Chapter 2

Notes:

I couldn't, as it turns out, make the graveyard scene work with the rest of the story, but I wrote it before I realized that was the case. So hey, here's an extra snippet of Tom and Donna wandering the graveyard. (Imagine Orin as the gravedigger.)

Chapter Text

“Oh, no, Donna, look at that gravestone: ‘Rest in peace, Mark Brendanawicz.’  We’re at Mark Brendanawicz’s grave.  Mark was such a cool guy and he had that great truck!  I didn’t even know he was dead.  How does this keep happening to me?  Who else don’t I know is dead?  This is a disaster.”

“Calm down, Tom.  Look at the dates.  1946 - 2015.”

“Whoa... I didn’t know Mark was that old.”

“He wasn’t, idiot.  That must be his dad or his uncle.”

“Oooooh,” Tom says.  “Yeah, no, I never knew him, then.  That is way less sad.”

“Right,” says Donna.

“For me,” Tom qualifies.  “Probably still sad for Mark II.”

“Uh huh,” Donna says.

“Mark II,” Tom says, and giggles.  “He was so great.  We should find out what he’s up to.”

“Focus, Tom.”
