Mass Mania!

Summary:

At the age of 4 years old, Izuku Midoriya did get a quirk. It's power? Causing manic episodes and intense feelings of mania in those around him. An overall strange quirk that makes no sense and yet Izuku is still determined to be a hero, however insane he may be.

Notes:

This is my third ever fic and possibly my first ever completed fic. Feel free to criticize and critique. Some things I already have planned, such as his quirk and the main ship(don't judge me I wanted a rare pair and I also really love the ship.), but others I don't. Feel free to suggest ideas!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: My glorious 4th birthday.

Chapter Text

Okay so, let's start at the beginning. The whole universe was in a hot dense state and nearly 14 billion years ago- well probably not that beginning. The beginning of quirks! A baby was born, with the weird lil trait of literally glowing. This was the first ever appearance of quirks! Glorious little powers that almost every child was born with after the first appearance. Including me! My story starts when I was 4, and my quirk manifested.

Back when Izuku was 4...

"Oh my god kacchan is so cool!" Was the only thing he could think about in that moment. His best friend has gotten his quirk and it was amazing! He could make explosions! Apparently his sweat could be ignited which caused it to explode. Even while he was thinking about that, another thought lingered in the back of his head.

When will I get my quirk? Was a question he thought about a lot. I mean it would definitely be something cool right? Everything was cool!
...
Hey since when was he this optimistic? It didn't really matter but he was curious! And he felt so happy, like floating on a cloud over a sea of happiness and all the little droplets of water were rising towards him. Of course, this was not unnoticed by the teacher, seeing on her students wearing the widest smile she had ever seen with a crazed look in his eyes.

"Hey buddy, are you alright there?" She asked, mildly concerned.

"Yeah! I feel like I could do anything! Don't you feel the same?" He asked with a smile, feeling a slight tug on his brain, and suddenly the teacher was smiling too!

"Now that you mention it, I do! I could do anything with my life! I could marry that guy I'm cheating on my boyfriend with, or finally quit this stupid job!" She said, before suddenly the smile faded. "Wait, why did I say that?" She said seeming bewildered, before snapping out of it and looking towards Izuku, chuckling nervously. "Buddy, I think your quirk manifested. I'm gonna go call your mom, I'll be right back." She practically ran to go call Ms. Midoriya, leaving behind a confused Izuku.

What does she mean I got my quirk? And what's an affair? That doesn't matter, I got my quirk! I wonder what it is...either way I'll be a great hero with it! I'll be able to do anything with it!

Half an hour later and Inko was picking up her son, who still had that impossibly wide smile on his face and crazed looking eyes. She was concerned to say the least, and quickly drove to a quirk counselor. A few hours later, and she knew what her son's quirk was. The doctor just called it mania, which she didn't really understand until he explained.

"Ms. Midoriya, mania is usually a symptom of bipolar. It causes unreasonably high happiness and optimism, along with delusion and delirium. Your son's quirk seems to be that he is in a constant state of mania, and can put others in the same state as himself, overcome by mania. While not necessarily bad, this could cause issues. I would recommend starting him on bipolar medication to counteract his quirk, and to go see a quirk trainer to help his control his quirk." He said, handing her a business card for a local quirk specialist and trainer. "Also, I would recommend getting his quirk registered. You can wait until he's older but it's necessary by the time he's 6."

Inko was...surprised to say the least. And more than a little concerned. On her way out she stopped by a pharmacy to order him some bipolar medication, and hoped it would get here soon. Her son was already excitable, she didn't want to see him in a manic state 24/7. I mean, can he even sleep with his quirk? And while she could never be afraid of her little boy, it was still a little scary to think about being stuck in the same state her son was in, happy to the point of delusion. She just hopes he can control it well...

Notes:

First chapter finished! Next chapter will be a time skip, well, more like a recap of what happens during the time skip and then the next chapter takes place after the time skip. I hope I did a good job of explaining Izuku's quirk, it's a little complicated so feel free to look up what mania is exactly. Do keep in mind I myself don't have bipolar, so some stuff may be wrong or not how things work in terms of the bipolar medication and such, but I have had my fair share of manic episodes and actually got the idea for this fic during one so I should hopefully be able to portray it well. Until I get more motivated to write, toodaloo!
