“Are you offering?” Arthur asked.
Merlin stepped closer, close enough that Arthur could feel the warmth radiating off him despite the cooling evening air. He extended a hand, pale fingers waiting.

Some of the legends give Arthur an additional half-sister, Elaine. Here’s how her existence as a background character, despite performing no great deeds or showing no particular extraordinariness, prompts an earlier magic reveal and a happier ending than they all originally got.
Will be canon compliant until the end of Season 3, then verge into AU territory, where everyone stays alive.

Merlin has been especially irritable since Freya's death and finds the perfect outlet in seeing how he can annoy Arthur by teasing him about his weight and how much the prince eats. But it turns out that Arthur Pendragon is much more susceptible to his servant's opinion than he imagines. And so an eating disorder is born. A modern disease that no one understands and that, to Merlin's despair, may prevent Albion's destiny from never being fulfilled.

Honestly, Merlin had thought telling Arthur about his magic, and revoking the old laws would be the biggest obstacles to creating Albion. Really that had all been the easy part. After a few teary, but heartfelt conversations Merlin was installed as the new Court Sorcerer and together they set out to unite all the lands in peace.
Apparently the biggest setback was proving to be their marriage status or lack-there-of. Who knew so many people cared about whether a king or wizard had a spouse?
Well, Arthur has an idea to solve both of their problems, if it doesn’t prove to break Merlin’s heart first. Because how was he supposed to let go after getting a taste of the one thing he’d always wanted, Arthur’s hand in marriage.

Summary
Most everyone Merlin knew warned him that nothing good would ever come of his little (though astonishingly requited) crush on the Lady Morgana. Merlin was, as of now, finding himself in agreement, as she made her dramatic return to Camelot one year after Merlin had attempted to kill her with hemlock. But when Merlin discovers the child, his child, he can say at least one very good thing, as well many more exceedingly ridiculous and complicated things, certainly had come of it.
Featuring pervasive passive aggression and a general sense of melancholy, an extended and distinctly non peaceful political process to legalising magic, a not entirely willing family trip to Ealdor, and some foreign diplomatic negotiations somewhat lacking in diplomacy.
