Hello everyone!
I was very saddened by the way Cyberpunk: Edgerunners ended. We had some very tragic moments, which were extremely well written, but still, one can hope for a good ending.
If one is not provided by the creators, one can write their own. This is what I wish to share with you.This fanfic inserts a new character, Kael, in the moment Maine turns cyberpsycho, but before MaxTac arrives.
Kael is heavily inspired by the Ghosts and Protoss tech from Star Craft series.
The story explores how Kael's presence would change the outcome of this encounter and eventually the whole timeline.
Since my motivation is to write an ending in which the main characters do not die, you are welcome to believe there will be an eventual happy ending.Disclaimer:

Whole blocks torn away from the comfort of their ever-present distractions. The mayor has already addressed this as ‘faulty wiring’, barely comforting whatever unease the city has had.

Beyond the Blackwall was the domain of gods and monsters. So it has always been, ever since the disaster known as the DataKrash sundered the Net and reduced the world to a shadow of its former glory. Netwatch knew this, and so did the governments and megacorps. And so for a time no one dared to overstep their bounds, knowing what waited on the other side.
But time diminishes all memories, and eventually humanity looked towards that forbidden realm once again. Who cared if those that lurked behind could bring about another apocalypse when there were riches to be found?
Someone was bound to make a mistake eventually. And so a being built to fight wars for a long defunct megacorp followed the path that had been foolishly opened for it to the other side of the Blackwall.
They say that there are no happy endings in Night City. Does that saying apply to things that were never human to begin with?

NB: I have crossposted this story to Royalroad under the title System Override.
A forced experimental drug treatment at an early age has saddled David with an immense burden.
His mother’s insistence on his current lifepath as a corpo has done much the same.
David is a speeding ball of fire hurtling towards an unknown destination, and his mother’s death has left him adrift and unsure of his direction.
So he does what any teenager with no more fucks left to give does—he chips in some mil-spec chrome and looks for a quick way to earn edds, all the while learning to utilize the nanotechnology that had been forced on him as a child—finding out the immense potential within him as a result.
Corpo or Edgerunner? Why not both? And why not the best of both while we’re fucking at it?
