"You were not destined to only love dying things," Maglor shakes his head calmly, as if delivering a lesson. "You were destined to be someone whom dying things cannot help but love. There is a difference."

Maglor makes his yearly visit to Imladris as Elrond is cleaning up after young Estel's memorably messy handwriting lesson, and the two have a conversation about fatherhood, oaths, and the inheritance of kindness.(all works in the Feral Children series can and probably should be read standalone)

You will be fast asleep at sunrise, because you will be staying here a week at the very least," Elrond tuts, raises his eyebrows as if that was that, and waves a hand at a plush chair on the other side of Estel's bed. "Last time you left without saying goodbye, this little hellion here threw such a tantrum that Lindir considered tying him to a tree, and I considered letting him do it. If you are thinking of leaving tonight and not returning for a full year, you will take Estel with you and keep him… or you can stay."
