Work Text:
Toge rarely gets sick. His technique has him downing throat medicine most of the time, so he takes pride in his healthy immune system.
Until he woke up with his head fuzzy and limbs heavy.
He groaned, turning in his bed, he hadn't been sick in ages and forgot how hellish it was. But he didn't want to lay in bed all day, he had an important solo mission in the morning.
He knew that if word got out, everyone would force him to stay in bed and eat soup.
Sitting up made his head throb more, he took a deep breath in before opening his eyes and getting ready for the day. His movements were sluggish, not wanting to jostle his head more as he got dressed.
Toge managed to stay conscious while getting ready, now he had to steel himself for the trip into the living room, hoping no one would notice he was ill. He hated– affectionately – how perceptive his classmates were.
Opening the door let the hallway light flood into the room, making him groan again with how his head pounded. He made his way down the hall to the living room, he thanked whatever god was out there that his classmates weren't out of their rooms yet.
Toge quickly made use of it and went straight to the bathroom, looking for some sort of headache medicine. He sighed happily, finding a bottle in the medicine cabinet, He downed it like how he would with his throat medicine and prayed it worked quickly.
After getting the medicine in him, he knew logically he had to eat something, but his stomach churned at the thought of it. He’ll just take something small with him on the mission and eat it when he feels better.
Toge left the bathroom, bumping into someone on the way out, unsurprisingly, it made his vision swim.
“Inumaki!” The too loud voice said.
Toge bit back a groan, forcing a smile, “Konbu.”
He didn’t have to look up to know it was Yuuta he walked into, he had gotten very familiar with his voice.
“Good morning,” he chuckled sheepishly, “Sorry for bumping into you, I’m still half asleep.” Yuuta yawned, proving his point.
Toge shook his head and smiled, brushing it off, “Okaka.” He was glad Yuuta wasn't paying attention to his hoarse voice.
He stepped out of the way so the other could pass, and made his way to the kitchen. His stomach still turned at the thought of food, but at least he knew he should stay hydrated.
The rest of the time preparing to leave went by in a haze, he greeted the rest of his classmates and had to reassure Ijichi that he was fine when he insisted he looked pale.
He barely felt himself fighting the cursed, head too foggy to form coherent thoughts. But before he knew it, he was back in the car leaving the scene with a mission well done.
Toge laid his burning head onto the window of the car, the turns jostled his head making it worse. He managed not to groan or let out any noise of discomfort, even though Ijichi was already making a call to his teacher.
They arrived at the steps of Jujutsu Tech. Ijichi quickly made his way out of the car to Toge’s door.
“Okaka.” Toge said, voice struggling to come out with how sore his throat was.
Ijichi frowned, “Okkotsu is already on his way here, I told Gojo to let them know you’re sick.”
Toge couldn’t manage another word, instead he just glared.
He heard footsteps approaching from the steps. Toge quickly pushed the driver out of the way to stand up out of the car.
“Konbu.” Toge tried saying as cheery as possible, still wanting to feign his health.
As Yuuta approached, his frown got deeper.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were sick?” Yuuta questioned, basically running up to him.
Toge didn’t want to prove his point more by talking and risking a coughing attack so he signed I was feeling fine this morning. I’ll get some rest now.
The others frown didn’t leave his face, eyes scanning him from head to toe, “I don’t believe you.”
It was Toge’s turn to frown, he just wanted to get into his room and take a nap to get rid of this headache. He took a deep breath in, raising his hands to rebut Yuuta, but the breath of air made his vision spin.
He couldn’t stop his knees from buckling underneath him and his world turning upside down.
Yuuta yelped as he saw Toge fall to the ground. Luckily he was quick enough to put his hands in between his head and the pavement.
“Please get some medicine ready, Ijichi-san, I can take him to his room.” Yuuta bit his lip trying to distract himself by thinking of how to help the sick boy.
The driver made a noise of confirmation and headed inside. Yuuta wasted no time in placing his hands under Toge’s knees and shoulders, lifting him up. He knew Toge was the most agile out of them, but it still worried him how light the other felt.
He rolled his shoulders to get rid of unnecessary thoughts, and headed the same way Ijichi did.
He practically burst the front door down trying to get to Toge’s room. He made his way quickly around the dorms and into Toge’s room. When he finally entered, Yuuta placed the now burning boy onto his bed. Yuuta carefully placed his hand on Toge's forehead, jumping slightly when he felt how hot it was.
Before Yuuta could panic, Ijichi entered the room with a small knock. His hands were full of medicine and water, “Have him take this when he wakes up, I have to give his report to the higher ups.”
Yuuta nodded and thanked him graciously.
It was quiet when he left, save for Toge’s labored breathing, which made Yuuta wring his hands anxiously.
It felt like hours passed before Toge cracked open his eyes, letting out a groan.
Yuuta jumped up from where he was sitting on the bed, rushing to grab the glass of water. He helped Toge sit up with a hand on his back, “Takana.” the other said, voice sounding better than how it was before.
Yuuta sighed, handing the water to him and pouting when he took a drink, “You had me really worried.”
It was Toge’s turn to frown. He set the glass down after drinking about half, and lifted his hands to get his point across better, It was only a small headache this morning.
Yuuta made a face at him, “You still shouldn’t have gone on that mission, Gojo-sensei would have let you skip.”
Toge sighed, coughing into his elbow, I didn’t think it would get that bad, I’m sorry.
The curse user looked into his eyes, Toge stared back.
Eventually, Yuuta gave up and hung his head, “No…I’m sorry, I shouldn't be mad at you,”
He paused, running a hand over his face, he looked back up to continue his sentence, but hands beat him to it, because you would've done the same thing?
Yuuta paused, staring at his hands. When the words registered in his head, he burst out laughing.
Yuuta nodded between his giggles, “Yes, yes you're absolutely right, I’m sorry.”
Toge chuckled alongside him, smiling at him fondly. Even though they were on the borderline of an argument, they could never really be mad at each other. They knew what the other was thinking at all times, even the stupid ideas they had, like going on a mission while sick.
“Here,” Yuuta turned to the bedside table, “Take this, Ijichi-san brought it,” he handed Toge the medicine, “I’ll make you something to eat with it.” he smiled.
Toge smiled back, nodding his head while taking the medicine, “Shake.”
