A frantic knock at the door drags Will’s attention away from the screen, and he sets down his drink to answer the door. He hadn’t been expecting anyone else, but maybe Dylan had forgotten his keys again.
Will opens the door, ready to scold his roomate for forgetting his keys again. Any words he had die in his throat when he comes face to face with Mike Wheeler standing at his door, water droplets on his hair, breathing urgently.
“Why did you lie about the painting?”
Will freezes in place. He can’t move, can’t process the question fully, because what is Mike doing at his door? There’s a long pause where neither of them move, and Will is forced to hear the words his friend said. His stomach sinks even further and his face feels pale.
