Summary of the fic:

"About a week after the events of “Lebanon” in mid-season 14, Sam and Dean wake up in the car with no memory of how they got there. They quickly figure out that they’ve been transported to an alternate universe where there appears to be nothing supernatural and nothing to hunt. They also quickly figure out that they’re not, technically, brothers. As they road-trip around the desolate landscape of this new plague-ridden world, AUSam and Dean compare memories from their pasts, paying homage to bygone hunts as they go. Eventually, they come to accept that they may never go home again, but maybe they can see their way to building a new future, one based on trust and honesty about their feelings for each other."

Here are the illustrations I did for amybond45's awesome fanfic called "You Only Feel When It´s Lost". It's a wonderfully whimsical and emotional story that takes you down Memory Lane in a slightly different way to what you might be used to. The descriptive text of the story struck me and I was not disappointed: a beautifully woven whole with many tropes that appealed to me. You can read the awesome fic here: LJ / AO3.

 

I used Derwent watercolour pens, Winston & Newton watercolours and Van Gogh pastels. The paper is some of the not-best-possible watercolour paper. I am a fan of traditional handmade art. 

 

 

 

 

 For the cover, I wanted a description of a sleepless night that gradually slides into an action-packed event. The story involves a lot of driving, and as I read story to the end, the blood moon emerged as a significant element and symbol. So the moon then became the unifying motif for all the pictures, and in this one we are not driving to the sunset but to the lunar eclipse.

 One of the strong scenes in the story that struck me is when Dean finds Sam in the bathroom trying to do magic. The red blood moon came into this picture as well in the form of a magic circle on the ground.

 

 

There is sadness in this picture. Sam hugs Dean, Dean accepts the hug. Sam is possessive, but he's not entirely happy either. A delicate moment with a lot of angst and love at the same time.

I also made Sam and another Sam, inspired by the story. Which one is the real one? Hard to say!
