He had envisioned what their first time might look like so many times. Soft sheets or perhaps his furs laid out by the shores of the crystal lake where they could look up at the twinkling gems that coated the cavern ceiling. He would take him there, braid the bead into his hair, and profess everything he had thought since he first met him. Promise him an easy life of happiness and comfort filled with everything he could ever want. He heard Bilbo speak again.
“I don't want you to die. I can’t watch it happen again. I promise I’m alright with it. I can turn around so you don't have to see my face, and I’ll be quiet so you c-can pretend it’s someone else you would rather be with. When this is all over, I’ll leave Erebor forever, so you don't have to be reminded of how low you were forced to sink. Please, anything not to watch you die again.”
