Work Text:

When I first met him, I was attracted to my counterpart, unlike my sisters. I mean I was five, but I have always been a person with a lot of love to share and when I saw him and his swoopy hair I just knew then and there that I liked him. It wasn’t exactly the perfect start though. I mean the first thing he did was hit me and that just threw all those loving thoughts out the window and replaced them with rage! I didn’t think about him for a while after we made them go “poof”, but when they came back, and we fought I noticed that our fights weren’t as intense as my sister were and I started to wonder if he was holding back. My name is Bubbles Utonium. I’m 18 years old and instead of going on a trip with my sisters I’m in Hell and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Everything changed when I was 6 years old. Me and my sisters and been fighting the ruffs for a while at this point. They were really the only ones who gave us any trouble really since we were so evenly matched. Our story didn’t start with a fight though. It all started when a mean boy from another class stole my Octy from me. I was walking to the park trying to hide my tears from my sisters. I cried a lot, and I didn’t want them to see me as a baby who couldn’t handle herself, so I just wanted to be alone while I figured out what to do.

I could always just take it but being super powerful comes with a lot of responsibilities and even though I was just a kid I already felt like everybody expected more from me. I couldn’t ask my sisters for help because I know they would just go beat up the boy and get Octy back for me, but I didn’t want them to be in trouble because of me. When I got to the park I sat on the swing and started to cry. I had held it in until nighttime so as not to worry my sisters, so I was all alone in the park. I wasn’t worried about bad guys…obviously so I felt secure enough by myself.

To my surprise I heard someone get into the swing next to me. I have super hearing, so I didn’t know how someone could sneak up on me but when I looked to my left there was Boomer, quietly swinging next to me. I was shocked and stopped swinging for a second wondering what Boomer was doing here.

“Are you ok Bubbles?” Boomer stared at me with a look of sincerity in his eyes. It made me let my guard down enough that silent tears started to trickle down my face and started to grow into choking sobs.

Boomer jumped out of his swing and was in front of mine giving me a hug in less than a second.

“Who hurt you, Bubs. I promise I’ll fix it” he said quietly. His voice so soft I couldn’t believe this was the same boy that I fought with all the time.

“Why do you care? I don’t understand?” I sniffled my sobs quieting down. I slowly lifted my arms to hold him back.
I could feel Boomer’s smile on my neck “You’re the love and the laughter Bubs it feels wrong seeing you cry.” He chuckled quietly still holding on to me.

It was really shocking getting comfort from my enemy of all people, but his touch and soft words had me spilling everything. How the mean boy had called me a monster and how he had taken my Octy just to hurt my feelings and how he said he was never going to give it back. Boomers’ arms tightened around me the more as I spoke. I felt like his was turning into a frown the more as I talked but I was probably imaging things. I continued to vent out my feelings. like how I felt I couldn’t do anything because of how we need to be responsible, and I told him about how sad I was feeling, along with the pressure I was under. Boomer just quietly listened.

Eventually we broke apart and Boomer and I started swinging again, but this time he held my hand as we pumped our legs slowly squeezing it every once and a while to give me comfort. It felt like hours that we were just swinging there.

Eventually we stopped and were getting ready to leave.

Before I flew off, Boomer held my shoulders looked me in the eyes and said, “Don’t worry Bubbles everything will be ok. I promise.”

His words made me smile as I got ready to take off. Befor I left I looked at him and him one last time, “Thanks Boomer” I said giving him the biggest smile I could muster before taking off towards home.

The next day as I went into class I noticed Octy sitting on my desk with a note tucked under his tentacles.

It read “That kind of Blue ain’t your colour.” I smiled and tucked it in my pocket embracing Octy tight. “Thank you” I whispered.

I later found out that my bully’s window was broken, and his stuff was thrown everywhere. Looks like Boomer helped himself to a video console and graffitied on the side of the house in big yellow letter’s “DON’T MESS WITH THE RUFFS THINGS!” Although she didn't respect vandalism or appreciate being called a “thing” very much she knew Bommer's heart was in the right place. She knew what he'd done wasn't right, but she couldn't help, but feel a little happy about it.

From then on me and Boomer would meet each other pretty often. Over the years when me and my sisters fought the Rowdy Ruff boys me and Boomer would fly out of sight and talk. We’d tell each other how our lives were going. We'd talk about our insecurities, encourage each other and cheer each other up when we felt down. Our secret meetings continued until that fateful day when everything changed the year we turned twelve. That was the year that all three of the boys enrolled in our school and we stopped fighting them entirely. The Ruff's stopped committing any crimes and announced that they just wanted to live like regular kids. I expected Blossom to question it, but surprisingly she was unfazed. It was Buttercup who looked like she didn't trust there change of heart. I on the other hand was super happy. That year me and Boomer still met up in secret but that stopped when we when we were fourteen. That was the day before the dance when Boomer did the sweetest thing.

He brought me to the playground where everything changed between us when we were six. Fairy lights decorated the equipment, there were candles with different sizes and smells positioned all around the playground, and there was Boomer. In a Blue Tux with a huge bouquet of sun flowers behind his back.

“Bubbles” he began. “You have been the love and laughter in my life for as long as I can remember. I am so glad I met you. You stopped me from feeling like I was the dumbest person in the world because there was no way the dumbest person in the world could have the smartest person like you in their life.” He smiled big. Tears were flowing from my eyes as I listened.

“Bubbles, I know we have been together for a really long time, but I have always wanted to make it official.” Boomer stepped forward and handed me the bouquet of sunflowers before taking out a box from his pocket. He opened it and sitting in the box was a corsage with a blue bell on top.

“Bubbles would you do me the honour of going to the dance with me and officially being my Girlfriend?” He said looking at me with so much hope in his eyes.

I took my free hand and started whipping the tears from my eyes before picking up the box with the other. It was the happiest moment in my life.

“Of course, Boomie I though you would never ask.” I said as I gave him a watery smile. Boomer’s smile widened as he put the corsage around my wrist before quickly pulling me to him and hugging me tight.

He launched us both into the air. The crushing hug and sudden speed destroying a bit of the flowers, but we were just too happy to care.

“I love you Bubbles.” He said looking deep into my eyes.

“I love you too Boomer” and that was when Boomer and I pulled me in for our first kiss.

It was perfect.

Me and Boomie were together openly from then on and they were the happiest years of my life. My sisters were skeptical at first, but Boomer had always been the least destructive of the three, so they approved quickly. Me and Boomer would go on dates every day and spend time with each other as much as we could at school. Every now and then we watched our siblings struggle with their own counterparts, but we didn't mind it to much. We were just happy that we never had to go through that. We knew what we wanted after all and that was each other.

Years past and we were now eighteen and High school graduation was getting closer and closer. Me and my sisters started a plan to take a year long trip together before we all went off to different schools. I decided that I was going to study to be a teacher at Townsville college so I could be close to Boomie and the Professor. Buttercup got a full ride basketball scholarship to a college in New York and Blossom was accepted into law school at a prestigious University in Massachusetts. We haven’t had to fight as much crime as of late as the Professor created a shield to prevent monster attacks and most of the villains were to intimidate by the Rowdy Ruff boys to do much of anything these days. Plus, villains like Mojo JoJo and Fuzzy were retired now so we had a lot more free time now. The city didn’t need us as much as they used to. Now we could finally live our lives how we wanted to.

After we all graduated and were set to go on our trip Boomie came to see me the day before we were set to leave.

“Boomie what’s wrong” He looked a little nervous, so I dragged him to my room and closed the door to have some privacy.

“Bubbles I really hope you won’t be mad at me, but your “girl’s trip” will unfortunately have to be delayed for a little bit” he said nervously playing with his hands.

“What so you mean delayed? How long?” I said giving him a curious look.

“Well…Maybe…For…ever?” He said.

“What!? OMG WHAT HAPPENED IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHT! WHAT’S GOING ON” I said as I started to spiral into a panic. Pacing back and forth across my room.

“Calm Down Bubs! Everything is fine! My brothers, and your sisters just need some time to work stuff out is all.”

I paused my panic subsiding as I registered what Boomer was saying. I turned around and stared at him. “What do you mean they “Have stuff to work out?” My tone becoming ominous as I stared into his eyes.

HE started to fidget some more “Look I can’t tell you right now, but I promise your sisters are ok. I actually came to pick you up. We're going to all be together for the next year” He said bringing is hands up in a gesture that said “I give up” as he smiled in an attempt to reassure her.

“Explain” I said not liking this one bit.

“Well Bubs my brothers and I need to go back to hell for a bit and since thing were some unresolved between your sisters and them, they convinced the girls to come along.” He said his eyes looking anywhere but at me.

“Convinced them, did they?” I said sarcasm lacing my voice, eyebrow raised.

“Look Bubs I know how it sounds, but you trust me don’t you?” He said looking at me with his biggest puppy dog eyes.

I sighed “Ok Boomie when are we going?”

Boomer perked up and grabbed my suitcase from my room before flipping a switch. A fiery portal immediately opened up in the middle of my room. Well I got my answer.

“I am so excited to show you around! We're going to have the best time I promise! You’ll absolutely love the lake of fire and all the cute hell creatures around. Hell also has the best castle where we can get married and…” Boomer rambled on excitedly and stopped suddenly noticing the shocked look on my face.

“Married” I whispered. Shocked.

“Oh no I am so stupid! I had the perfect plan to propose to you and everything! I even taught some hell creatures to serenade us like that movie you like….uhhhhhhh.” He looked like he was thinking so hard. He looked so cute when he was concentrating. That snapped me out of it. “Do you mean the little mermaid?” I said, as I smiled uncontrollably.

“YES! EXACTLY!” He yelled happily, throwing his hands up in relief. He cleared his throat and stared back at me, suddenly looking very serious.

“Bubbles this isn't how I meant to propose, but the moment I met you, I knew that you were the only one for me. I’ve been waiting years until we turned 18 to ask because I can’t imagine asking anyone else for the rest of my life.” Boomer knelt on one knee in front of the portal and snapped his fingers. A small box instantly appearing in his hand. My eyes started to water as I looked down at my sweet boyfriend.

“Bubbles would you make me the happiest Ruff on earth and marry me?” I stared back at him with all the love I could muster before diving into his arm. Boomer dropped the ring box to hold me tight jewellery forgotten.

“Of course, Boomie I thought you would never ask!” I cried feeling remembering the time we sat on the swings together and when he comforted me, when he asked me to be his girlfriend all those years ago at those same swings and now to this moment.. Boomie proposing to me in the middle of my room like it was the most natural thing in the world and smiled.

When Boomer asked me to be his Girlfriend I thought that was the happiest moment of my life, but clearly, I was wrong. This one was way better.

Me and Boomer hugged for a long time as I cried happy tears, before we finally broke apart. We both stood as Boomer took gave me a little bow and a wink before presenting me with his hand. I chuckled as I held his hand.

“Thank you Bubbles! I promise I'm going to make you the happiest girl in the world! Unfortunately we are going to have a long engagement while we wait for my bros and your sisters to figure out there stuff. In the meantime I'll show you around hell, and we are going to plan the perfect wedding! everybody we love will be there. I promise I'll make you the happiest girl in the world.” He said smiling a couple of tears falling from his eyes as he spoke. I couldn't help the tears running down my face again.

"Sounds wonderful Boomie." I said smiling.

Boomer sniffed and quickly whipped away his tears with his other hand.

“Are you ready?” He asked smiling down at me again.

So much has changed since I was young. I had so many happy memories of us together and I couldn’t wait to make more. I squeezed Boomer’s hand.

“I’m ready.” And with that me and Boomer walked into the portal and he did just as he promised. He made me the happiest girl in the world.
