Work Text:
There was something about thunderstorms on a hot summer night that Dean absolutely loved.
He couldn’t tell you if it was the booming sound of thunder or the cracks of lightning that flashed across the sky. It could also be the smell of ozone in the air as the warm rain hit his skin. Or maybe it was the wet dirt smell and the peculiar smell of wet asphalt.
Whatever the reason was, Dean was glad that the garage had a door for him to open and enjoy the summer rain.
Dean has been sitting out there for a couple hours now. Sitting comfortably in a lawn chair with his feet propped up against an old ice chest. He was maybe on his second beer of the night, just drinking to enjoy the warmth in the air.
Over the crack of lightning, he hears soft footsteps join him in the garage. Without having to look behind him, Dean reached over and pulled another chair closer. He silently offered another beer as Cas flopped down next to him.
The freshly turned human was wearing a pair of thin pants and Dean’s old Led Zeppelin shirt. The two of them sat in silence as the storm continued around them.
A flash of lightning, followed by silence, caused Dean to start counting.
“One Mississippi. Two Mississippi. Three Missi….”
A crack of thunder cut them off before he could finish the count.
“2 1/2 miles” he mumbled. “The storm is gonna be over soon.”
Cas just shrugged that Dean.
“Let’s just sit here and wait it out then” Cas replied.
“Sounds good to me Angel.”
Dean reached over and grabbed Cas’ hand. A comfortable silence fell over them as they continued watching and listening to the storm outside their bubble.
