The sun was rising on the horizon, rays of light passed through the gaps in the blinds. The two boys were lying down holding hands. They both didn't need to work that day, after all that mess. A new girl was running the CIA, Five was a little apprehensive since she reminded him of The Handler, but Derek reassured him with that. This girl was a sweetheart, she was touched by their situation, Five decided he wanted to retire, she reminded him that if he wanted to work with them again they would have their arms open, so she left Derek with a few weeks of vacation.
So the two of them were lying peacefully and just relaxing. Mr. Pennycrumb was in his giant bed that was more comfortable than Five's bed. Five said he really wanted a dog since he was a kid so he really wants to spoil Mr. Pennycrumb, Mr. Pennycrumb didn't seem to care. It was a very cold day, but with a very beautiful sun. It was a soft light but it was warm but pleasant.
Derek was the first to wake up. Then he hugged Five without waking him up and kissed him on his forehead. Derek knew that Five was an irregular sleeper, so he thought it best not to wake him. Mr. Pennycrumb was asleep and snoring loudly but softly.
Derek felt a tightness, Five squeezed Derek tighter.
“Good morning” Derek said quietly and as gently as possible. But he couldn't keep the silly smile off his face. “Hm” That was how Five said good morning when he woke up.
The two were completely different when they woke up. Derek woke up already excited and Five needed seven cups of coffee to really wake up. Derek is very similar to a dog when he wakes up and wants to do a thousand things and Five is a cat who was suddenly woken up and wanted to sleep again.
After a few more minutes we were lying down. They got up Derek was already getting ready and Five… well he was still stretching. Well again a cat and a dog together. Mr. Pennycrumb was already on Five's side, and he was greeted with countless kisses to wake him up. Derek could only hold back his laughter. But eventually the two were dressed up and ready for another day. Five was drinking a simple black coffee and Derek was drinking mint tea with honey. Derek had prepared a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich for Five and Five had prepared a sandwich with fresh strawberries, strawberry jam and whipped cream for Derek. They ate in comfortable silence and Mr. Pennycrumb was lying on the carpet just chewing on a toy, the boy had already eaten and he wasn't the vacuum cleaner kind of dog who would eat whatever fell on the floor. What was strange about Five. But Derek just stated that he is a very polite little dog.
A ringing sound echoed through the house. Mr. Pennycrumb was polite, but sometimes he barked at the boys who delivered the orders, and the poor things got scared of him. So Five just petted him so he wouldn't bark. And Derek went to answer the door. Coming back there was a gray envelope in his hand.
“It's for you Five, it has very complicated lyrics to read to say the least. But compared to your handwriting it's very easy to read” Derek said smiling and handed the envelope to Five. “It’s Diego’s” He said putting his hand in front of his mouth, as he was still eating. Five opened and read the letter, the boy was quiet. “So….what do you say?” “Family Reunion” “Isn’t that good?” Five sighed heavily. “Sort of” Derek looked at him. “Do you want to see them?” “I would like to..but..er…do you want to come with me?” “But of course Five” “Are you sure? They're quite...complicated” Derek took Five's hands and said. “Well I have to meet your family sometime, don’t I?” Five looked at Derek. “I really didn’t want to reveal our relationship now, you know?” “Of course, super understandable, after I get to know them better and they get to know me, we’ll talk, okay?” Five smiles and nods slightly.
The meeting was at night. Five called Diego if he could take Mr. Pennycrumb along and even thought the name was a bit hilarious but quickly said yes.
The two decided to wear matching suits. Five wore a dark navy blue suit and Derek wore a very dark red suit that looked black along with a close scarf made by Five, and to add to this mix Mr. Pennycrumb wore a black tie on top of the collar that is magenta blue (pms 267 )
Diego's house was far away, but if he made a few trips he could get there quickly. The two decided to go on foot, also because of Mr. Pennycrumb, he is a walking tank. During the walk to get to Five's brother's house, Derek decides that the best thing would be to share his scarf, so Five holds Mr. Pennycrumb's leash in one hand and Derek's hand in the other. Derek was a walking heater on cold days and Five was a popsicle on hot days. Five starts to smell smoke throughout, and Derek and Mr. Pennycrumb quickly notice, so Derek gives Five a kiss on the cheek. He whispers that it's okay and Five kisses him in response. Mr. Pennycrumb raises his paw and Five catches it, he puts his paw down.
In front of Diego's house, Five looked at Derek and the boy with blonde hair and glasses smiled at him. Then Five knocks on the door.
It was quite common for the atmosphere in the Hargreeves home to be chaotic. People are always talking and happy. Well, it was to be expected that it would be that way, living in an environment controlled by a crazy old man who hated noises, even the smallest ones. But this made the family more agitated, but this is not to be taken negatively or to think that this was very positive.
Diego approaches the door and opens it. "Five!!! I'm glad you're here!? Mercy, what a big dog.” Five just rolls his eyes, but still smiles when he sees his brother. “It's good to see you too, Diego.” Diego expected a smile from ear to ear until he saw Derek. “I'm sorry, who are you? ” Derek adjusted his glasses. “Hi! You must be Diego, I’m Derek, Five’s friend.” Diego stressed with a mocking smile and said “Friend? I know... but anyway, come in. And Five, if that flea pees on my carpet and I’ll kill you.” Five, now with a smile that hid all his desire to kill Diego, just nods in agreement with him.
The two boys enter the house. Mr. Pennycrumb just sat there waiting patiently for the two, both took off their shoes. Then they both took off each other's coats, a simple gesture but it was how they showed their love. This family gathering was a dinner with everyone well dressed. Coco and Stan had clothes they wore at home, but Grace was wearing a very elegant light blue dress (such a cute little thing), the children were in the living room, the twins sleeping in their rooms and Grace playing and humming. "UNCLE FIVE" Grace said as she quickly got up and hugged Five. "Good night Grace, how are you dear?" He hugged her back. "Who is this Uncle Five?" "This is my friend Grace, Grace this is Derek and Derek this is Grace." Grace seemed enchanted by the boy with glasses and blond hair. "He looks like a prince charming!! Just like Cinderella's prince! Is he your prince Uncle Five?" Both boys blushed slightly and looked at each other. "He is a great friend of mine Grace, he helped me through a very difficult time for me. Would that count with a Prince Charming?” Derek said in a soft voice and patted her head. “I think so. I like you, Uncle Derek!”
They both stayed a little to play with Grace. Grace also loved Mr. Pennycrumb, the dog didn’t care if she put stickers on him. Grace loved Five because he taught her really cool things like chemistry for example. She started to get tired so they took her to her room and locked her up. “Your niece is very cute” “Yes, she’s very curious, always coming to me with some question. “I’m a little surprised that you can handle children well” Five gave a light laugh.
Arriving in the dining room. Some family members had already arrived. “Good night Five” Sloane said hugging him, Sloane exists, she was just the first to arrive in the world and she wandered the streets until she ended up in front of an antique store and that’s where Luther and Klaus found her. “Good night to you too Five” It was a very stupid joke but very sweet since they are both number fives. Everyone looked at Derek without understanding and both boys and Mr. Pennycrumb. Diego looked at them and smiled mischievously. “It’s Five’s boyfriend and his flea-bitten dog” It turned into chaos, everyone asking at the same time. Everyone discussing how the hell Five or Five’s purpose could get a boyfriend. Sloane hugging Derek and Five, both of them getting embarrassed. The goal was kind of NOT to tell them that they had been prepared, but it backfired. Lila was teasing Five the whole time, she was just telling him to go fuck himself. Derek was talking to Alisson, Luther, Klaus and Victor, both of them loving his presence. Diego was well... in shock because it should have been just a bad joke but it was real, my god he needed a beer. He didn’t know how to deal with Derek but from his analysis and their few interactions he was a nice boy, still a little suspicious, but anyway.
Ben arrived. He kind of arrived at the wrong time. Because it was still a mess. Everyone was talking loudly (not shouting because of the kids) and arguing, not something bad, but it was a calm and happy discussion. Mr. Pennycrumb was by the door just napping peacefully. Ben looks at the dog that looked like a tank but with a lot of fur.
Ben pets the dog, because petting a little animal is mandatory. Can he be an idiot? Yes, but at least he's not an idiot with children and little animals.
Derek was talking to Viktor, the calmest person by the way. Five was helping Sloane in the kitchen and Lila and Luther were setting the table. When Ben arrived in the living room everyone looked at him.
"BEN! How are you??" Luther stopped setting the table and went towards Ben to give him a hug. "Hi to you too Ben" Lila said, focusing more on setting the table than greeting Ben. "Whose dog is that?" Ben said, shaking Luther's hand. He wasn't a big fan of hugging, but he liked to shake hands. "It's mine," Five said, running his hands over his apron. He wasn't wearing a tie or blazer so he wouldn't get dirty. "It's good to see you, Ben," he said, extending his hand. "I say the same." Everyone greeted Ben. Even Ben was nice to Derek.
That family welcomed another member, and was welcomed with happiness and chaos. Even with arguments and fights, they can be kind to each other. It's always good to have hands that can help you when you need it most. Even when going through difficulties, the most important people would always be with you and support you in everything.
This family is dysfunctional, but still. They have always been there for their family. So Derek can be happy that he will be with people who will always be there for him in the hardest times.
