Chapter Text
Barry sighed leaning back in his chair, “So we need to find a ‘True Life Giver.’” He motioned the quotation marks with his hands, “Anybody have any clue what that is?”
Diana frowned, “Obviously Life Giver means either a woman or an omega, but what could the True part be?”
Clark tilted his head, “They said something about life without blood, could they be talking about adoption? But then why would they be considered a life giver to the pup?”
“Breastfeeding!” Barry’s chair rocked forward until all four legs were on the ground, “We need someone whose adopted a pup while they still needed breast milk, aka life giving, as the pup wouldn’t be able to make it without it.”
Diana frowned, “Then we need someone who adopted a second pup while their blood kin either no longer needed or didn’t need breastmilk but the dam was still producing milk to sustain them. That won’t be easy to find.”
Hal shook his head, “Omega’s can produce milk even without having a pup. It’s pretty common for one to produce milk during a familial heat, but it’s not uncommon during a normal heat either.”
Barry hummed, “Some female betas and most female alphas have trouble producing enough milk for their own pups so our best bet is an omega that found a pup and took it in when it was young enough to still need breast milk.”
Clark tapped his fingers on the table, “We can’t just bring any omega fitting those criteria in. We can’t be certain the Astians aren’t a threat or wouldn’t prove a threat to the omega.”
Diana sighed, “We also need someone who can keep a level head and we can get to understand what to do if the Astiansrefuse to actually listen to us and they have to speak on behalf of the people of Earth.”
“Right,” Barry rubbed his face, “Anyone know an omega that adopted a pup when it still needed breastfeeding, is someone we can trust to be able to protect or at least act in a way for us to protect them and is capable of being a diplomat for all of Earth?”
Clark frowned, “I don’t think we need an actual diplomat, just someone to convince the Astians to actually speak with us as we are the ones with experience interacting with alien races.”
“Right, capable of getting a race of aliens that refuses to talk with anyone but a ‘True Life Giver’ to talk with one of us. Any ideas because I got nothing. We going to send out some sort of message to the world to find someone who manages to fit these criteria?”
Clark turned his head as Bruce pulled up a small screen in front of him, “Batman? Do you have an idea?”
Bruce nodded frowning, “I… know someone who fits the criteria.”
Barry blinked, “Okay, I know you're always prepared but that is freaky.”
Bruce grunted typing in a number and sat back waiting for it to go through. The rest of the league watched as the screen popped up showing a normal looking, if very clean apartment. “Red Hood.”
The league shared bewildered looks, what was Batman doing contacting a known, violent, crime lord.
A face with a red domino on it appeared on screen, “What the hell old man? Can’t you call like a normal person! Hacking my laptop so you can talk to me face-to-face is so past okay it fucking got lost and stabbed in the back in an alley. This is my nest! You don’t just video call into my nest! What if I’d been naked!”
“The earth is under threat.”
“Then call and ask!”
“You don’t pick up the phone when I call.”
“This is why! You know I pick up for O, you should have called her and had her put you through!”
Bruce grimaced, “Time is limited.”
“So, you couldn’t take the what thirty seconds to go through Oracle? This is my nest asshole! I made it clear you aren’t welcome here! Why do you think a face-to-face call over my laptop would be something you could do!”
“Um,” Barry looked at the screen, “Sorry, I don’t, I mean you, can you yell at him later?” He gulped as Jason’s attention shifted to him, the omegan growl making him desperately want to hide behind his chair, “Which you so should do!” He threw up his hands to try and defend himself, somehow worried the omega would manage to get through the screen to him, “But we do have an alien invasion to stop!”
Jason’s domino moved as if he was closing his eyes and breathed a few times to calm himself down before sitting in the chair in front of the laptop and looking at the league through the screen, “I’m a vigilante slash crime lord, why are you contacting me about this? I’m not exactly high on anyone’s list of people to reach out to in case of emergency.”
Clark cleared his throat, “The aliens are demanding to talk to a, uh, True Life Giver or they are going to attack.”
“A what?”
Diana tapped the table, “We believe that they mean an omega that raised a pup that wasn’t theirs, by blood, from infanthood when breastfeeding would be necessary for the pup to survive. Batman called you after we discussed we would also need that person to be either capable of defending themselves or act in a way to allow us to if the meeting doesn’t go well, as well as being able to convince them to speak with the league directly.”
Jason snorted, “Wow, you must really be short on options if B decided to contact me.”
Barry frowned, “Is it really? I mean,” he gestured at the screen where Jason still had his armed chest piece on, “I’m guessing you’re an omega in his pack if you’re wearing that, wouldn’t it make sense to reach out to you? I mean, obviously you can defend yourself.”
Jason rolled his eyes crossing his arms, “I’m the only omega of the pack and daddy dearest doesn’t appreciate that I kill people that hurt kits. Doesn’t matter it’s legally my right to kill someone I find brutalizing a kit or have proof of them hurting kits in my pack’s territory. Doesn’t matter if they’re traffickers, child molesters or murderers, killing is wrong.” Jason said the end in a mocking manner.
Diana frowned, “Unfortunately I must insist we move this along, the Astians have only given us three hours to find a representative to talk with them. We need you to come to the Watchtower to be briefed on the situation and what we need you to do.”
“Well, we have a bit of a problem then.”
“Why?”
“I made my stance very clear, until B pulls that stick out of his ass I’m not going anywhere near him, nor are any of the kits if I can help it.”
Clark blinked, “Stick?”
“Yeah a fucking big one.”
Diana sighed, “Can you make an exception? Just for today? We are dealing with a very dangerous situation.”
Jason scoffed, “All the bastard has to do is apologize to Nightwing for hitting him when they were arguing. I don’t even care if he means it. As soon as he says ‘I apologize for hitting you during our argument’ to Nightwing I’m all good to help. Or,” Jason hummed, “I could give him another choice.”
Diana nodded, “Thank you.”
Jason turned until he was looking straight at Bruce, “Either you apologize to Nightwing for hitting him or I agree to come up,” his smile turned sharp, “And as soon as the alien threat is death with, I sever every bond between you and the pack.” He leaned back enjoying the stunned, and horrified silence, “Your call B, apologize to your eldest, or no longer have any of us.”
Gritting his teeth in the silence Batman pulled out a communicator, “Oracle, connect me to Nightwing.”
Jason smirked as he watched Bruce’s fist tightened around the table.
Oracle’s modulated voice came over the phone, switching it to speaker mode, “Nightwing is currently in his civilian identity. Do you still want to be put through?”
Bruce grit his teeth, “Yes.”
“One moment.”
A brief ringing occurred until the phone was picked up and before the person could speak Oracle spoke, “This is O, B needs you for something.”
Dick’s voice was calm, “B? There an emergency? Me and little D could get back in twenty minutes.”
“No,” Bruce rubbed his forehead, “I apologize for the other night, I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did during our disagreement.”
A snort came over the line, “Right disagreement. You need Little Wing for something then? I’ll have to thank him, even if you don’t mean it, it’s nice to hear you apologize.”
Batman grimaced, “Nightwing.”
“Oh, just so you know, I took Little D to the circus because your reason was stupid and Little Wing said to.”
“Robin was to remain home.”
“Yeah, yeah. You tried to ground him for defending himself but Little Wing said he wasn’t.”
“He acted rashly during patrol; the man he injured may still die.”
“No maybe. The only reason he’s still breathing is cause Jay hasn’t figured out how many pieces he’s going to end up in yet. That bastard put his hand on Little D, Jay’s kit, you really think he’s going to live long enough for the injuries D caused in self-defense to kill him? Now I need to go see how much cotton candy I can feed my baby brother before tricking him into riding the whirling wheel.” The line cut off.
Jason smiled, “Ended up deciding on two, shoved his cock down his throat when the cops ignored his previous arrests and let him loose. Not sure if he suffocated or bled to death first honestly.”
Diana ignored the statement deeming it unimportant, it wasn’t anything the man didn’t deserve, “Are you willing to come up now? We do need to discuss how we should handle the situation with the Astians.”
Jason nodded, reaching for something off screen, “I’ll suit back up again and head to the cave. Should be there in about thirty minutes.” Sliding a gun into one of his holsters Jason reached over and closed the laptop, effectively hanging up the call.
