The strange things (haha get it) in Hawkins, Indiana finally seemed to be over after graduation. The party decides to group together, just like the older teens had done, each month to not lose track of each other while playing short campaigns every now and then. Now it's almost a year after their graduation when Joyce and Hopper's wedding is meant to be celebrated. This brings everyone much closer than they thought they would get - especially for Mike.
While Mike assumed he was dealing with everything normally, something inside kept eating away at him, like it wasn't really over. But it was right? Nothing should be bothering him.
But something was.
Will was.Basically, the duality of Mike Wheeler and his crazy shit.

Summary
Mike is not coping as well as everyone thinks he is. He hides so many secrets that he thinks they will kill him from the inside out. The biggest of all, He is in love with his best friend, and he hates him for it. Mike and Will don't speak much anymore; both seem to resent each other. Slowly, walls start to fall, and they come to understand each other better, but not before they almost kill each other.
This fic takes place right before season five. It loosely follows the plot up until E4S5, from there I will be doing my own thing :) Major trigger warning, this will get dark! and make sure ur not squemish bc things will get pretty gory lol. If you're also an Ethel Cain fan you are in for a treat! Each chapter is named after a song lyric, and I have written down the songs so u can listen while you read the chapter. I see similarities between Will and Ethel, I guess Mike is Willoughby <3

so i was disappointed the last eps of s5 to say the least and i cant believe it was actually that badly written. i could understand why things went where they went, and I'm not hating on any of the writers who worked on the project, just disppointed yk... so im going to write out a script of how everything should've maybe actually happened - and maybe ill write it into a detailed fic or someone can adapt it because i refuse to believe that up to interpretation ending & the final fight scene being only 5 minutes

“We had a date tonight,” Mike kicked a jagged rock as they made their way through the trees, neither in any rush to return to class on time. “I know that that doesn’t mean jackshit compared to fighting Vecna. It's just…It’s been a year and a half. We’re thirty crawls in, and we’ve gotten nowhere. El can’t find him, Will’s mostly fine, and Max is doing her physical therapy.”
“I get it. It just might take a hundred crawls to get it over with and get that type of freedom,” Lucas muttered, crossing his arms. “You really want out of here that badly?”
“If I can get her away from Hawkins, I’d do gas station food, motels, and live out of my damn car the rest of my life if it meant she could actually have a chance. If there’s no future for her here, then there isn’t one for me either.”
Mike looked back at the boys in the distance with sorrow stained on his features. He knew what would become of this.
“I can’t see a world where staying here works out for us.”
