Work Text:
You haunted his dreams last night. If longing for you wasn't enough, he fantasized about meeting you again.
You and Steven, standing in front of each other on the beach. Your outfit shined in the glow of the moonlight and the stars. He was absolutely mesmerized. Just like when he first and last danced with you.
Perhaps there was a meteor shower too. Steven surprisingly couldn't remember, as he focused more on you, your appearance, your voice, and your actions.
That accessory he bought was right in his view. It contrasted from the mask you still wore, obstructing your face.
Steven still doesn't know you well. He doesn't know the face behind the mask. Hell, he doesn't even know your name. What kind of fool falls in love with someone before they even know their next significant other's name?
Waves hit the shore gently. It was a melody to his ears. As if you weren't enough.
Your hand opened to him. It was an offer to dance with him again. Steven took it in a heartbeat.
The sand crunched against his shoes as he slowly danced with you. You only stood out more to him in this dim moonlight, in front of the shimmering stars. Even with falling meteors scorching the sky, you were the only thing he could stare at. You looked so wonderful.
How can you distract Steven so much from something he's so passionately knowledgeable about?
There was a moment of no movement. Only an exchange of looks of mesmerization. The tides met the beach softly as you both admired each other.
His mouth slightly agape, his question was finally asked, "What is your name?"
You chuckled as if you were in disbelief of his curiosity. Perhaps you only believed Steven to be only a person with a temporary presence in your life. Little did you know that: he wanted more.
Your thumb slipped under your mask and as he was about to see your face, you were gone.
As in, it wasn't even real to begin with. Steven woke up with his chest to his bed, face stuffed into the pillow. It was hard to breathe before he lifted his head back. The sound of his alarm became clear. Steven dreaded ever waking up, but, he has a life to live.
A life not involving you. Unless you count longing, then, perhaps it does involve you.
Steven ran his hand through his hair.
Why didn't he ask for your name?
