Chapter Text

Outside the Nurse Office’s windows, pandaemonium struck. Torrents of water screamed in anguish against glass as the Supreme Overlord of Ice casually brushed his espeon’s fine, delicate fur. Having previously predicted the thunderstorm and warned her master about it, she resigned herself to getting pampered. Her umbreon brother, however, watched the wicked spectacle, paws over the windowsill and tail wagging giddily like the impish fiend he was.

It was a quiet day, with most of the Uva Academy students locked away at their own dorms instead of loitering around the yard, so it came as unexpected when, as thunderous as the storm outside, the door was opened and a sopping wet figure came in. Gundham and espeon had both taken notice of the enormous guy before them: a full winter academy uniform that did nothing to hide his sheer size, long dark green hair and worried red eyes behind round glasses looking at something he carried in his big hands. Umbreon seemed to think lightning striking outside was more interesting, however.

“Please, help,” the guy said and Gundham finally recognised Gokuhara’s desperate voice under the wet mop of hair. “She’s injured. Lightning strike.”

Gokuhara presented his palms and the small spinarak that shivered both from the cold and the electric current still running in her body. Gundham quickly took the pokémon and proceeded to treat it. Espeon aided him by bringing down the basket of cheri berries with Psychic but soon left him to sit by the window with umbreon. Gundham had no trouble feeding the spinarak the healing berries, nor applying potions on her bruises. With enough rest, she’d be as good as new.

“The descendant of Great Weaver Arachne will prevail, so long she lays reposed and patient in her web,” announced Gundham grandly, and Gokuhara’s stiff posture seemed to relax.

“Thank you, Tanaka.” Gokuhara smiled warmly, eyes shining. It was not the first time a harmed bug was brought for Gundham to heal, but he was still getting used to the bright gentleness of Gokuhara, so he still hid his disconcerted face in his scarf. “Gonta’ll bring her to the other bug friends once she recovers!”

“Will you keep her?”

“If she wants to…” Gokuhara turned to look at the resting spinarak, a tender gleam in his eyes as he watched her sleep. “There’s enough space!”

Gundam doubted a little, knowing the reputation of his boxes filled to the brim with bug pokémon, but seeing Gokuhara’s candid smile on his lips, he knew at least there was enough space in that heart.
