be married to each other and instead drop the entire subject of them being together. Many a times these past few days, Yoongi had caught Jimin deep in thoughts watching the group of shippers, who have taken to stick together now in order to avoid being caught off guard, his brows furrowed and mouth downturned. It didn’t sit right with Yoongi. Park Jimin was supposed to be bright, happy and be the annoying sunshine that he always was, not frowning over something stupid. So he decided to take the matters into his own hand. He was tired of seeing the students get called names for no fault of theirs. And he was more tired of seeing his husband being sad and mopey when they’re at work.

The opportunity arose one Friday night. Him and Namjoon had gone out for drinks and stayed out pretty late, talking about a new production project Yoongi had taken up. When he got back home, the apartment was silent. Yoongi slowly slipped out of his shoes and tiptoed down the dark hallway, towards the living room. The sight that greeted him there make his heart melt. The television is playing lowly and on the couch his husband and his son are cuddled against each other, fast asleep. Yoongi smiled softly as he quickly snapped a few photos of the adorable sight. Then he slowly shook his husband awake. Jimin blinked his eyes blearily and Yoongi resists the urge to coo. His husband is still as adorable as he was when they’d first met.

“Babe? You’re home?” Jimin asks, his voice sleep warm.

“Yes sweetheart”, Yoongi answers as he gently unwraps Haein from Jimin’s arms to put the kid to bed. Jimin smiles and stretches, cracking a few bones.

“What time is it?” Yoongi tells him the time and Jimin’s eyes widen a bit.

“Let me put Innie back to bed and then we can cuddle to sleep, hmm?” Yoongi asks, making his husband smile and nod as he gets up to change for bed.

Moments later, they’re both in bed, Jimin cuddling Yoongi while he threads his fingers through his hair.

“I love you”, Jimin mumbles sleepily and Yoongi melts, placing a kiss on the crown of his head.

“I love you too, Minnie. Now go to sleep.”

Jimin hums and then is out like a light. Yoongi watches the soft, beautiful features of his sleeping husband for a while, when suddenly, an idea clicks in. He slowly reaches for his phone on the night stand, not trying to jostle Jimin. The pictures from before greets him, making him smile. He quickly goes to his Instagram and his fingers hover over the Post button for a few moments, before he says ‘fuck it’ and posts the picture, along with a quick caption.

Then he pulls his husband closer, pressing a soft kiss to his temple and cuddles him to sleep, a small smile curling on his lips, imagining the chaos this post is gonna leave in its wake.

Shin Aecha

@yoonmin: Dear Yoonminers,

It’s with heavy heart that we admins declare that we’ll be shutting off Operation: Yoonmin. Recently, it came to light that both our professors, Professor Min and Park, are in fact, happily married and Professor Park even has a son with his significant other. We have read too much into the interactions between our professors and have misinterpreted their friendship into something more. We apologise to everyone and anyone to whom we may have knowingly or unknowingly caused pain, especially to our wonderful professors.

Thank you all who have been a part of this page. It was really wonderful making friends and gathering proofs on a non-existent relationship. We would always cherish the bonds formed via this venture.

Signing off,

S & A

Comments

@im_junho: have you considered the possibility that they might be married to one another?

Shin Aecha stared at the comment for a long time before the letters turned into words and the words slowly started making sense in her sleep addled brain. And when she finally realised what the comment meant in reality, she squashed her face into her pillow and screamed.

Shin Aecha never thought that hearing your professor confess that he is, in fact married, with a child, would be so disappointing. After Professor Park left with his son on the Annual Day, the four of them stood there, dumbfounded for a few minutes, trying to comprehend what just happened in the past few seconds. It was Song Jiwaa who recovered first, not to anyone’s surprise.

“You need to stop this”, was what she said as soon as she found words, “this shipping page and gathering evidences and discussing about their love life, all has to stop. They’re married for fuck’s sale!”

Han Sohee was still a bit out of it, the expression on her face a bit far off, so Aecha was the one who nods her head in approval. Later, that night, she posted the apology message on the page but she couldn’t find it in herself to actually delete the account and disband the messenger group. They’d all actually grown a lot closer through evidence gathering and theorising their professors’ relationship. The group had somehow become a safe space for like minded people to discuss about other things that they couldn’t do it in person and Aecha was having a lot of fun in all this.

There was also a small part of her that refused to believe that whatever was going on between her professors was just mere friendship. You don’t look at your friend like you want to kiss them. But the alternative was far worse than what the reality of their relationship is. So she chose not to believe it and instead with a heavy heart, logged off from the page and decided she would deal with all of it later.

It’s been a week since the Annual Day and their lives have been somewhat of a living hell. The antis have rejoiced on finding they were right all along so much so that they’ve taken to bullying them at almost every chance they got. She and Sohee were the worst affected of all because they were the ones who started it. The other shippers were in the same situation more or less and slowly, people started leaving the page and the group chat on their own, fearing more attacks on them from the other group.

She had lost all hopes of ever recovering from this situation, let alone finding someone who would believe in her theory any more. So the comment this morning stirred something in her gut. It made her excited, happy even. It made her hope.

“You’ve got to be kidding me”, is the first thing Kim Haerim says when Aecha shows her the comment, giddy with happiness that there’s someone out there who thinks there’s still some hope, “even after everything, how can he-? No Aecha, this is madness.”

“But Haerim, what if he’s right? What if they are married –”

“Stop right there. Don’t go down that hole again, Aecha. They’re our professors for God’s sake! Even if they’re married, which they’re not I’m absolutely sure of it, it’s their business if they would come out to their students or not. You should learn to respect their boundaries, Aecha-ah.”

That made Aecha pause. Haerim was right. They were her professors. No matter how friendly they are to their students, they should give them a modicum of respect and not go poking into their personal lives. If they want their students to know that they’re married to each other or who their significant others are, they should be allowed to do so in their own terms and not because a few of their over ambitious students decided to be nosy and poked their noses where they didn’t belong.

“You’re right, Haerim-ah”, she says at last, voice deflating a bit, “I’m sorry.”

Haerim pulls her into a one arm hug which makes her smile and they begin walking towards their class. But Aecha doesn’t fail to notice a subtle difference in their surroundings. Entire way to the class, they weren’t harassed by any of the antis.

“What’s wrong with them?” Haerim asked, eyeing a particular group of junior antis who looked a bit ashen for some reason, “Usually they would’ve been all over us by now.”

Aecha shrugs, “Maybe one of the professors reprimanded them.”

They both enter the class, confused and found a group of antis from their class gathered around one of the front desks, deep in conversation. They looked agitated, some even had the expression of disbelief written all over their face. Aecha nudged her seat mate, Lee Daehyun, who looked up from his own phone to give her a smile. Daehyun was also a shipper and the three of them had excitedly discussed the endless theories surrounding their professors back then

“Oh hey, Aecha, Haerim”, Daehyun greeted them, smiling widely, “Heard the good news?”

“What good news?” Aecha asked, plopping down her seat, “And what’s up with them? Why are they behaving weirdly?” She gestured towards the group of antis who were now having a very heated discussion, furiously whispering to one another.

“You haven’t seen it yet?” Daehyun asks and if possible his smile grows wider.

“Seen what?”

“This.”

Daehyun hands over his phone to Aecha and Haerim. He has Professor Min’s Instagram account opened. At first, Aecha wonders what’s there to look, but then Daehyun clicks at the recent post and both of their eyes widen. Professor Min has posted a picture of a sleeping Professor Park with his son, Haein, who is also asleep, cuddled on his chest. The caption read: Two of my most precious people in the world 💕  #yoonmin

They stare at it for a few minutes, unable to formulate words and then they both scream:

“OH MY GOD!”

Han Sohee

When she was 5, Han Sohee’s parents finally divorced after years of fighting and slamming doors. When her mother finally left that house with her and her elder sister, Sohee had felt relieved. Even at that young age, she knew her parents did not love each other.

When she was 12, her mother remarried another man and they moved from their grandma’s house to a new city. Sohee wasn’t really happy about this move, almost begging her mother to let her stay with her grandma. She didn’t like her mother’s new husband much. He didn’t seem to care much about her and her sister. The new house was big and gloomy. Sohee kept to herself, not speaking much with either of her parents. Her sister, who was 16, was going through her rebel phase and she would hear them shout at each other every day. Slowly, the fights between her mother and sister evolved into fights between her mother and her husband. Soon, the new house started resembling the old one. When her mother finally divorced this man after 3 years, Sohee breathed a sigh of relief, heading back to her grandma’s.

A year later, when her grandma died, she felt like she actually lost her home. Her birth father, as much as she could remember, had never really cared much her. Her mother couldn’t be bothered to care much about her, busy trying to figure her own life out. Her sister had hated her. Throughout her childhood, she had blamed Sohee to be the cause of their parents’ divorce and everything else that had happened later. The only person she’d ever loved was her grandma. She was the only good thing in her life, always encouraging her to do good, no matter how hard the world around her got. She would bake cookies for her and hug her when she was sad. Now that she was gone, Sohee really was all alone.

University didn’t feel like a new beginning to her. She was scared of making friends only for them to leave, so she kept everyone at arm’s length. The first time she saw Professor Min and Park bicker, she, like everyone else, had thought they didn’t get along at all. But growing up in a difficult environment had taught Sohee to be extra perceptive of other people’s moods and emotions, and so, as she started paying closer attention to her professors, she started noticing that there was definitely some amount of sexual tension between them.

The bet was a lack of judgement in her part, honestly. She really didn’t realise what she was getting herself into when she made it with a bunch of entitled gits of her class. But what she didn’t anticipate was how blown up it would get and how many more people would get involved in this. Honestly, when she’d started the University, all Sohee had wanted was to keep her head down and survive the 4 years the same way she survived her school. She didn’t want attention from others, much less of the entire University. But, unfortunately, she ended up gaining more than that. Through the bet she met some people who she could definitely call her friends. The concept was foreign to her and she tried to keep them at arm’s length but there was only so much she could do and in the end, she just gave in and let herself enjoy the companionship that came within the group of like minded people. She wouldn’t admit it out loud but she had grown to care for a few of them, especially Shin Aecha and Kim Haerim, and  Song Jiwaa, who acted like an elder sister to the entire dance group. She had also grown a bit fond of the subject of their bet, Professors Min and Park, and even though she still firmly believed that all they had between them was sexual tension and nothing more, there was also a smaller, hopeful part in her that wanted to believe that there was more. That they loved each other and were actually dating or something, that something as pure as love still existed and those two stupid bickering men actually felt something more for each other, other than lust. Because sometimes, when they would think nobody was watching, Professor Min would give Professor Park such a soft, fond look that it would make even Han Sohee’s heart skip a beat.

So when Professor Park, with his son in his arm and his ring dangling from the silver chain around his neck, declared he was actually married, Han Sohee’s hopes shattered once more and all of the worst outcomes that had been circling in the darkest parts of her mind came to forefront. She felt as if she was still that naïve 5 year old Han Sohee, who believed her father when he had said he would visit her every weekend and had waited for his visits every Saturday, refusing to eat breakfast until her grandma would ultimately coax her to eat something around noon. She was devastated and half listened to the conversation between Shin Aecha and Song Jiwaa about giving up on this whole operation. She remembered agreeing to it and then heading back to her measly one room apartment, lying face down on her bed, trying to figure out when did she become so invested in sex lives of two old men so much.

After that, everything went to hell.

This morning, when Sohee woke up, she wasn’t expecting it to be any different. She dressed and left for the University, preparing for the endless struggles. Last night somebody posted a new comment on their farewell post that Shin Aecha had made. Sohee didn’t have the heart to check it but yet she opened her Instagram. There was a notification stating Professor Min had posted something. Hoping it was about some new music or another cat picture, she clicked on it, just to distract herself before she faced reality again. But what she saw made her stop in her tracks, staring intently at her phone.

@m.y.g.:   Two of my most precious people in the world 💕   #yoonmin

It was picture of Professor Park with his son on his lap, both of them asleep and looking adorable. It took her a moment to read and re-read the caption and then her eyes fell on the comment section, at one comment in particular.

@ji_min: Min Yoongi, you absolutely amazing human. I love you so much 😘

Han Sohee had stared at the image for a good 15 minutes now. Long enough to have even the slightest details of the photo embedded behind his eyelids. Long enough to convince herself that she’s awake and not dreaming in her bed like she had done the countless times in the past. That all of this was actually happening in reality. That her professors are, indeed, together.

She’s snapped out of her daze with someone shouting her name and looks up from her phone to find a very elated Shin Aecha rushing towards her. As soon as they’re in touching distance, Shin Aecha throws herself at Han Sohee and both of them tumble on the grounds in front of the Art Building.

“We WON! WE WON!” Shin Aecha exclaims and Han Sohee finds herself laughing in disbelief. They won. They were actually right.

And at that moment, lying haphazardly on the grounds of the University laughing hysterically , with Shin Aecha hugging the life out of her, still screaming ‘We won!’ in her ears and Kim Haerim watching them both with fond exasperation, and the late spring sun shining on them, Han Sohee felt warm. She felt warm and happy after a long, long time, or perhaps, for the first time in her life, she felt as if she belonged somewhere.

S & A

Junho read the caption once more, trying very hard to make himself believe that what he was reading was indeed true. That the admins found out their professors were married and their first conclusion was to give up on their professors’ love lives, instead of it being that they might be married to each other. He just couldn’t believe how stupid they could’ve been. His first instinct was to comment about it, but then he held back. A lot of people on campus still believed that their professors weren’t actually together, let alone married to each other. It is true that these people shipped them together, but even with the amount of tension surrounding the two men, it wasn’t easy to draw the conclusion that they might be together in that way. So he decided to observe some more.

The following week after the Annual Day and the subsequent declaration from the shippers, was intolerable. Nobody knew Junho was a shipper because he wasn’t an active participant, choosing to observe from the sidelines, so he was mostly spared. But the rest of them didn’t have such luck, especially Shin Aecha and Han Sohee. He felt bad for them, especially Aecha. He liked her, she was bubbly and bright and always tried to include everyone in whatever she was doing. He sometimes wished he was like her – bright and cheerful. So seeing her so down and sad, tormented by antis at every turn, made him sad. He decided to end this after finding a silently crying Aecha in the Art Room.

“Shin Aecha-ssi?” Junho called, trying not to embarrass the other person for crying in the Art Room. “Are you okay?”

Shin Aecha made an embarrassing sound at that, caught in a surprise and then let out a watery chuckle.

“Yeah”, she said, wiping the tears from her cheeks, “yeah, I’m okay now.”

Junho had stared at her for a while. He had never imagined he would be at the receiving end of that bright smile ever. But now, as he found himself face to face with a red eyed, tear streaked face and still smiling that 100 watt smile, Shin Aecha, he felt his cheeks darken and his heartbeat quicken a bit. From this close, he was sure her smile could give even the sun a run for its money.

“Sunbaenim?” Shin Aecha asked breaking Junho’s train of thought.

“Huh?” Junho muttered unintelligibly, making Aecha giggle again and Junho wanted to record that sound and keep listening to it forever.

“I said thank you”, she said shyly.

“But I didn’t do anything.”

“You surprised me enough to elicit a laugh out of me. So thank you.”

Junho gave her what he thought was a smile but he was very sure it came out more like a grimace or something but the other girl didn’t seem too bothered by it and skipped out of the Art Room, in a better mood than she was when he found her, and it made warmth spread in his chest. Later, that night, he decided to ‘fuck it’ and comment his own conclusion in the post.

Junho had not checked his social media after commenting last night. He didn’t want to see how big of a fool he had made out of himself. But as he stepped into the University grounds, he felt a subtle change in the air. He didn’t know whether it was a good change or a bad change, or if he was the reason of it. Whatever it was, he was wary of his surroundings. By the time he entered the Art Room, he was so nervous that he almost screamed when he found someone sitting there.

“Did I scare you, sunbaenim?” Shin Aecha asked, mischief evident in her voice as she regarded a heavily breathing Junho curiously.

“Aecha-ssi”, Junho replied, finally getting his breathing back to normal, “what are you doing here?”

“Did you check your Instagram?”

Junho stared at her dumbly, not expecting this question. Aecha gave another of those cute giggles and really, she should stop because it was driving Junho mad, then shoved her phone to his face. It took a few moments for him to focus on what he was seeing, as he blinked rapidly, adjusting his vision. When he did, his jaw almost dropped to floor. He was staring at a picture of Professor Park and his son, cuddled to sleep. Below, the caption read:

@m.y.g.:  Two of my most precious people in the world💕  #yoonmin

And even below that, one of the comment caught his eyes, and he almost squealed:

Comments

@ji_min: Min Yoongi, you absolutely amazing human. I love you so much 😘

       @m.y.g: @ji_min I love you more, babe

“Oh my God!” Junho whisper screamed, “You.. they... We...we were right?”

Aecha smiled brightly. “I think you were right.”

She changed the screen to the comment Junho had left last night, making him blush a bit.

“I-uh...”

“How did you know?” she asked, cocking her head to the side, “That they were married? How did you come to that conclusion?”

And this time Junho smiled genuinely.

“Have you seen them interact at times? The way Professor Min’s face softens a bit or the way Professor Park’s face sometimes lights up when Professor Min says something particularly witty to Professor Kim? Or when they smile at each other with such tenderness and affection sometimes, when they think no one is watching? It’s all these things that gives them away, honestly. I was bit surprised you didn’t come to that conclusion.”

Shin Aecha regarded him with another curiosity filled look and then her face broke into another bright smile.

“You’re very perceptive, sunbaenim”, she declared, hopping off the desk she was sitting on, “I like that. If you don’t mind, I would like to get to know you better, Im Junho-sunbaenim.”

And Junho sputtered a bit, making the younger burst into another giggling feat.

“I- uh.. I would, too, Aecha-ssi.”

Aecha smiles sweetly and proceeds to exit out of the Art Room.

“I’ll see you around then, Junho oppa”, she says from the doorway and Junho is pretty sure his face has gone permanently red by now. And as he hears Aecha’s musical laughter floating out of the Art Room, he’s sure the other person has noticed it too.

But he doesn’t mind, not one bit.

Park Jisan

When Jisan was 7, he participated in his first dance recital. That evening, after being praised by both his teachers and other parents, a very elated Jisan had come home and declared he would become a professional dancer when he grows up. His parents had smiled, filing the declaration under childish dreams and didn’t pay much attention to it.

When Jisan was 15, he failed a maths test. It wasn’t anything serious, a simple class test for which he couldn’t study because of an upcoming recital. His father had stared at the 2.5/10 he had scored in the paper for a good fifteen minutes. Then he stood up and walked out of their living room, leaving a very confused Jisan and his trembling mother behind. He came back with Jisan’s ballet shoes and promptly set them on fire. Jisan had been so shocked for the first few seconds that he couldn’t even cry, but when the reality of the situation hit, he screamed. He cried and begged his father to stop, to not burn his shoes, that he promised he would work harder and he won’t disappoint him again.

“Remember that”, his father had said as the last promise slipped past his lips, “You better not disappoint me, ever.”

He had left the house, slamming the doors, leaving a slightly whimpering Jisan on the floor, trying to collect the charred remains of his ballet shoes.

He withdrew from the dance recital the next day.

When he was 16, he came out to his mother as gay. She had hugged him tightly, tears spilling from her eyes.

“Don’t tell your father, hm?” she had begged shakily, her face drawn and pale. And Jisan had simply bit his lips and nodded.

When he was 17, he had tried to jump in front of a moving train, unable to keep going any longer,  only to be pulled back by a concerned lady, who gave him some water and kept asking if he was alright. The lady somehow reminded him of his mother, of how she used to be before everything went to shit.

Later, that night, as he lay on his bed, he made up his mind to not give up his dream and live a dead man’s life. He had already saved up enough for the past 2-3 years. He knew he would be able to get a scholarship in one of the prestigious universities, and as long as he stays in the dorms, his rent and food cost will be covered. And he could always get a part time job. His mind made up, he focused on graduating from school.

He left one night, after turning 18, leaving only a note behind for his mother. His parents had never called him once in these four years and honestly, Jisan didn’t care. The first year was a struggle, with a shitty roommate and Oh Minjoon’s crew of assholes. It was one such evening when Minjoon and his crew were bullying him, he met Hwang Kihwan, who dropped an entire bucket of black paint on them from the second floor of the Art Building.

“Oh, I’m so sorry”, he apologised and Jisan had looked up to see who did it and his eyes met with that of a boy his age, who wore a shirt so tacky that he might as well declare he is gay. “My hands slipped.”

Jisan tried to stifle a laugh when he saw how flushed Minjoon’s face looked, covered head to toe in black paint.

“Hi”, the boy whispered to him after the assholes were gone, “You okay? Those shitheads didn’t harm you, right?”

“No”, Jisan had smiled, looking at the eccentrically dressed boy who was also smiling brightly at him, “Thanks to you, I guess.”

“Yah! What do you mean? My hands really slipped.”

And Jisan giggled and was soon joined by the boy.

“I’m Hwang Kihwan, freshman, Drama.”

“Park Jisan, freshman, Dance. It’s nice to meet you.”

“Woah, Dance? You must be pretty good to get a scholarship here, huh?”

Jisan’s face fell a bit and he asked hesitantly, “Umm, how did you know?”

Kihwan seemed to realise what he said he blushed profusely, “I.. um, may have.. um looked you up?” At Jisan’s raised eyebrow, he quickly went on to say, “no, no, not like a stalker or something. Just I saw you at the Orientation program and you looked pretty cute, so I decided to, you know, check you out a bit. It’s all harmless, I promise.”

By the end of the conversation, both of them were blushing profusely.

“You think I’m cute?” Jisan had asked, smirking slightly, even though his heart was doing somersaults in his chest. Kihwan nodded his head enthusiastically.

“Yeah. I think you’re pretty cute and I would like to get to know you.”

Jisan had smiled then, the warmth spreading through his chest.

“I’d like that too.”

And thus began his relationship with Hwang Kihwan. Their relationship was, in no way, easy, but Jisan had never been happier. He was making a career out of what he loved to do, had supportive friends and a boyfriend who never stopped telling him how strong and talented he was. He had never imagined his life would come to this, honesty. Which brings him to his most recent dilemma.

It’s been two weeks since Annual Day and Jisan has got many offers, one of which is from his dream company, a musical troupe from London. But he doesn’t know what to do. Kihwan had been over the moon when he told him about the offer, jumping around the dorm room, singing ‘My boyfriend is amazing’, and making Jisan blush and laugh in return. But now that the excitement of the Annual Day and subsequent getting of offers have worn off, he’s in a dilemma about whether to go or not and what the consequences were if he did end up going, especially between him and Kihwan, with the other boy remaining here. He didn’t want to move away and let the relationship fall apart due to the growing distance between them. So he decided to ask for advice from the only person he knew who could.

“Jisan?” Professor Park was shocked to see him in the studio at this time of the day, “what are you doing here?”

“I was hoping I could speak with you.”

Professor Park gave him a confused nod and allowed him to step inside. Jisan spotted Professor Min immediately, sitting at the piano, looking equally confused and if not amused at the situation.

“What is the matter?” Professor Park asked, “Is it those assholes again? Are they bothering you? I swear, hyung, I told Jungkookie to do something about it...”

“And he did, Minnie”, Professor Min smoothly cut his husband, “They’re out of the team, remember? Now, Mr. Park, why don’t you tell us your reason for being here before my husband starts going off-tangent again?”

“It sounds silly”, Jisan tried, because it did. Who in their right mind would be reconsidering going to perform with one of the greatest musical groups in the world just because they thought their relationship would fall apart? He’s pretty sure his professors would tell him to man the fuck up and follow his dreams.

“Let us be the judge of that, hm?” Professor Min’s steady voice reassured Jisan a bit and so he poured his concerns over the offer to his professors. The silence that followed after his confession was a bit loaded and it made Jisan feel a bit uncomfortable. Maybe he shouldn’t have come to his professors, maybe he should’ve figured it out himself. But after the events following the Annual Day and Professor Min’s apparent declaration of being actually married to Professor Park all along, he felt as if they were the only people who could actually understand what he was going through. But he could be wrong. Maybe he appears childish in front of them.

“You remember when you had to leave?” Professor Min suddenly broke the silence between them, making both Jisan and Professor Park look at him, “After our University?”

And there was a faint smile on Professor Park’s lips. “Yeah. I almost had a panic attack, remember?”

“You had... I’m not getting you, sir”, Jisan said, confusion evident in his voice.

“Jiminie got an offer from one of the best studios in New York before his graduation”, Professor Min began, a small smile on his lips, “We had just started dating a year ago, and frankly, none of our friends believed we would last because of obvious reasons. Minnie was so scared when the offer came. It was his dream to perform in that studio but he was afraid that if he leaves and I stay here, we won’t last. That our relationship would dry up and we would give up.”

“But you didn’t”, Jisan declared.

“Of course not”, Professor Park replied, smiling proudly at his husband, “Doesn’t mean it was easy, though. At first, it was difficult because we couldn’t adjust the time difference. By the time we did, we couldn’t find a proper time to talk with each other. We both were busy and most days, all we got from each other were little reminders of eating properly or taking rest or just a ‘goodnight’ or ‘good morning’. Some days, I would break down thinking I’m losing him but right then, a text would appear in form of a reminder or a simple picture of sunset with the caption ‘thinking of you’ and I would know that I won’t lose him. That we won’t give up on each other and on us. And that gave me strength to keep pushing myself and keep going.”

By the time Professor Park finished, Jisan’s eyes were wide with disbelief, and a new found respect for his professors in his heart.

“Jisan, it’s true that you can’t control your future. That maybe when you leave this relationship will fall apart, that you guys won’t be able to do long distance. But the opposite may also be true. When Minnie went to States and I was stuck here, the only thing that kept me focused into doing my best in music industry was the fact that I wanted my boyfriend to be proud of me. Most days, it was only his texts or selfies that gave me energy to get up and start my day. If not for him, I would’ve given up a long time ago. Love can be painful, yes, but love can also be your greatest strengths. So you need to take that leap of faith, Jisan.”

Jisan felt his eyes grow tearful. He had always respected the two of his professors throughout his University, even though he never thought there was something more between them, other than them being just friends. But after learning the truth of their relationship and how much they loved each other, and how, despite all the struggles, they were still together, gave him strength. It gave him hope that him and Kihwan can end up like their professors some day, happily married with an adorable kid. So he stood up and bowed deeply at both of them.

“Thank you for everything, Professors.”

They both smiled warmly at him, and as Jisan left the studio and found Kihwan standing near the stairwell, waiting for him, he ran and pulled his boyfriend into a surprise hug, who gave out a laugh and hugged him back, equally tight, he felt warm and happy and hopeful. And as they made their way back to the dorms, with Kihwan talking about something Seo Hana had done in the class, Jisan found himself thinking back to the words of his professors.

He looked at his side, at his bright and cheerful boyfriend and thought that maybe, just maybe, they would last. That they would face the battles the world throws at them and come out unscathed.

Park Jimin

“Just because you declared the truth of your relationship so that your husband isn’t sulking anymore, doesn’t mean you won the bet, Min Yoongi”, Kim Seokjin declared with finality, making Min Yoongi scoff.

“Pfft, please hyung. If it wasn’t for my declaration those idiots wouldn’t have been able to come to that conclusion. They had already given up on their operation when Jimin told them he was married”, he countered.

“Hate to disagree, but Yoongi hyung is right, jagiya”, Kim Namjoon, Seokjin’s husband said, making Yoongi smirk in victory and Seokjin scoff.

Park Jimin watched the three of them squabble from his kitchen, where he was sorting out the snacks, while Kim Taehyung, his best friend, hung off his shoulders like a koala.

“Should we tell them to distribute the bet money equally?” Taehyung asked as Jimin pulled out the microwaved bowl of popcorn and set it on counter.

“Don’t. They’re extremely serious about this, even Jungkookie.”

Taehyung’s eyes found his boyfriend, who was carrying two six pack beers to the dining table. As soon as he sat down, Seokjin began voicing his earlier complaints loudly, the youngest listening intently, while Jung Hoseok joined them with another six pack beer.

“Hate to break it to you but someone did come to the conclusion before your declaration”, Jungkook declared, handing over his tablet to his hyungs, who pored into it, as if it contained all the answers of the world.

@yoonmin: Dear Yoonminers,

S & A

@im_junho: have you considered the possibility that they might be married to one another?

There was a moment of silence before all hell broke lose. Seokjin was cackling madly while Yoongi was arguing that it was a guess not a conclusion, to which Jungkook argued that yes it was and if Yoongi hadn’t gone off and declared that they were already married the very next moment then maybe the students would’ve acted on this comment and came to conclusion on their own, to which Namjoon agreed and Yoongi was left rolling his eyes while Seokjin started dancing, and Hoseok almost fell over laughing at the situation.

“Do you think our students would ever obey us if they see us like this?” Taehyung questioned from Jimin’s shoulder and he laughed.

“I hope, for their sake, they never find out that their professors are such kids.”

He brought the snacks to the table, effectively shutting off the argument.

“Okay so how do we resolve this?” Hoseok asks, after they finish half of the snacks and drinks.

The seven of them have gathered at Yoongi and Jimin’s apartment for their traditional weekly movie nights and also to decide on the outcome of the bet, which came to an end after Yoongi’s confession of their relationship in social media, two weeks prior. To be very honest, Jimin had never loved the man more than he did at that moment when he saw the post. He was so glad he got to keep this man, this grumpy but secretly a softie man, all for himself and call him his.

“As per the decided terms we split it on the agreed ratio”, Namjoon said, scrolling through his phone to find the deed they he made 6 years ago, when all of this started.

“How is it fair that me and Jiminie get the lowest shares when it was ultimately my confession that actually ended it?” Yoongi grumbled while Jimin put a placating hand on his shoulder, and then turned to Namjoon.

“Can I evoke the mediator rights?” He asks sweetly and Yoongi looks at him, a bit amused. Namjoon gives him a cautious nod.

“As my position as the mediator from when the deal had been cut, I suggest all of us split the money equally, as was supposed to be if no favourable outcome could be decided”, Jimin declared calmly, making all of them groan and Yoongi laugh triumphantly.

“Yah, Park Jimin, just because you’re cute and you have evoked your mediator rights, I’m letting you go”, Seokjin complains, even though he’s smiling fondly at them and Jimin laughs.

As they file into the living room, deciding which movie to watch and Yoongi goes to check on Haein, who had been put to sleep an hour ago, Jimin finds himself in the kitchen with Namjoon.

“We’re thinking of adopting”, Namjoon says while drying the dishes and Jimin squeals.

“That is such an amazing news, hyung. You and Seokjin hyung would make such great parents.”

Namjoon smiles, “Thank you, Jimin-ah. I meant it, you know, back then. That you were perfect for hyung. You really are.”

Jimin smiles, recalling the spring afternoon all those years ago, when a young Kim Namjoon had told a crying Park Jimin that he was the best thing that had ever happened to Min Yoongi. All of that seems so far away now.

“Joonie, come see how cute Haeinnie looks while sleeping”, Seokjin’s voice breaks both of them out of their thoughts and Namjoon smiles at Jimin before following his husband out of the kitchen and into the kid’s bedroom. Jimin finishes drying the rest of the dishes and soon feels a strong pair of arms wrap around him.

“Joon and Jin hyung are adopting”, he tells his husband, who hums a response on his neck.

“Good for them. The kid’s gonna be spoiled rotten though, and would have a terrible personality, thanks to Jin hyung.”

Jimin pinched his hips playfully and Yoongi bit his earlobe, earning a breathless giggle from the younger.

“Can you both stop defiling each other in the kitchen and join us on the couch? The movie is starting”, Jungkook drawled as he walked into the kitchen, eyes closed.

“Yah kid! You’re the one to talk. As if we haven’t caught you defiling Taehyung in your kitchen countless of times”, Yoongi counters, making the youngest blush.

“When are you going to propose to him, huh?” Jimin asks, waggling his eyebrows.

“I did”, Jungkook confesses, “not with a ring yet. I plan on doing that soon, don’t worry. It’s just, I’ve been planning on proposing him for the past few weeks and three nights ago, I was too tired and didn’t realise I had blurted it out when Tae was going on about his day, until he stopped speaking. And when I started apologising for not doing it properly he just asked me to shut up and that of course he would marry me.”

Jimin whooped while Yoongi have Jungkook a knowing smile, making the youngest blush.

“Well, I want to see the ring next week when we crash at your place”, Jimin warns and Jungkook nods his head, still smiling shyly.

They walked out of the kitchen, Jungkook first, with Yoongi and Jimin following behind. Everyone had settled cosily on the couch, with Jungkook and Taehyung taking up the love seat, which left the arm chair for Yoongi and Jimin. Yoongi sat first, pulling Jimin on his lap, who cuddled him and began watching the movie. Yoongi pressed a small kiss on his temple and snuggled closer to his husband and Jimin began carding his fingers through the older’s hair.

“How much do you wanna bet that the students have no idea their Art professor and Coach have been dating since their college days and are about to get married?” Jimin whispers to an already sleepy Yoongi, halfway through the movie.

“Whatever I won today”, Yoongi whispered, smirk evident in his voice. Jimin smiles and pulls him in for a kiss.

“You’re on.”
