Summary
Eventually, Simon opens his eyes.
He was drowning, he's pretty sure – but this isn't the first time his brain has been fucked with since he allowed himself to be welded into this death-tube. At least this time, he's not vomiting up blood on the floor of the sub.
He's not sure where he is, though. It looks like the inside of the sub, still, but everything is tinged red and his vision's a bit wobbly, like he's peering through water. He's sprawled on the floor with his back against the camera controls, and the navigation panel is obscured by something that looks like a thicket of branches that wavers in his unsteady view.
Also, there's a dog sitting on the floor in front of him.

For the record, it was not the Winter Soldier who brought on the end of humanity. It was more of a group effort really.
And that clutz Murphy, a product of Hydra nepotism putting someone in a position they shouldn’t be in.
And now several years on Bucky has a lot of confusing memories, but at least the fast paced environment and literal walking nightmares means he doesn’t really have time to dwell too much on the more distant past.
In the end none of it mattered anyways.
Bucky is merely surviving, avoiding best he can the lingering human population and avoiding Empties when possible.
This task is going well, until he gets stuck with a small but fierce blonde named Steve.

(features angsty Bucky, 'no witnesses' Winter Soldier, ass whoopin' Wilson, sedentary senior Steve AND scrawny Steve, indispensable Red Wing*, with much hurt/comfort (of Bucky, not Red Wing), and yes, a major character death.
