Ruby comforts Chelsea

Summary:

Ruby comforts Chelsea after a confrontation with her mother, Nerissa.

I wrote another Ruby and Chelsea fanfic a day after my last one.

Work Text:

Ruby hated Nerissa. She hated her more than anyone else in the sea. But It wasn't solely because of her narcissism, ego, vile personality, and overall unpleasantness. While those were valid reasons to dislike her, for Ruby, it was more personal. Nerissa had hurt her wife, Chelsea, a long time ago.

Ruby and Chelsea were at home hanging out. They partied, invited some friends over, watched some movies, and drank until they passed out. Later that day, when everyone had left, and the two were sober, they chatted on the couch. Their conversations were friendly at first. They talked about work and their kids and gossiped about the town residents. The topic suddenly turned to Nerissa.

"I ran into Mom today," Chelsea said.

Ruby's mood suddenly turned sour when Chelsea brought her up.

"What did she do this time, Ruby asked.

"I tried to reason with her, Chelsea said. Begged her to accept my choice of being with you. But she didn't want to hear it."

Ruby clenched her fists. How could a mother be so cruel? Ruby's mom was hesitant when she first announced her engagement to Chelsea. But she learned to see past the fact that her daughter's fiancee was a mermaid and just be happy for her, especially after seeing that the two of them love each other very much.

"Mom said she didn't want anything to do with me, Chelsea continued. That I lost the right to even speak to her. After... I betrayed her and all my people to be with you. She said I was unworthy to be called her daughter."

Upon hearing this, Ruby's temper reached a boiling point. How dare that wretched woman shame Chelsea for making the right call. For choosing to follow her heart.

Chelsea tried her best not to tear up. It was hard to discuss this topic even with her best friend turned wife. Ruby comforted her.

"It's okay, Chelsea. Despite her poor treatment of you, I know it's not easy to turn against your own mother."

Chelsea wiped away some tears. "I know. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought her up. I know you especially aren't fond of her."

Ruby calmed down and sighed. It was true. Nerissa hated Ruby, blaming her for supposedly turning Chelsea against her. To Nerissa, Ruby only married Chelsea to get her to abandon her pursuit of vengeance and to manipulate her into being a trophy wife. These accusations disgusted Ruby.

"You don't have to apologize Chelsea. You can always talk to me when you're feeling down."

Chelsea gave Ruby a soft smile. "Thanks, Ruby. I wish things were different. I hope that someday Mom will change and accept my choice."

"I hope so too, Chel. But no matter what happens, I'll always love you."

The two kissed and stayed on the couch together until they drifted off to sleep.
