Summary
In a world with far more alphas and omegas being born every year, most people hypothesize that the dwindling betan birth rates are due to evolution removing something unnecessary. Possessing senses of smell too weak to detect all the nuances in pheromones and being sterile from birth, the useless beta subgender cannot have a true mate, seeing as it is so incompatible with the procreation process.
