Chapter Text
“So… we’re sending Kenji-kun?” Atsushi asked. “Um, not to offend, but I haven’t exactly seen him ever acting or whatnot.”
“Yeah, we’re sending Kenji-kun,” Dazai confirmed. “The only other kid here is Kyouka-chan, and she’d attract too much attention.” Then he paused, frowning for a second. “But who’ll pose as the guardian?”
“I can…” Tanizaki offered. “I feel like I’m the most normal here.
True. Tanizaki was the most normal… in a sense.
“Besides,” Ranpo added with his usual boredom. “We can’t send the President–he’s the President for a reason.”
Kunikida looked like he wanted to argue about the Kenji being their candidate after he’d been shut down just thirty seconds ago, but he refrained from it. After all, his colleagues had a point.
———Flashback———
“An anonymous tip requesting us to send someone to UA.” Kunikida announced. “They want us to reply by tomorrow evening.”
“What does it say?” Atsushi asked.
Kunikida read the documents. (Although, he was probably re -reading them.) “To summarize, they really just want us to send someone there. Get the experience, probably. However, there’s probably more to it as the sender has hidden their location. We are unable to track where it came from.”
Almost subconsciously, Atsushi glances at Ranpo, who snorts. “Don’t look at me, it’s not like the anonymous sender means us any harm. We don’t need to know where it’s come from.”
It was a strange sight to see Yosano suddenly back down once she heard that. It seemed that she’d had her own doubts about this until Ranpo shut them down.
“But hold on, can’t you at least find out roughly where it’s from?” Tanizaki mentioned. “It’s to help UA, right? So the request should’ve come from Musutafu, right?”
“That’s correct,” Kunikida confirmed. “If you’re wondering why we’re even considering taking this request, it’s because, if this is a true tip, it won’t affect just that area, but all of Japan, including Yokohama, even if it isn’t officially part of Japan.”
———Flashback End———
Kenji’s naïve-like manner made him the perfect candidate. He was so docile and honest, nobody’d know his skills as an actor at first glance. They’d have to know him well to be able to tell when he’s faking something.
“So, that’s that,” Yosano concluded, her eyes closed. “Kenji-kun’s going to the school. Any precautions we should take?”
This was what they came up with with the single tip: Don’t let them know you have an Ability.
Kenji’s “quirk” shouldn’t get weaker due to food intake - food intake is supposed to give energy, not take it away.
Kenji should pretend that the Armed Detective Agency is an adoptive family–otherwise Tanizaki couldn’t act as the guardian.
Kenji would still need some kind of limit to his “quirk”.
- “How about… an after-one-hour kind of thing?” No, that’s too uncommon.
- “Just make it so it has a limit when you’re calm. That’s pretty similar to your actual Ability, so it should be fine that way.”
- "Makes sense." Kenji nodded, contemplating it in his head. "I'll keep that in mind."
