Work Text:
Dan didn't have the empathy to care about hurting other people's feelings by being too blunt. That combined with a deep opposition to lying often led to people getting upset with him, which he found rather frustrating.
Some people appreciated his brutal honesty. Those were the people he tended to like more. Unfortunately, most people found this combination of his quirks simply too much, accusing him of being hurtful and toxic.
He understood that these people had their own issues and didn't think much of it. After all, it wasn't like he said everything he thought. He didn't give his unsolicited opinions most of the time, but if someone asked if an outfit looked good on them and it didn't, he wasn't gonna sugarcoat it.
The people who found that offensive were simply looking too deep into it. It really wasn't that deep- He didn't mean harm towards anyone, and it's not like he was mean about anything.
He didn't understand why some people would ask him for his opinion on something if they didn't actually want it.
People were forever a mystery to him- No college course could change that.
However he was glad that, for all its faults, the History of Lying course gave him a few people he could actually consider friends- People who accepted him even with his awkward demeanor and bluntness.
