Chapter Text

As time went on, Kevin continued to visit Scott and the others, becoming close to them, and in a way became closer to Nick, seeing a different side to the younger man he honestly never thought to look for. He also continued to grow his relationship with Scott's parents once the initial awkwardness of seeing them in an alternate way wore off. Not only that, but he also was introduced to Scott's brothers and other members of his family, it was surreal yet comforting at the same time.

Now though, Scott was ready to take Kevin to the place he had mentioned a few weeks before.

“Ready to go?” Scott asked.

“Yeah.”Kevin answered, laying his hand on Scott's shoulder. With him not knowing where they were going, Kevin couldn't visualize the location so he had to rely on his counterpart.

They stepped into the mirror and soon Kevin found himself in a place he knew well. Letting go of the man in front of him, Kevin began to walk up the hill towards the building, Scott following. They got to the door, Scott pulling out the keys.

“Wanna go in?” He asked.

Still not able to form words, Kevin simply nodded watching Scott slipped the key in and turning the lock, and opening the door going in. Kevin walked in and closed the door behind him.

Everything looked exactly the same as it did back home, from the high ceilings to the windows.

“It looks…”

“Like home?”

Kevin turned looking at Scott, a small smile had graced his face and walked to Kevin's side. “Dad saw what Jerald was doing with his camp and wanted something like that here, he never expected your Dad to replicate it like this.”

“So all this?”

“Is from your Father, you won't find an ounce of AI here. Go ahead, look around.” Scott encouraged.

Kevin walked around coming to a hallway. Taking a breath he headed down, coming to a room at the end. He wasn't sure what he'd find but what he saw wasn't what he was expecting.

Sitting there was the piano that started his path to music. Scott had caught up to the other man.

“I..It's just like the one at home.” Kevin spoke softly.

“Your Dad was so proud of you.”

Kevin looked at him as Scott nodded. “He wanted to make sure there was a music element. Wanna play it?”

“Really?” Kevin asked, surprised.

“Yeah, of course. I've kind of always wanted to see you play.” Scott replied.

Kevin walked over and opened the lid revealing the keys and sat down on the bench. He let out a breath and began to play, letting his fingers lead. Scott sat down beside him and simply watched and listened.

Kevin was lost in the sound of the piano, the feeling of the keys under his fingers, and for the first time, he felt a sense of peace wash over him, as if he had finally been able to truly accept his Father was gone. He finished the song and lowered his arms looking over at Scott, not realizing the tears had been falling.

“We both grew up in a pretty special way.”

“Yeah, we truly did.”

Kevin closed the lid and the men headed out, Scott locking the door behind them. They walked around the grounds, reminiscing about the past and what each of them did when the camps were running. Most of it was the same, with some difference in between.

They had found a spot to sit for a moment, both men taking in the scenery around them, the sounds of the birds, a steam of water flowing nearby. Kevin felt like he truly was back home in Kentucky.

Scott looked at his counterpart and could see something was bothering him.

“Kev, is there something on your mind?” He asked.

“I was just thinking, since my boys don't have a counterpart, would there be any reason for them to keep the mirror you know…”

“Techinally no, but for sentimental value maybe. It's been in your family for generations but mirrors have been sold and were able to help another.”

Kevin thought about what he was told and in a way he liked the idea of his family's mirror helping someone else.

“But course, you're not going anywhere anytime soon I hope.” Scott chuckled playfully.

“I hope not, but you never know and I was just curious.” Kevin replied, giving a reassuring smile.

They stayed at the campground for a bit longer before making a quick trip to visit Wayne and Lyde. Scott and Kevin finally made their way back to the house and Kevin knew he needed to be getting back.

The rest of the tour went by quick, Kevin and Nick hopping back and forth when they could. Something else had happened that had been noticed by himself and the others, Kevin wasn't hounding Nick over being too handsy with Brian on stage like he used to do, when asked about it Kevin simply shrugged and said if Brian had warned Nick to back off and the blonde wouldn't then he would step in otherwise he realized it's just Nick's way of keeping his bond with the older man secured.

When Kevin returned home he was greeted with a shock and slight panic when he walked into the bedroom and saw the mirror gone. Kris quickly calmed his worries and told him she kept running into the furniture in their room so her and the boys carefully took it down to the basement where she had much more space and room to dance in front of it. Kevin sighed in relief and realized they had unknowingly taken care of his issue and worry about Kris waking up and catching him coming back through the mirror.

Kevin never thought looking in a mirror like he'd done countless times would ever lead to him finding an amazing world beyond the reflection he saw.
