Chapter Text
The android’s eyes opened to a bright blue sky with a few clouds drifting by. She got up and looked around. Every place seemed to be made of metal, some of it looking rusted. She noticed two big cranes, one with a claw, and one with a magnet. There was a conveyor belt and big machines that looked like they could crush any piece of metal flat. Then it hit the android on where she was.
She was in a scrapyard. But why?
The android looked around the scrapyard and came across a big sheet of what looked like aluminum. She noticed that she could see herself in the mirror, and took a good look at herself. She ran her hand through her bright pink and blue hair. Her white sweatshirt, mismatched socks, and bright pink boots looked fine, if a little dirty. The long wire from her back wasn’t tattered, and she looked pretty good when she saw herself in the mirror, front, sides, and back.
Then why was she in the scrapyard then? It didn’t seem like she belonged here.
Maybe the answers weren’t in the scrapyard, but outside of it. The android looked for a way outside of the scrapyard. She saw a fence and, without thinking, ran to the fence to climb it. She got to the top, but then looked down at the height she had to climb down. The android hesitated for a moment, but didn’t even need to decide whether or not to climb down, as she lost her balance and fell face first on the pavement. She got back up and then realized something else.
Who even was she? What was she created for? And what was her name? Did she even have a name?
Maybe if she explored the city a little, something might provide an answer. Her memories may be completely erased, and she may never have them truly restored, but whatever answer she receives would be a new memory just like the ones that were erased, right?
The android looked around at all the places the city had, from cafes, to arcades, to little shops. She noticed a little candy shop and decided to go in and check it out.
The shop had all types of little sweets inside. Colorful candy lined the shelves, and the whole shop smelled very sweet. She saw a little box of pocky, and picked it up, wondering if she would like it, or if she even liked it in the past. “Hey there, do you like what you see?”
The android jumped at the voice, and when she turned around and saw a kind looking man in a red-striped apron standing right there, she tensed up. She quickly placed the box of pocky on the shelf and tried to look up at the man. “I-I do, but I think I, well, I don’t want to buy it r-right now.” The android was trembling a little, and wanted to get out of there as quickly as she could.
“It’s alright, you can come back someday when you do feel like getting something from here.”
“Thank you goodbye!” The android ran out of the store and through the streets. When she calmed down, she walked down the streets as normal. But then people started to say hello to her and start conversation, and all of it made the android nervous. She didn’t respond to them and walked away from everyone quickly. Was she always this nervous around people?
The android kept wandering, looking at everything, looking for something that might provide a clue to the answer to her questions, when she heard someone shout behind her, “Dorothy!”
