Work Text:
It was late. You'd gotten lost in the facility for a little too long, incorrectly guessing what turn to take, having to backtrack more than once.
The coil-head definitely hadn't helped your sense of direction.
But as the entrance doors closed behind you, sealing the inside horrors away, you let out a long heavy sigh of relief, body sagging as the exhaustion hit you.
Just a little farther, and you’d be home free.
You almost didn't notice it, in the dim moonlight, too focused on the dangers inside to take in the outdoors. A breath, too heavy to be your own, followed by the sound of sniffing.
You turned away from the door, to come face to face with an Eyeless Dog, just an inch away. You could see the saliva dripping off its fangs before its warm breath fogged up your visor, obscuring your vision.
You didn’t dare move, hoping its keen ears didn't hear your heart pounding away in your ribcage.
It sniffed the air once more, as you silently prayed for it to go away. But there was no one to answer you, as its face brushed against your suit, feeling it press against you as it sniffed once more.
Did you dare move, try to make a bolt for it, throw yourself inside in hopes there wasn't something waiting just inside for you? Or would teeth tear into you first?
In your idle terror, the choice was made for you, as it opened its mouth wide and swallowed you whole. The silence was broken as you screamed, plunged into constricting darkness, as it quickly and easily gobbled you up, throwing its head back as the rest of you disappeared inside.
It wasn’t long before you slid into its wide stomach, the organ easily fitting you, and by the feel of it, enough space to fit the rest of your team inside too. You gasped and whimpered, disoriented and afraid, trying to get your bearings in the darkness.
The only light was the HUD on your visor. To your relief, there was no damage you hadn't noticed in the chaos, its teeth never found your flesh. A mercy.
You had been devoured, but whole. Still alive.
The adrenaline left you as you realized there would be no escape, none you could bring yourself. Either your coworkers would find a way to get you out, the dog would spit you out, or this would be your last hurrah.
The exhaustion hitting you in adrenaline’s absence, you laid down, the stomach walls cradling you as your fleshy prison began to swing.
Oh, it was moving.
You could hear a bit of liquid sloshing around inside, relieved your suit was waterproof enough to not have it leak in. The organ around you gurgled, its alien lungs and heartbeat joining the organic symphony, as you laid there and listened.
It was oddly comfortable, if you ignored the direness of your situation. Like a living hammock, the flesh soft, supporting your weary body comfortably, despite your clunky suit. The mild swing from its movement was soothing, and soon, you found your fear slipping away.
Nothing else could get you in your soft organic prison, you could finally relax.
You didn’t get to however, as the stomach suddenly constricted around you, shoving you upward and back into the tight throat.
Oh, option 2 it was then. Would've been nice if it had waited a little longer, let you enjoy its plush insides for a little longer.
Your vision was filled with light as you slid past its teeth, falling unceremoniously to the hard metal floor, dripping with saliva. You let out a groan, as you slowly got up, trying to reorient yourself and figure out where it had dropped you.
Wait a second, this was the ship!
Your view snapped upward to see your coworkers standing in front of you, one of them walking past your drool-soaked body to the dog behind you. You watched in utter bafflement as your buddy started to pet it, the dog sitting down as its tail wagged furiously.
What.
“Good boy, thank you for fetching them.”
Wait, they had intended for this to happen? You'd never been in danger?
Now you were really upset you hadn't been able to relax a little longer.
Regardless, you unsteadily found your way back onto your feet, tossing your collected scrap out of your pockets and onto the floor. Attempting to wipe the saliva away, you moved towards your coworker, and the very happy eyeless dog.
“Dude what the fuck.”
They turned to you, and you could see them grin behind their visor.
“Hey, at least one of the giants didn't eat you instead.”
You smacked the back of their helmet.
