Work Text:
From day one, Zoro had three earrings. Nami would argue that outside of the green hair and three swords, they were his signature look. When the sun caught them at the right angle, they glistened alluringly and when there was a breeze, they reminded her of wind chimes in the way they would swing and clatter against one another.
It went without saying, that she was a bit obsessed with them, like a magpie to gold… which was fitting really. So, the moment the three of them got their act together, she took every and any opportunity to play with them. If his head was in her lap, her hand would innocently drift from his hair down to the three earrings to gently play with them between her fingers.
Luffy was no better. But he wasn’t a subtle as she was, he’d make a beeline for them, with no pretences for anything other than playing with them. He wasn’t as gentle as her either. Instead, he’d flick them and watch as they’d collide with one another in battle but Zoro never said a word.
To either of them, actually.
Which was why she didn’t think anything of it as she played with them in the library, legs thrown over his lap and head resting on his shoulder as she watched them dance. She had been reading a new book but the chapter she was on was particularly slow and it hadn’t taken very much to become distracted, especially as his earrings twinkled in the sunlight coming through the window. She’d never stood a chance.
Zoro was asleep whilst she did, had been since they’d come in there to relax, and she idly wondered if perhaps it felt nice. Maybe that was why he never said anything.
Well, she thought he’d been sleeping until his voice rumbled softly, interrupting the silence, “You can have them, if you want.”
Her fingers stopped instantly like she’d been caught with her hand in the cookie jar.
He didn’t mean…
“What?” She was sure she heard it wrong. Or maybe interpreted it wrong.
His eye opened to look at her and he was more awake than she’d expected.
“You and Luffy, you can have one each,” he continued, shrugging and trying to be nonchalant but she knew him well enough, he looked apprehensive underneath that bravado.
That didn’t matter right now though because he’d taken her off guard. It was the last thing she’d expected and she didn’t know what to say and so many things swarmed to the front of her mind, yet the first thing actually out of her mouth was-
“But your holes will close up?”
“Doesn’t matter,” he assured, no hesitation as he looked at her straight on, “Not like I’m going to need them.”
“You wouldn’t get new ones to replace them?”
He looked confused at that. “Why would I? It defeats the point.”
And his apprehension now made sense. She knew what he meant, what this gesture meant and it was coming from him. She wasn’t entirely sure why she was surprised; he was loyal to a fault and was ride or die in every sense of the phrase. Maybe it was because of how romantic it was. Briefly, she wondered how long he’d been thinking about this and that actually, he may not have been asleep at all since they’d come into the library.
As if sensing the seriousness of their conversation, Luffy came bounding in, all smiles and talking a million miles an hour, despite the odd atmosphere in the room (although that might just be in her head). She was glad for it though, glad for the distraction and to maybe park the conversation for another time, when she’d had more time to gather herself.
Except Zoro was straightforward and knew he was doing something as soon as he set his mind to it. A trait he shared with Luffy.
“You want an earring? Nami’s having the other one,” he cut in when Luffy took a breath from speaking. She didn’t remember agreeing but then, he did know her well and even she knew she’d eventually agree to it, no matter how long she might put it off for.
Luffy halted immediately, eyebrow twitching, his face blank otherwise and eyes searching. She almost felt like she had whiplash from how quickly his mood changed. “Are you sure?” He asked, head tilting.
“Yeah, I want to,” Zoro confirmed, no hesitation.
And Luffy had seen everything he needed to because his grin was back tenfold, almost splitting his face in two. He bounced over to them, excitedly talking about how much of a pirate he’d look with his new earring as he clambered over them to join them on the sofa.
His hand eventually found Zoro’s earrings too.
“I’m only asking you to sit still for five minutes,” Nami huffed, although she wasn’t really annoyed this time, she was as excited as Luffy.
After agreeing in the library, they’d very quickly realised Luffy would actually need to get a piercing and as much as it would make sense for Chopper to do it, Nami agreed with Zoro that it should be one of them. It didn’t feel right to have someone else there when it was something between the three of them. It felt like a right of passage. And after all, it was only piercing a hole, something any of them could do with a needle and antiseptic.
Nami and Zoro had briefly discussed who should to do it, because despite Zoro’s clumsiness (“Oi, I’m not clumsy”, “Zoro, you fell into a chimney”), he would make sure to get this right. It was Luffy after all.
In the end, they’d decided that she’d pierce his lobe and he could entertain Luffy. Something he was failing at but it was at least amusing to see him struggle as Luffy wiggled around in his lap.
It wasn’t the best idea to put a freshly pierced ear in a hoop, a straight stud would have been better for healing, but she didn’t bother voicing that. On this occasion, exceptions could be made because it wasn’t about getting a piercing, it was about wearing Zoro’s earring. About the three of them having matching earrings, together. And she could understand that.
Before they’d started, Zoro had already taken out two of his earrings but as she looked down at them now, a thought came to mind.
“You’ve cleaned these, right?”
There was a long pause and she didn’t like the look on his face.
“Why would I do that?”
She closed her eyes, trying to count to ten and failing at two. Zoro didn’t have the best hygiene but he had pierced ears too, she was so sure he would have understood this!
“Because it’s going into an open wound?!” She countered, hoping the penny would drop.
It did not.
“I didn’t do all of this,” his hand gestured to everything she’d laid out, “and I’ve pierced my own ear every time.”
And yet somehow, she still didn’t rethink taking his earring. She was in deep, she sighed to herself.
“It’ll be okay,” Luffy beamed, “I never get sick.”
“That’s not how it works!” She argued, before tacking on, “And I’m not being lectured by Chopper when your ear gets infected.” Her pride wouldn’t allow it. She could already see Chopper’s face in her head and the way she would instantly be labelled as bad as those two.
She sighed as they looked back at her blankly.
Honestly.
“Give me a few minutes,” she told them, gathering the earrings and alcohol.
“I don’t see what the big deal is,” Luffy said to Zoro, not even bothering to lower his voice.
Zoro nodded back. “Me either, sounds like a bunch of fuss to me.”
She loved them, she loved them, she loved them, she chanted to herself as they went back and forth like she wasn’t in the room. It didn’t stop her from glowering over at them though.
But when all was said and done, it was fine. She’d disinfected the earrings, Luffy finally sat still for long enough and even though his ear tried to stretch with the needle, it eventually relented. There was a tiny bit of blood and no matter what Luffy might say, she saw him wince as she fiddled to get the hoop in.
And when the earring proudly dangled from Luffy’s ear, she almost felt choked up. Zoro did too, even if he was trying his best to disguise it.
“Put yours in now too!” Luffy excitedly asked, almost leaping off of Zoro’s lap to stand before her.
Zoro had asked this morning if she’d wanted her earring then but it hadn’t felt right until all three of them could wear theirs.
As much as she loved her pearl earrings, there was no hesitation as she took them out and replaced it with Zoro’s. She hadn’t thought about what she’d put in the other ear, maybe a plain gold stud to match? But when she thought about Zoro letting his other two holes close, it made her hesitate. Why would she need another earring when she has his?
The hoop practically slid through and it was heavier than she expected. He may not have much of a fashion sense, but he’d taken care when picking out these earrings.
“We match.” Luffy beamed, hand stretching the small distance between them to touch the new piece of jewellery in her ear. She couldn’t help but do the same back, cupping his jaw and letting her thumb gently tap at the end of his new accessory, weary of the fresh hole.
“We do,” Zoro agreed and he looked so fond. It wasn’t often she saw that expression on him but it was something she saw more and more often these days when he looked at the both of them and it suited him.
“It doesn’t look as weird as I was imagining,” she said absentmindedly as she looked at Zoro’s ear. It was still odd but as she looked back at Luffy, it felt like he’d always had that earring. She wondered if it looked the same way on her.
Later, when everything had settled down, it was Zoro’s hand that wandered to their ears, fingers absently drifting along the gold dangling from their ears.
Nami smiled.
When they’d accepted Zoro’s earrings, she hadn’t really given much thought to anyone else’s reaction.
In hindsight, the crew’s reaction to their new jewellery arrangement wasn’t a surprise. They spent all their time together and their relationship had been a long time coming (Usopp’s words), so naturally they were excited about this development.
But when she said excited, she meant being teased within an inch of their lives. Robin had asked whose last name she was taking and there had been plenty of winks thrown her way. Even Sanji had been somewhat impressed (“Who knew mosshead had it in him?” “What was that, twirlybrow?”). At least Zoro seemed to be in the same boat, his cheeks tinged pink and he wouldn’t look anyone in the eye, even when he was duking it out with Sanji. Which was laughable when he was the one who had proposed this in the first place. Luffy meanwhile, was taking it all in his stead, smiling and laughing as he showed off his new accessory.
What she hadn’t been prepared for was everyone else’s interest outside of the crew.
Namely, the News Coo.
The newspaper was widely known for distributing wanted posters and reporting on world events, whether always entirely accurate or not, that was to be seen. Naturally, a crew as disruptive as theirs, they were featured in it quite heavily, but towards the back, there was a section dedicated to what only could be described as trashy gossip. It was all vapid rumours, from who was with whom, crews that were on the brink of disbanding and so on. No one was safe from the rumours.
And Nami would be lying if she said she didn’t love to read it. Even if she did snort at some of the ridiculous stories and ‘reliable’ sources.
But as she got to the final page, eager to see what rumours were circulating that week, she stopped dead at the familiar face staring back at her.
Zoro’s face and name were front and centre, face serious as he looked at something in the distance but that wasn’t the focus. It was on the now single earring dangling proudly for all to see. It was a recent photo and she couldn’t for the life of her place where it had been taken.
Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zoro Missing Two Earrings?
Is this the end for his famous three sword style?
Nami blinked, momentarily stunned.
When Nami and Luffy had taken an earring each, she’d never considered for a second that anyone outside of the crew would be that interested, let alone news worthy. Which in hindsight was probably naïve. This was the perfect kind of story for a gossip column.
Reading on, there were all kind of suggestions about what may have happened and the more she read, she understood. The three earrings were part of his signature look, even she’d thought it idly before, so of course people would naturally be curious. Still though, one of the suggestions was that perhaps he’d lost them and if that wasn’t good teasing material, she didn’t know what was. She couldn’t wait to bring that up with him later when they were on watch. With that final thought, she made her way through the rest of the articles and closed the paper.
Over the following days she thought no more of it. They’d find something more interesting to report on, it was the New World after all.
Oh how wrong she’d been.
The following week, she was paying for her paper – slightly annoyed by another increase – and trying to find a good spot to read where she wouldn’t be disturbed. She found it quickly when she spotted Zoro asleep in the shade on the lawn, tucked off into the corner.
“Zoro,” she said, nudging his leg with her foot.
Nothing.
“Zoro,” louder this time, foot insistent, and only a twitch on his face.
As if sensing she was about to kick him, his eye cracked open, “What?”
“Make space,” she demanded.
She had his attention then.
“The whole lawn deck isn’t enough for you?” He grouched. “Where’s your chair?”
“You know what I mean.” She flapped the paper at his lap but he just frowned. How was he not getting this when she was being so obvious.
Rolling her eyes, she stepped into the gap of his crossed legs and nudged them with her foot until he stretched his legs out. Content, she sat herself in the hollow of his legs, back pressed against him and head pillowed on his chest. His arms wrapped around her waist and even if they had been together a while, it still caused a fluttering in her stomach.
He snorted as she wiggled to get comfortable. “Couldn’t have just said?”
“How many times have we done this now? You should get it already.”
She knew he was rolling his eye but she’d let him have that one.
They sat in silence, Zoro dozing behind her as she skimmed through the paper for anything interesting but it was only when she got the last page, she froze.
Because not only was there Zoro’s face looking back at her, Luffy’s was right next to him and they were bumped straight to the top. They’d reused Zoro’s photo from the last article but Luffy’s was new and she understood why as she read the title.
New Jewellery for the Strawhat Captain?
Is this the missing earring we’ve all been looking for?
He must have sensed her change from relaxed to tense because he hummed, “Alright?”
“They’re talking about us again.”
“When aren’t they?”
What surprised her about Zoro was that he was into the gossip. It’d taken a while to figure out as he was subtle about it, never looking too interested and never unprompted. But when she was around, he’d always listen dutifully and ask questions as she piqued his interest, she’d even caught him out once when his mouth had dropped open in surprise at something she told him. It was a moment she’d never forget and one she wished she had on camera.
Naturally, the gossip section had also written about the three of them being together before too, much to their amusement. Personally, Nami didn’t think they were very obvious out in public but then again, it didn’t hold its weight when the paper was constantly speculating about all of them. Zoro’s least favourite was her and Sanji, for obvious reasons.
“No, about the earrings, they managed to get a photo of Luffy.”
She had his interest then, his chin settled on the top of her head to peer at the paper in her hands.
“It’s a good photo of Luffy.”
She smiled fondly as Luffy’s photo beamed back up at her, grinning toothily.
“Yeah, it is.” As silly as it was, she wanted to keep the newspaper clipping, no matter how ridiculous their interest.
“At least they’re not still talking about me losing them.”
She snorted at that, he’d been annoyed when she’d told him about that.
“Not that farfetched though, is it?”
“Oi.”
Smiling to herself, she scanned down the rest of the paper, eyes catching on an article just below.
“Beside earring gate-” Zoro made a noise to show he was listening “-they’re talking about Kid and Killer being in a relationship, but that’s not new either.”
The paper always circled back to that, especially when new photos came out of them, which was frequently. She was starting to think it was true.
“They are, by the way.”
Nami put the newspaper down then. “What?”
“You didn’t know?”
She turned to look at him then, making him move his head from its perch. “You did!?”
He frowned down at her. “It’s not exactly a secret.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?!”
“You never asked!” He shrugged, like it was her fault.
“I shouldn’t have to! You have to tell me all news or gossip you hear, as soon as you hear it.”
Zoro blanched. “That’s ridiculous!”
“Wait, what else do you know?!”
Luffy sandals could be heard slapping outside then, moving closer to where they were.
“Oi, Luf!” Zoro called and Luffy stopped dead, scanning the lawn deck until he found them. He had a net in his hand but wasn’t going towards the aquarium hatch, which was concerning.
Instead of investigating what he had planned for the net, she put the paper down to one side and opened her arms in invitation. That was all he needed as his eyes lit up and he threw the net down. He charged towards them, only coming to a stop so he could settle between her legs, mimicking the same thing she was doing with Zoro. Zoro’s arms stretched across them, so they could rest loosely at Luffy’s waist.
Once Luffy was settled, Zoro continued, “Kid and Killer, they’re together, right?”
“Yeah?” He replied with a shrug of his shoulders, attitude blasé, like he didn’t know why he was being asked.
“What?! How on earth do you two know this?!”
“I asked,” Zoro said.
“You asked Kid if he was with Killer?” Nami asked, voice laced with disbelief.
“I saw them kiss,” Luffy added.
She couldn’t believe this, of all the people to know something like this and it was these two?! She had definitely spoken about this around Luffy before too and he’d said absolutely nothing. He wasn’t one for gossip but still.
“Why didn’t you tell me?!”
“You didn’t ask.”
Good grief. She could feel her forehead twitch. If she ever got the end of this conversation, she was going to need a nap.
“Right, I’m not having any more of this,” she started, daring them to interrupt, “You both must tell me information you learn, whether you think it’s important or not, even if I don’t ask.”
Luffy was giving her an odd look and Zoro just nodded placatingly after being told for the second time.
Neither of them was ever going to tell her.
“Wait, what about Benn Beckman and Shanks?” Nami suddenly asked, remembering the article she’d read a few weeks back. If there was anyone that would know, it’d be him.
They both looked towards Luffy.
“What?” He looked at them blankly.
“Are they together!?” Zoro asked and if she wasn’t so invested in the answer, she would have given him shit for it.
“How am I meant to know?”
“You grew up with them!” Nami added.
“I was eight.”
“You have eyes, don’t you?”
Luffy shrugged, the picture of disinterest. “I was just trying to get on their ship.”
“What a waste, the one person that would know.” Nami dramatically threw her head back on Zoro’s chest. She wasn’t really that bothered and she’d move on with the next bit of gossip but still.
Luffy took that as a sign to lean back too and there was a moment of peace where there was no sound but the seagulls and the waves lapping into the ship.
Well, until-
“You both have really comfy boobs,” Luffy said, nuzzling his head against Nami’s chest.
“I don’t have boobs,” Zoro rumbled a bit defensively and it almost sounded like he’d been close to dozing off.
“You’re right Luffy, they’re really comfortable.” She nuzzled her head in-between, punctuating her point.
He flexed his pec in retaliation and she giggled when her head bounced slightly. “Only proving my point here Zoro.”
He flexed it again but there was a faint smile playing on his lips.
“Oh, Luffy,” she started, remembering what had kicked this all up, “we’re in the paper again.”
“Did my bounty go up?”
“No, it’s about our earrings, do you want me to read it to you?”
“Why would they be interested in that?” He asked but didn’t wait for the answer, instead his eyes closed as he replied, “Yeah, okay.”
He’d always liked it when she read to him, even if he wasn’t interested in the content.
She read it aloud, fully convinced that he had in fact fallen asleep along with Zoro but she hadn’t had the chance to read it in full herself, so she didn’t mind. It wasn’t anything ground breaking, they’d moved away from Zoro losing the earrings to what it meant that Luffy had one of them but it was the final sentence in the article that made her pause.
But readers, the question now stands. If Roronoa Zoro has kept one and Strawhat Luffy has the other one, where is the third earring?
And it was that single question that turned all eyes on them.
They were a notorious crew, wherever they went, they caused trouble, whether it was a bustling city or a quaint village. If something was happening, they somehow always managed to sniff it out and stick their noses in it – for the better, of course. So naturally, when they arrived at a new island, whether it was minutes, hours or days, they would sooner or later be recognised. Sometimes it was to smiles and other times fear or trepidation, it really depended on who they believed. Nami had made her peace with that though, she knew who they were.
But now, the stares felt like laser beams. Instead of casual glances, people would whip their heads and their gaze focused on one thing and one thing only. There’d be whispers, louder than normal and necks craning to try and catch a glimpse of something gold.
Call Nami petty, but she was highly amused. There was no saving Luffy, his face was already out there and, in all honesty, there never was - he never followed a plan at the best of times. It was so him to be found out the moment he took a step off the ship and she’d put money on it that he probably showed it off when he was asked about it.
But the moment that story broke and all eyes turned to them, Nami had untucked the hair from behind her ears and went about her business like nothing had changed.
She tried not to smile when the following day, Robin’s hair was also down, Usopp’s in braids, Franky’s long pigtails were back along with Brook’s afro tied into pigtails too. All covering their ears. Not that she knew how Brook would ever wear an earring but it was the gesture that she appreciated.
Still, even if the rest of the crew’s ears weren’t covered, it didn’t stop people apparently.
“Some shithead actually came up to me to check!” Sanji fumed that evening at dinner, looking ready to fight and she already knew how this would end.
Naturally, Zoro’s blunt comment followed. “What’re you upset for? They thought I’d actually give you the time of day.”
“That’s my line!”
It wasn’t that she was ashamed of Luffy and Zoro, far from it, she loved being with them. It was just that she wanted to do it on her terms and not for some slimy photographer that was going to make a pretty penny off of her.
But it was something that played on her mind throughout the evening as the crew started talking about if they’d been approached and by bedtime, she couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“You know I’m not ashamed of you both, right?” She said, head pillowed on Zoro’s chest with Luffy mirroring her on the other side.
They were in her room tonight, although Zoro had to be up later to take over watch.
“You wouldn’t have accepted the earring if you were,” Zoro assured and she felt it rumble from his chest into her ear.
Luffy had yet to say anything but he was looking at her blankly. It was a look she knew all too well.
Then he smiled. “I’m not bothered about the photo,” he said cheerily, “But you are and that’s okay.”
And just like that, he was straight to the crux of the issue. He knew she wasn’t ashamed; it wasn’t even something that had crossed his mind, he just knew she wanted to do it at her own speed, on her own terms. And he was okay with that.
“What he said,” Zoro added, pressing a kiss to the top of her head as Luffy squeezed her hand on Zoro’s chest.
They didn’t care but they also didn’t care that she did and she’d never felt luckier to have them.
It’d been weeks now and Nami knew it couldn’t go on forever, that it eventually had to come to an end.
Especially when Sanji had been approached far too many times to count and his nerves were frayed, even if he tried to hide it from her. In fairness, they all had because as the weeks grew and the paper kept speculating, interest increased with it. To the point, that when they were out at a bar someone had been ballsy enough to come up to her and try to move her hair. If she hadn’t been so surprised by the audacity, the man would have had his hand slapped. Luckily, Zoro was with her and much quicker than her in that moment. He’d had the man’s wrist in a death grip, face steely until he’d apologised and gone scampering off once released.
But it did come to an end one day, weeks and weeks after the story first broke when she was walking through town with Zoro and Luffy.
There was meant to be a very good bar in town that served good food and alcohol, which was all they’d needed to know before they were off the ship. She’d made sure to stop them just before, throwing a new shirt at the both them. She knew they’d had their current tops on for a few days and it’d be nice to look a little bit dressier for a change.
There were whispers as they walked through the town, people recognising them, some people even doing double takes. It was something they’d all done before but even more so since the newspaper started the epic hunt for the missing earrings. After all this time, they didn’t think anything of it anymore.
They hadn’t made it very far through town when she’d heard a voice calling through the crowd, “Excuse me? Miss?”
Nami had stopped on reflex when the voice sounded young. She just couldn’t help herself.
And low and behold, the voice had been directed at her.
The girl running towards her was small and thin, a bit too thin, in Nami’s opinion and she frowned. Her dress was pretty but Nami could see the tattered edges and faint stains that were too stubborn to be moved, something that came with age. She felt her heart pang for the little girl.
Naturally, she stopped and turned towards the girl, “Are you okay? Do you need help?” Her eyes already casting around the town in search for worried parents.
“Are- are you the Strawhat navigator? Cat thief Nami?” The girl asked, all wide eyed and Nami would give her whatever she wanted with a look like that.
“I am.”
The girl smiled, genuinely and looked bashful as she asked, “Could I have your photo?” She lifted the snail in her hands and it blinked back at her.
Nami hadn’t missed the way the girl’s eyes were jumping from her face to her covered ears. She wasn’t subtle at all but Nami couldn’t find it in herself to feel annoyed. If anything, she was utterly charmed. Nami wondered idly if perhaps word had got out about her soft spot for children, but even if it had, she didn’t care. She could never deny them, especially someone as cute as her.
Afterall, she reasoned with herself, it wasn’t the worst way to go out. So, because of that, for the first time in weeks, she tucked her hair behind her ears and felt the gold earring sway from the movement.
The girl before her gasped, eyes wide and shiny and giving away instantly why she’d asked for the photo in the first place.
Nami smiled, bending slightly. “Ready?”
“Oi, what’s the hold up?”
“Yeah, we’ve got food waiting!”
In all honestly, Nami had completely forgotten about Luffy and Zoro. It made her wonder how far they’d got before they realised she’d stopped.
She could hear their steps coming closer and she turned to look over her shoulder as she told them, “One second.”
Both Luffy and Zoro had seen the free-swinging earring at the same time, their eyes flickered with recognition as their smiles grew. Zoro’s was subtle and Luffy’s broad and she loved them both.
The girl hesitated, gaze now flicking to Zoro and Luffy over her shoulder, which she understood could be an intimidating sight, even with someone as friendly as Luffy.
“Go on, it’s okay,” she encouraged and the girl gave a wobbly smile, regaining a bit of her confidence as she raised her snail to get the right angle.
As the snail clicked, Nami knew the paper would have a field day with a photo like that. If they didn’t travel so much, she would have asked her to post a copy for herself once it was developed.
“Make sure you get as much as you can for that, it’s an exclusive!” She told her as they said their parting goodbyes. She tacked on a wink at the end to keep it light-hearted but there was truth in it. Not only did she get a photo of the third earring, but she managed to get the other two in with it as well.
She couldn’t wait to see the paper next week.
“Nami, the paper!” Luffy called, running towards her, “It arrived!”
And even if she was in the middle of drawing a map, she could put her pen down for that. She’d been eagerly awaiting the paper all week, looking towards the sky for an errant bird and it was only once she’d got on her own nerves with all her pacing, she finally decided to go and distract herself.
She stood, meeting him in the middle of the room. “I didn’t think you cared about that kind of thing Luffy?”
“I don’t, but you do for some reason.”
Just for that, he was rewarded with a kiss as she took the paper from his hand. He smiled back at her, his chin coming to rest on her shoulder so he could look at the paper too.
She opened the paper, skipping past everything else for now, and there they were, the three of them, front and centre.
She didn’t have a chance to read the headline when something slipped out at the bottom and onto the floor. Kneeling, she picked it up and was surprised to see a coloured polaroid, the same very photo that was in the paper. It looked like it was the original.
Despite only being a little girl, she’d taken a good picture. They were all in frame, it was crystal clear and the lighting couldn’t have been better if she’d tried. Nami couldn’t stop the light chuckle at the way the light caught their gold earrings, twinkling teasingly after all the weeks she’d had them on the run for.
It was a one in a million picture and she sincerely hoped the little girl got her money.
She felt fondness blossom in her chest, for the little girl and when looking at the picture. She’d never had the chance to have a photo like this of the three of them and she patted herself on the back for the new shirts. They both looked so handsome she had to fight down the urge to squeeze Luffy.
“We look good,” Luffy said from over her shoulder and she hummed in agreement, even if she was still confused as to why they’d received a coloured version. Surely not everyone did who bought a paper?
She flipped the photo over to find scrawled handwriting, “It was part of the deal.”
She smiled.
“Lets go find Zoro and show him!” Luffy said and to anyone else, it would be a suggestion, except he was halfway across the room, without the paper and photo, calling out for Zoro.
Nami followed after him, preoccupied as she thought about where she would frame this.
