Work Text:
It was a nice Friday afternoon and the sun was warming her bare legs and made the gloss on her lips shine beautifully. Motoya was confident, she made sure that today would be the perfect day. This week was golden week, so kids didn’t go to school, which also meant that Motoya had the week off as well. She went shopping for a pretty outfit with Kiyoomi (much to the girl’s despair), went to the hairdresser and got her nails done the day before.
Nothing could get in between her and her date this time.
They’ve been trying to get together for a date for months , but their schedule always crashed badly. Motoya wasn’t available during the weekdays because of her work as a kindergarten teacher. Osamu worked night shifts at her restaurant and Rin, who had the most flexible schedule among the three of them, always teased them about it.
She would sometimes surprise Motoya and come pick her up at work. Motoya would perk up at the sound of her bike outside and would rush to greet her, jumping on her girlfriend that barely had the time to get off her engine.
They would go to have dinner at Osamu’s restaurant, Motoya holding Rin’s waist tightly as she sits behind her on her bike. And those evenings were truly her favorites. Happily chatting with Rin about the progress her students (or her little stars as she likes to call them) made that day, Osamu dropping their favorite food and taking part in the conversation when it’s not too busy. If it’s a Friday, they’ll help Osamu close off the shop and stay over for the night, not yet ready to say goodbye.
But today was different. It was an official date since they’ve been “together”. Motoya was really looking forward to this day. It was the perfect occasion for her to let them know how she really feels.
The stolen kisses, the lingering hands on her skin or the burning gazes seeing through her deepest desires, Motoya couldn’t get enough of it. But she was nervous. After all, she never actually knew what she was to Rin and Osamu. She’s a variable in their equation, a stain on their canvas. A part of her mind kept whispering to her ‘Do you really fit in?’ and it was slowly choking her.
Osamu and Rin have been together since high school. Motoya, freshly out of college and freshly out of the closet as well, who, on the spur of the moment during her trip in Hyogo, went to a piercer shop to get her earlobes pierced. What a surprise when she met eyes with the most breathtaking woman she’s ever seen, it got her breathless.
Motoya can recall this moment so vividly. The smile on Rin’s face and her soft chuckle as she leaned on the counter. She was wearing a tight Gun N’ Roses top that seemed to be hand cut to be made as a crop top. The cut hem was customized with chains and safety pins that shine brighter on her tattooed skin. She had so many piercings and Motoya swore she was just looking at the dangling necklaces around her neck and nothing else-
“What can I get for you today, Princess?”
The blush on Motoya’s cheeks was more than noticeable as she looked at Rin’s amused gaze. That was their first interaction together.
She dreamt of Rin’s hot breath against her ears as she was pushing the needle into her skin for a week straight after that.
…
Time went flashing after those events. She got a job as a teacher’s assistant at a kindergarten in Tokyo. She left after two years. She couldn’t stand those old geezers that would openly flirt with her in front of their child, telling her that she would make a ‘great wife’ and that her future ‘husband’ would be the lucky one.
She didn’t have the courage to tell them at that time that she would rather end her days alone than with a man.
After that, she got a proposition for a job in a kindergarten in Hyogo and immediately accepted it, being already familiar with the area. The position was also better. She was finally going to teach instead of sitting behind the teacher.
And fate somehow must have been on her side since then. When she arrived in front of her building with her two luggages she looked desperately at the elevator with the note “elevator down” tapped on the doors.
Her new apartment is on the fifth floor. And those luggages aren’t exactly lightweight.
She was considering her options, mumbling to herself when she felt a hand on her shoulder, letting out an embarrassing yelp of surprise.
She turned around and dark gray eyes were looking at her, Motoya also noticed the corner of her lips curved into an amused smile.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare ya.” She could feel the woman’s gaze going up and down her figure. Motoya looked away, her cheeks red.
Osamu looked at her, then the two luggages and finally the broken down elevator.
“Do ya need help carrying these?” She asked, pointing at the two suitcases and the light of hope that flashed through Motoya’s eyes was quite endearing.
“O-oh you don’t have to really!”
“Ya sure?”
“Huh…”
Osamu let out a chuckle, rolling up the sleeves of her shirt.
“On which floor do ya live?”
“The fifth one…”
“Oh. Seems like we’re gonna see each other a lot then.” She takes the two suitcases, one in each hand, and has to hold back her laughter when she hears Motoya gasp behind her.
“R-Really..?” She managed to let out, feeling bad that Osamu had to carry her stuff alone.
“Yeah. My girlfriend lives there too.”
When they arrived on the fifth floor. Osamu didn’t even break a sweat and Motoya didn’t know whether to be amazed or extremely turned on by that.
“Thank you so much for your help hum-”
“Osamu. Miya Osamu.”
“Thank you so much for your help, Miya-san.” She says with a polite bow, some strands of hair falling from her bun in the gesture.
“No need to be so formal! We’re practically neighbors so we better get along!” She laughed wholeheartedly.
“Why do ya act like you live here, huh?” They heard a voice behind them. The door next to Motoya’s apartment opened. And much to Motoya’s surprise, the figure resting on the doorframe had a familiar face. That was rather hard to forget.
“Ooh~ Well it’s nice to see ya again, Princess. I love yer new earrings. They’re as cute as ya.”
Maybe moving to Hyogo was the best decision Motoya ever made after all
…
Five years went by after this. Three years in which she was just a ‘friend’ pining for her two best friends. Rin finally moved out with Osamu after the opening ceremony of Onigiri Miya. To which Motoya was invited.
She knew how important this restaurant was for Osamu. She dressed pretty for the occasion. It was still hot outside despite summer reaching its end so Motoya decided on a long and thin flower dress with puffy sleeves. She tied the bow on the front of the dress and also on her wrists. She also let her hair down for the occasion, only braiding the two front strands of her hair, tying them in the back with a daisy shaped hair clip.
When she arrived in front of the restaurant, she was almost in tears. She was so happy to see Osamu’s dream achieved. To look at that restaurant that she worked so hard for to open, after all these months. She pushed the door and the little bell at the top echoed in the place.
“Toya! Ya made it!” Osamu cheered happily, coming up to her to hug her tightly.
She was wearing a black see through top with lace details, topping it up with a nice suit and a silver belt. She buttoned only the middle button, hiding what needed to be hidden but enough to show the details of her shirt. She styled her hair back, showing her freshly made undercut. She looked amazing and Motoya had to fight herself to not stare for too long.
“Of course! I wouldn’t miss that for anything. I’m so proud of you, Samu.” She replies, her eyes watering.
“Hey, that’s not the time for tears yet! I brought more beer!” Rin appeared from the door. She hugged Motoya from behind and looked back at Osamu.
“But she’s right. We’re proud of ya.”
“I wouldn’t have done it without ya two. Now come, everyone’s waiting!”
Motoya took a step forward but Rin tightened her arm around her waist.
“Rin?” She turned her head and was stunned for a second by how close they were, feeling her cheeks reddening.
Her outfit was matching Osamu’s. A simple black dress with off shoulder long sleeves. The dress was pretty simple by itself but Rin added black fishnet tights with a flower pattern and her usual biker jacket and boots that complimented her height perfectly. Not to forget all of her silver necklaces that she created herself and her piercings. Motoya always loved looking at them up close. She also added a pop of color with bright red lips.
“Ya look pretty. New dress?” Rin whispered, taking Motoya out of her thoughts.
“Oh- hum! Yeah… I bought it earlier this week to wear it today…”
“Looks amazing on ya, Sweetheart.” She gives her another smile before letting go of her waist, walking towards the table where everyone was happily chatting and leaving a very flustered and stunned Motoya behind.
She doesn’t remember much of that night after that. Only that it was the first step of whatever tension they had been building up without even her even noticing. But the hickeys and bites Motoya found on her chest and neck, with the smear of red lipstick the next morning, was a pretty good indicator of what had happened.
And just like that, two more years went by in which she was more than just a friend. But what exactly? That’s what Motoya was dying to know.
She woke up earlier than usual, taking her time in the shower and singing her favorite songs. She opted for a light makeup that highlighted perfectly the natural color of her cheeks and put her hair in space buns, her favorite way to style them lately.
She’s been experimenting a lot with her wardrobe too. Having Osamu and Rin’s praises and compliments on outfits she took the time to put together has given her just the confidence she needed to wear what makes her really happy.
She thrifted a cute pink top with puffy short sleeves. It almost looked like a strawberry with the green collar and bows on the sleeves. She paired it with a white skirt that reached just above her knees. She added a heart shaped bag, cherry earrings and a pink choker to complete the look.
She put her shoes on the threshold, pretty white heels that tied at her ankle. She checked her makeup one last time in the mirror to make sure everything looked okay.
“Okay! You can do this Komori Motoya.” She said to herself before leaving her apartment.
She arrived at the coffee shop a little earlier than what they agreed on. She texted the group chat letting them know, which quickly followed by a reply from Rin, saying they were on their way. She smiled and put her phone away, looking at the menu of the coffee shop while she waited. She was too absorbed by the food to notice someone come up to her side.
“Excuse me…” The man started, a little too close.
“Y-yes?!” Replied Motoya, caught off guard. She took a step back.
“Ah, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you! You see I’m in a bit of trouble…”
“Really..?”
“Y-Yeah! You see, I lost my phone number so could I perhaps borrow yours..?”
Motoya furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, tilting her head to the side.
“What?”
“I was wondering if I could borrow your phone number, since I lost mine-”
“What? No sorry I don’t get it. How do you even lose a phone number in the first place?” She was just getting more confused and a little nervous because the man was rather insistent. She sighed mentally. She just wanted to have a nice day.
…
“Ya took too much time to get ready, Rin.” Both Osamu and Rin were walking down the street to meet up with Motoya.
“I told ya, I dropped the earring Toya gifted me in the sink! It’s a miracle I managed to get it out.”
“Ya could’ve just worn something else! We’re gonna be late now!” She replied checking the time on her watch.
“Now you’re just being dramatic, look we’re here-” Rin stopped in her tracks, squinting her eyes at the facade of the coffee shop.
“What’s wrong? Why did ya stop?”
“Samu, look.” Osamu’s face closed up and she didn’t think twice before making her way towards Motoya, soon followed by Rin.
“Sorry I don’t understand… What do you mean you lost your phone number and you would like mine? How do you lose a phone number?”
The man was, however, no longer looking at Motoya who was still very confused. The two looming shadows behind her were enough of a warning of upcoming doom for the man, whose face turned completely white.
“Ahem. Can we help ya by any chance?” Osamu spoke, but the tone of her voice was cold as ice. Motoya turned around and smiled brightly.
“Rinrin! Samu!” Rin just smiled and winked at her before flashing her attention back on the man.
“Yeah, do we have a problem here? Why are ya making our girlfriend uncomfortable? She’s not interested.”
“No! Nope, not at all! I wasn’t doing anything at all! I was just about to go anyway! Have a nice day!” They watched the man run in the opposite direction as fast as he could, finally turning their attention to Motoya.
“Are ya okay, Toya?” Osamu asked worriedly, putting her hand on her waist. Motoya’s hand rested on Osamu's forearm as she looked at Rin with glossy eyes.
“Toya baby, did he hurt you anywhere? Should we-” Rin stepped closer too, worry painted all over her features.
“W-What did you call me?”
“Baby?”
“No no! Before that!”
“… Our girlfriend?”
“I’m your girlfriend?!”
Osamu and Rin looked at each other in utter confusion and shock before looking back at Motoya.
“Sweetheart, what do ya think ya were? We love ya, of course yer our girlfriend. I mean we’ve been kissing and getting together for the past two years-” Said Osamu seriously, which somehow made Motoya even more emotional.
“But! You two never actually said it! So I was worried that- that I was just a friend with benefits or something like that!”
“Toya, we would never toy with yer feelings like that.” Rin took her hand and kissed the inside of her wrist lovingly.
“We never thought that’s what you’ve been thinking about all this time. I’m so sorry.”
“Your black lipstick left a stain…” She pouted, looking at her wrist. Rin smiled.
“And ya love it.”
“Hm…”
“So how about we go on with this date? We’ve been looking forward to it, ya know?” Added Osamu. She kept her hand on the small of Motoya’s back to guide her inside the coffee shop, Rin opening the door for the both of them.
…
“By the way, Toya. Did ya know what this guy wanted?”
“Hm? Oooh.. Nope. I have no idea, he was a little weird too.” She said, happily munching on her slice of strawberry shortcake.
Osamu and Rin looked at each other and went back to Motoya.
“He was hitting on ya.” Replied Osamu, which almost made Motoya choke on her food.
“What?!”
