In the end, it doesn’t matter. None of it fucking matters. Because what’s really in control is the tension. This elusive string tied between their chests that’s always changing length. Right now it’s so short and taught and strong that Will can’t imagine resisting it. So really, it was never a matter of if he would. Just when. When will he fold? When will he let go and let himself follow Mike into the water?
He dares to glance down at his knees, where he can see Mike’s fingers peeking out from behind his calves (as if he needed that visual reminder that they’re touching), and then back up to meet Mike’s expectant gaze.
He’s going to do it. He’s such a fucking idiot.

Outside the classroom, Theo stood chatting with Josh, hands hooked in the straps of his backpack. The mid-morning sun cut across his face, streaking it a buttery yellow, and Liam trampled a quick, brutal fantasy where he shoved Theo out of the window he stood before. Theo noticed Liam’s sullen stare and winked at him. “I look forward to hearing your insights, next class!” He jeered across the crowded hallway. “How about we partner up for the group project?” Theo laughed at his own stupid joke.
“How about I punch you in the balls instead?” If Liam didn’t leave immediately, he’d regret it.
As he strode down the hall, discarded gum wrappers and chip bags crushed under his heels, Liam heard Theo sarcastically say to Josh, “I love that kid.”
“Doubt he feels the same,” Josh replied. Damn right.
Liam didn’t go searching for trouble, but it found him anyway, and its name was Theo Raeken.

Read through ch. 10! Very good. We've been commenting on every chapter kinda good. It's like the one book where the guy travels to a different world every time he sleeps and keeps getting tossed back n forth. One Eden, here, has Mother, a very good omen's-y god (complete with Eden + Walls!) and the other has Father, who... I would not want to be stuck with as a god. Still, he gets very funnily exasperated with Al's Alastorness and it's beautiful.
