A retelling of the original NES Final Fantasy game's story but with Pokemon and a heavy dose of Gen 1. Wol stands in for the unnamed protagonists of both series, a man who prefers a pokeball and shield over a weapon of his own. This chapter retells the starting stages of FF1 which will be very familiar to anybody who has passing knowledge of the game. Still, here's hoping that you'll find surprises and intrigue despite the familiar tale. And some thrilling pokemon battles too!

This fic is conceived as a draft for a gothic novel that will later be rewritten into my own original setting and prepared for print.
It’s inspired by the neo-gothic vibes of Lovecraft and Lukyanenko, and in terms of narration sometimes echoes Milton, Poe, Clark Ashton Smith, Anne Rice, and Clive Barker: pseudo-archaic language, body horror, psychological abuse, and religious motifs woven into a single story of dependence and cult.
