Omni Punk: Rise of David 10

Summary:

It started when an alien device did what it did,
And stuck itself upon his wrist or secrets that it hid,
Now he's got super powers he's no ordinary kid,
He's David 10!

Work Text:

David's eyes fluttered open, the sterile whiteness of the hospital room coming into focus. The rhythmic beeping of machines was the only sound that pierced the silence, a reminder of the reality he found himself in. His body felt surprisingly whole, considering the events that led him to this hospital bed.

Memories of that fateful day flooded back – his mother's anxious voice, the routine drive home from school disrupted by chaos. A convoy to their right had fallen prey to the ambush of a ruthless gang, and to their left, a van armed with a bazooka had triggered a crossfire that ensnared them. The result: an unintended collision that landed them both in the hospital.

David's mother, his pillar of strength, lay motionless in the room next door, ensnared in a coma's enigmatic grasp. It was a cruel twist of fate, the kind that turned the world upside down. His grandfather, Maxwell Martinez, had stepped in, providing the financial cushion for top-notch medical treatment. David's recovery was swift, but his mother's condition remained precarious – the doctors spoke of a waiting game, a month or perhaps two, before any hope of her awakening.

The room felt both stifling and empty without his mother's presence. David's gaze drifted to the window, the city's relentless hustle and bustle beyond the glass a stark contrast to the sterile calm within. He knew that life outside these walls was equally treacherous – a cyberpunk metropolis dominated by enhancements and shadows.

And then, like a beacon of familiarity, a knock on the door heralded the entrance of his grandfather. Maxwell Martinez, an elderly man with a subtle hint of extra weight that was countered by an underlying strength, strode into the room. Dressed in blue pants and an eye-catching red and orange Hawaiian floral button-up shirt, Grandpa Max exuded an aura of unwavering support.

"David," Grandpa Max's voice held a blend of comfort and concern, "How are you holding up, my boy?"

David met his grandfather's gaze, gratitude filling his heart. "I'm... doing okay, Grandpa. It's just hard, you know?"

A knowing smile touched Grandpa Max's lips as he settled into the chair beside David's bed. "Life has a way of throwing curveballs, but we Martinez's are made of strong stuff. Your mom's a fighter, and you've got that same fire in you."

David's lips twitched into a small smile, and says "Yeah, I guess your right."

With a gentle pat on David's shoulder, Grandpa Max rose from his seat. "Well, it's high time we got you out of this place. Hospitals aren't exactly the best environment for recovery."

David nodded, a mixture of relief and trepidation coursing through him. "You're right, Grandpa."

Maxwell Martinez, the anchor in David's life, extended a steady hand. "Come on, let's get you out of here."

The journey back home was a blur of city lights and blurred faces, a reminder that life outside the hospital was as relentless as ever. Grandpa Max's RV, affectionately known as the Rustbucket, stood like a sentinel in the hospital parking lot. Its worn appearance belied the adventures it had seen, a testament to the family legacy it carried.

Climbing into the RV felt like stepping into a world of familiarity. The hum of the engine, the creak of the seats, all held a sense of comfort. David settled into the passenger seat, and as the Rustbucket rumbled to life, they pulled out onto the bustling streets.

The drive home was filled with silence, the weight of unspoken emotions resting between them. Grandpa Max's unwavering presence was a balm to David's wounded spirit. They navigated the neon-lit streets, weaving through the labyrinth of alleys that defined their world.

Eventually, they arrived at their destination – a modest apartment complex nestled amidst the towering structures of the city. It was a far cry from the sprawling mansion of David's dreams, but it was home nonetheless.

Grandpa Max parked the RV, and with a sigh, he turned to David. "Here we are. Home sweet home."

David offered a small smile, gratitude shining in his eyes. "Thanks, Grandpa, for everything."

With a reassuring nod, Grandpa Max reached into his pocket and pulled out a wad of eddies. "I know times are tough, and you've got more on your plate than most. Here's 300,000 eddies. Use them for rent, food, utilities – whatever you need. Take care of yourself, David."

David accepted the eddies with a mix of appreciation and humility. "I will, Grandpa. Thank you."

Maxwell Martinez patted David's shoulder, his voice firm yet gentle. "Take care of yourself bud."

With a final nod, David stepped out of the RV and watched as his grandfather drove off into the night, the Rustbucket's taillights fading into the distance.

Meanwhile, just outside the Earths atmosphere...

The expanse of space was alive with the fury of battle. A gargantuan battle cruiser loomed, its colossal frame painted in the hues of conquest. In stark contrast, a lone small spaceship darted through the void, pursued relentlessly by the cruiser's relentless assault. Lasers and projectiles streaked, leaving trails of light in their wake.

The scene shifted inside the belly of the battle cruiser, a place where shadows held dominion. A synthesized AI computer voice cut through the tension, reporting grim news, "Hull damage: 20%, but the systems are still operational."

From within the shadows, a deep, ominous voice resonated, rich with malevolence and ambition. "I have come too far to be denied. The Omnitrix shall be mine, and there is not a being in the galaxy that dares stand in my way."

"Achoo!" His gaze darted around, half in jest. "Is someone talking about me?"

His attention then fell upon an unexpected development. As if his sneeze had triggered an event, a hidden compartment beneath the table had sprung open. With a mixture of curiosity and surprise, David peered inside to find a suitcase. His eyes widened as he lifted the case and read the label: Sandevistan.

The device within the case held an aura of mystery, an enigma waiting to be unraveled. It stretched about the length of a person's spine, its surface an obsidian black adorned with green circle lights that seemed to pulse with a hidden power.

The hum of David's homemade supercomputer filled the room as he connected the enigmatic device he had found. His fingers danced over the keyboard, the glow of the screen reflecting in his eyes. "Alright, let's see what you're all about."

Text scrolled across the monitor, unveiling the specifications of the device. David's eyes widened as he read the analysis. "A prototype military-grade speed and reflexes enhancer... attached to the user's spine." His eyebrows furrowed, thoughts racing as he delved deeper. "Powerful enough to potentially drive even the most hardened veteran insane... Sheesh, this thing's no joke."

The green circle lights on the device seemed to pulse in response, almost as if acknowledging the scrutiny. David snapped a quick picture, uploading it to his supercomputer's database. A search initiated, scouring the internet and the dark web for any related information.

Before long, a ping of recognition echoed through the room, drawing David's attention. His eyes narrowed as he reviewed a brain dance holo vid – a grim scene of a cyberpsycho laying waste to a group of MaxTac agents. The memory of the brutal event flashed in his mind, and there it was – a device identical to the one he held, down to the serial number etched on the side.

A chilling realization settled in: the Sandevistan he held had once adorned the back of a fallen cyberpsycho. Questions swirled, and David's mind raced, trying to connect the dots. How had it gone from that brutal scene to a hidden compartment under his dining table? The inexplicable shift from a scene of violence to his mundane reality left him grappling for answers.

The loud rumble of his stomach broke the spell of his thoughts. David couldn't help but chuckle at the timing. "Guess answers can wait, huh?" he muttered to himself. He pushed his chair back from the supercomputer, rising to his feet.

Back with the space battle

In the cold expanse of space, the battle continued to rage. The synthesized AI voice reported, "Their propulsion systems have been destroyed."

A commanding voice cut through the tension, cold and determined. "Prepare to board. I want the Omnitrix now."

Back on Earth...

David's thoughts were still a whirlwind of questions when a sudden text message appeared on his cyberoptics. The caller ID showed it to be his main tormentor at school – Katsuo. He debates whether or not to look at the message and eventually decided to get it over with.

"Don't be a wuss David" he says to himself and checks his messages and finds that Katsuo had sent him a recorded message and hits play.

The recording started, Katsuo's voice dripping with malice and cruelty. "Katsuo here. I heard about your mom. I could offer my sympathies, but find it hard to sympathize. God only knows what she had to endure to send her delinquent son to an Academy he doesn't belong at. Her methods couldn't have been noble if she died in a car accident. So mundane. But you know? Karma. There's a lesson in this, David. Your mother tried to live beyond her means and died. Don't make the same mistake."

Rage ignited within David, a fire that threatened to consume him. He clenched his fists, his knuckles white with the force of his emotions. A decision formed in his mind, an impulsive one, but one that he couldn't ignore any longer.

David, after asking around on the Internet about where to find a morally reasonable Ripperdoc, finds his way to Misty's Esoterica. Upon entering he sees a polish woman manning the front counter. "Hello welcome to my shop, how can I help?" David says "I was told a Ripperdoc named Viktor works here?" The woman looks at him and says "The old timer doesn't work here, but he has his own digs just behind my shop, I just happen to be friends with him." She waves to David to follow her and she opens the back door and leads him to another door in the alley behind the Esoterica. "Viktor should be in, he only leaves for supply runs and the occasional boxing match." David thanks her and walks in.

Viktor Vector, the Ripperdoc, acknowledged David with a nod. "Here for your first Cyberware implant?"

David says to him "Yes, and you don't have to provide the implant, I've got one with me."

Viktor raises an eyebrow at this and says "well that's fine and all, but before I can begin the procedure I need to do a brief examination to see where your Cyberware compatibility stands."

"Fine with me"

"Good, now get on the operating table so I can put you under for the examination."
