The Trouble with Baby Names

Summary:

Jason and Dick face one of the greatest enemies during pregnancy…baby name websites

Work Text:

“What about Catherine?” Dick looked up from the screen, “If it’s a girl?”

Jason shook his head, “No, I love my mom but I don’t want her history on my kit. What about your parents?”

“No, I don’t think I could manage it. Bruce’s parents were Martha and Timothy.”

“One we already have a Tim in the family and really if I was going to name it after a grandparent it would be Alfred but the press would be all over that.”

Dick frowned before nodding, “So no family names, what about the ones Damian recommended?”

“I’m not naming my kid warrior in Arabic.”

“Fathiyya was triumph for a girl.”

“And have no one be able to pronounce it? And it’s not like there’s a good nickname instead.”

Dick grinned, “We could always go with Robin, I mean it’s pretty common in Gotham.”

“No,” Jason glared at him, “It’s going to be hard enough to keep them out of a cape without naming them after one.”

Dick sighed, slumping back on the couch, “Why are names so hard? There’s hundreds of name sites but nothing seems to stick out.” When Jason didn’t respond he gave him a concerned look, “Jason?”

Jason stared at the screen of his phone, not scrolling through a page, “What about Fennix for a boy and Starlina for a girl?” Jason flushed looking away, “Fennix is phoenix and Starlina is songbird in Romani, right? It sticks to the bird theme.”

All but lunging across the couch Dick pulled Jason into a kiss only pulling back enough to speak between them, “That’s perfect. I mean Fennix is also dark red and Starlina is star but yeah, they’d be perfect.”

“I’m glad you agree but you're telling Damian that we didn’t pick any of his choices.”

Dick groaned sitting back, “Great.”

Jason rolled his eyes, “Just tell him we went with Romani and the bird theme cause your mom called you Robin so we stuck to the bird theme. He’ll grumble but eventually get over himself.”

Dick sighed, “Right, he’ll understand family.”

Jason grinned, “He’ll just try to name the next kid.”

“Great,” Dick slumped before packing up looking at Jason, “Next one?”

Jason flushed, “Well yeah, I want them to have siblings,” He rubbed the back of his neck. “I mean I wouldn’t mind adopting but I want at least two.” Jason avoided looking at Dick waiting for his reaction.

“As long as we don’t pass B in numbers I’m good, all for however many you want.”

“Sounds good, you want me to make up lunch?”

“You mean heat up the leftovers? Yeah I think my so-called morning sickness will let me hold down something now.”

“Soup it is!”
