DESCRIPTION:
On April 14th, 2024 of the New Mollusk Era, At 1:54 am, Male Inkling "Kinta Obera" appeared at Station #13 to report the missing person.
Kinta Obera has identified as a friend of Missing Person "Onata Mermaid." According to their description, both had planned to camp within Eastern Nantai Forest for "A night, maybe two" before they were caught in heavy rain. During this time, Kinta became separated from Missing Person Onata Mermaid. Witness reports searching in the forest to the best of their ability for approximately an hour (by their description, unsure of specific time frame) before a reported near-miss with a thunder strike caused them to become too agitated to continue. They proceeded to exit the forest as best as they could by "picking a direction and going" before being able to see the lights of Inkopolis, which they followed until finding a road and hitch-hiking back to the city (The individual who had given the ride has since been identified as Persa Tida, Koi.) Kinta immediately came to the police station upon returning to Inkopolis.
Onata Mermaid has no guardians on record. Contact with their workplace, Irontide Manufacturing, has provided emergency contacts. Kinta Obera was included on this list, as was Sophia Ein, A Female Inkling who reportedly did not participate in the camping trip due to hylophobia. Irontide Manufacturing Contact confirmed she had filed for a vacation day after their two days off, presumably for a camping trip.
At time of writing, April 18th 2024, there have been no recorded sightings of the missing person. Search is still ongoing, and planned to continue until the 22nd of this month.
NOTES:
- Currently no foul play is suspected. However, Captain Tailor has still asked for potential subjects due to other unresolved reports of missing persons in that area in previous years.
- Kinta Obera is currently the only prime suspect, but this is considered highly unlikely due to them filing their report.
- Both Persa Tida and Sophia Ein have alibis.
- Due to the Octarian/Inkling International Truce, Signed September 9th 2022, and due to the proximity of the missing person's location to Octarian Borders, their governing body has been informed of the search parties. Due to the potential risk of Onata Mermaid being a defector however, the Octarian Government has not been informed of the missing person in question. So far, the Octarian Government has been cordial. As the investigation currently sees no reason to search over the border, there is not believed to be any future issue.
- Due to the Octarian/Inkling International Truce, foul play of the Octarian government is considered highly unlikely.
