Work Text:
Malakai had eagerly texted Rowan only about half an hour after he'd broken up with Amerie.
A part of him felt bad for moving on so quickly, but he ultimately couldn't find it in him to feel that guilty. She'd not reached out to him between terms and since they'd sort of gotten back together, it had all just been about her. She was self-centered and he didn't find himself too heartbroken over their sort of breakup (could he even call it a breakup when they weren't official in the first place?)
At worst, he was worried about losing her as a friend but, even then, was that really the end of the world? She'd never been particularly great to him anyway.
Rowan smiled as he read the text:
I've figured things out. See you?
Selfishly, he'd been hoping Malakai would end things with Amerie. Malakai was exactly his type and the idea of not getting to explore that broke his heart a little.
His heart wasn't broken anymore, though. No, he was excited. From the sound of it, he may actually have gotten his chance.
They didn't talk much about it at school. How could they? That was far too open of a space. Anyone could overhear them and lord knows the gossip chain at that school was one of the fastest. Besides, despite his growing disdain for the girl, Malakai had no interest in fucking up Amerie's campaign even more than it already was.
When Rowan came over, though, they sat and talked for a while. Malakai had things he had to say and Rowan wanted nothing more than to listen.
"I'm bi" Malakai said. Technically this was his second time officially coming out (telling Darren he was confused didn't count) but his coming out to Amerie had more just been to get her off his back. This felt way more real, and ergo way scarier, even to another queer person. "I mean, I think I've, like, known that in my heart for a while but it's just taken me a bit to come to terms with that"
"I understand"
"And me and Amerie broke up"
"Oh..." Rowan mumbled. His suspicions were confirmed but he didn't wanna let on how excited he was about that. He didn't want to be insensitive.
But, man, he was thrilled.
