Work Text:
Yoongi is calm.
In his entire 16-year career of being a rapper and 12 of being an idol, he's never been more than a little nervous except for his first debut showcase 12 years ago. No, he was calm even when he was facing rappers 10 years older than him when he was 14, so he has no reason to be this terrified.
"Yoongi," Yoongi hears fingers tapping on his worktable as the other man stared at air.
Even during the time where he had to take an award on behalf of PDogg where he was informed the last minute was nothing. It was just doing up the stage and taking a trophy.
"Yoongi!" Yoongi flinched when his table bounced on the impact of a strong slap on it, his speaker shaking a little bit. "Yoongi, are you listening to me?"
"Of course, Seokjin-hyung." Yoongi shakes his head and adjusts his seat, trying to stop himself from bouncing his knees. "Your mother discovered we're dating."
"Yes." Seokjin leans back on his chair, hugging the cat plush Yoongi recognizes as his congratulatory gift from the same man in front of him.
"And she wants to meet me."
"That's right."
"Are you sure this is not to offer me money and stay as far away from you as possible?"
Seokjin gapes at him. "I'll double whatever she has to offer, asshole."
Yoongi chuckles back the fear building at the back of his throat. He's calm.
"Next week, she says."
Yoongi thinks if one week is enough to fake his death.
"And no, you will not fake your death to get out of this." Seokjin deadpans at him. "I'll drag you out of hell if I have to just so you will attend."
Yoongi fakes an incredulous look at Seokjin. "I'm not going to fake my death. It's just your mother."
Seokjin snorts at him. "Your knees are bouncing. You're already anxious about it."
"Shit." Yoongi curses, "Fuck, your mother is terrifying."
"It's just how the media portrays her to be." Seokjin consoles him. "Honestly-"
"She's way worse behind closed doors."
Both men flinch at the voice. "How the fuck did you get in here, Jungkook?"
"Did you give him my studio's new password?"
"Do you think I will ask him what he's doing here if I did?"
"Whoa, hyungs the tension is high here."
"Imagine meeting what the business world calls the Satan of the Chaebols, you think it wouldn't create tension?"
Jungkook shrugs. "It's just Mom."
Seokjin deadpans.
"It's your mother. This is the same person who took your PlayStation and not let you use it for 3 months just because your back wasn't straight when she saw you playing." Yoongi reminisces that one time they went out for Skewers when Jungkook just debuted. He inwardly snorts at upon realizing it's the same night that he first saw Seokjin and he discovered that the boy mooching off his meager idol salary was a chaebol.
"Yeah, well, still. She made me pancakes this morning." Jungkook shrugs.
Seokjin sighs. "Babe, focus, my mother?"
"Yeah, fuck. Of course I'm going." Yoongi crosses his legs to stop himself from bouncing it.
"Where?"
"Our house of course." Jungkook bounces at the sofa. "Mom doesn't like eating out."
"Of course, she doesn't." Yoongi exasperates. "Ah, fuck. Shit, I need to control cursing while we're with your mother, don't I?"
Seokjin's back straightens. Yoongi's never seen Seokjin this stressed. Managing four companies and a foundation and he's never seen him outside of perfect.
Jungkook snorts again. "Hyung, you curse at 95% of your discography."
"Fuck," Yoongi exhales with his hands to his face. Jungkook snickers behind him.
"Korea's number 1 rapper who cusses even the government is this stressed over a 62-year-old woman."
"This is your MOTHER." Yoongi emphasizes. "I'm like, the total opposite of what he hopes his son would date."
Seokjin kicks his ankle in protest. "My mother wants someone kind. You're the kindest behind that indifferent rapper image you're trying to maintain."
Jungkook fakes a disgust. "It's not going to be that bad. It's not like she'll offer you money, so you'll stay away from him. You're doing well yourself."
"I'll double whatever she'll offer." Seokjin repeats, squeezing Yoongi's knee to comfort with a small smile.
"The fuck are you two talking about." Yoongi adds the dinner to his calendar and highlights it red so his secretary would not even dream of scheduling something that night or accept any last-minute appointment request. Calm, he insists. He's calm.
"Yeah, I think you should tone down the cursing, just for that night." Seokjin agrees.
"Again," Jungkook collects his things. "He curses as his songs."
Yoongi moans in frustration. "Fuck, Ah-" He pauses. "Should I just unrelease them all? Does your mother go through SNS these days?" He backtracks all the recent issues or scandals associated with him and immediately thinks of a way how to negate all of them. "I think there was a drunk driving scandal 2 years ago that still had a few articles until last year."
Jungkook let out a hearty laugh as he exits Yoongi's studio, leaving the two to discuss what they need and skipped to meet his members for practice.
.
.
.
"I think the worst thing here is you've been dating for 4 years, and you never told her." Hoseok reasons with Yoongi as he paced back and forth in his dance studio. "You're a great guy, hyung. You pulled yourself up with nothing to back you up."
Yoongi flops on the floor beside Hoseok. "I know, it's just..."
"You're not the exact person his mother would expect Seokjin-hyung would date?"
Yoongi nods, picking on the loose thread off the tips of his pants. "You think it'll go well?"
"Hyung, you're the kindest person I know. I remember you debating if you should release Daechwita in case others would misunderstand that it's for the people you don't intend to send the point across." Namjoon interjects.
"I'm still pissed you didn't record 'HUH?!' with us." Yoongi warns.
"Love you, hyung." Namjoon grins. "It'll be fine."
"I hope so." Yoongi quiets for a bit. "You think I should dye my hair black and get a haircut?"
Hoseok gasps. "If Seokjin-hyung's mother won't kill you, your own mother will. She loves your long hair."
Yoongi hums. "My mother comes first, of course."
"But the black hair would be a good call then. Unless you'd want Seokjin's mom calling you an overgrown mandarin orange."
Yoongi hits Namjoon with his slipper.
.
.
.
"I heard."
Yoongi hums.
"When is it?"
"In 3 days."
Sigh. "I'm going to miss you."
"I'm going to throw this dumbbell at your face, Taehyung."
Taehyung sends him an ear-splitting grin. "You'd never."
"He's looking over his life insurances this morning."
Yoongi glares. "Jimin, you shouldn't be this rude to people older than you. I was looking at it because I was supposed to pay for a renewal."
Jimin and Taehyung giggles and high fives. Jungkook arrives just in time with their chicken order.
"I think he's also considered transferring his assets to Yoon Seo hyungnim." Jungkook joins then on the floor already opening the packages of chicken, evading Yoongi's attempt to smack him.
"Brat."
"If anything, hyung, black hair was a good call." Jungkook nods as he takes his first bite. "I thought you'd go to far until cutting your own hair and risking your own mother disowning you."
Yoongi snorts. "My mother is above yours."
Jungkook gasps dramatically. "Don't let my mother hear that."
"Don't let mom hear what?" Seokjin walked in. "Where's Yoongi?"
Seconds in, Seokjin yells in surprise. "Where's my baby mandarin orange?! Why is your hair black? Who are you?!"
Yoongi was chuckling as he stood up to give Seokjin a quick peck with the younger ones complaining behind him in fake disgust. "Stop being ridiculous and just eat your chicken."
"Why the fuck did you kiss me? I have boyfriend!" Seokjin protests while stopping himself from stifling a laugh. "I'll tell you on him and get you kicked out of Hybe!"
"Yes, yes, I'm so scared please don't report me." Yoongi concurs to Seokjin's whims, his arm snaking around his waist as they sat down. "Eat, your majesty."
Seokjin pouts. "I'll miss the orange hair."
Yoongi hums as he munches on a chicken leg.
"I hate my mother for making you do this."
He hums again. "I'll just color it again if she doesn't kill me at point blank rage."
"Yoongi-yah," Seokjin gasps. "Language. My mother is a businesswoman, not a murderer."
"Same thing." Jungkook mumbles.
"She'd make a great hitman." Jimin agrees.
"I'm pretty sure she has perfect aim." Taehyung follows through. "You've seen that one interview where they asked her what is her stress reliever and she says target practice, right?"
"My mother does archery, assholes."
With the rest of his friends Hoseok and Namjoon coming in and joining them, they finish their dinner with light hearts and Yoongi momentarily forgetting the terrors of meeting his mother-in-law in the next 72 hours.
.
.
.
"Oh honey. I'm sure it'll be fine." Yoongi's mother's voice echoes around Yoongi's bedroom in their weekend calls. He wouldn't tell his mother about this but, he looks forwards to every Friday, and he's especially thankful that he can vent to his mother the day before he dies.
"Do you think it's fine if I wear this?" He holds up a white button down and a pair of dressy trousers. "Is it too much?"
"Of course, it's too much." His mother giggles. "Honey, you're meeting your mother-in-law, not the President of Korea. The button down is fine but just wear normal, non-ripped jeans and you'll be fine."
Yoongi sighs. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about Seokjin, mom."
She laughs, her age showing at the corner of her eyes. "You've been a very private person since you were a child, Yoongi. I knew you had someone since before, since you're so chirpy now and I actually feel that you like talking to me."
"I like talking to you." He pouts.
"See? You even tell me those things now." She giggles. "Before, you just give me a thumbs up and a smiley face whenever we text. Seokjin is good for you."
"I know. I'm trying to be good for him as well, mom."
"I'm sure you are. I raised you." His mother scoffs. "And judging by how you're glowing nowadays, I say the relationship behind closed doors are doing good as well."
Yoongi almost chokes on his drink, and he coughs. "Mom!"
"What?! I'm married, I have two children who are consenting adults and earn their own money with remarkable careers, there's nothing wrong with exploring. You're 32, Yoongi!"
Yoongi makes a disgusted face. "For the sake of my health, I'll pretend I never heard that."
His mother suddenly pulls off a serene expression. "Be proud of who you've become, Yoongi. I know me and your father did not really give you a nice head start, but you did so well on your own. There's nothing to be afraid of."
Yoongi frowns. "You gave me everything I needed and more, mom."
"Oh, you know what I mean. We weren't exactly wealthy." She trails.
There it is, Yoongi thinks. Money was always tight with his family growing up, given that his father was sick, majority of his childhood and his mother's heart problem. They had a decent home and eats complete meals, but it's always been borderline for them. He remembers having to choose between eating out with his friends or taking the bus home during his teenage years. But Yoongi's heart never held grudges. Life is just like that sometimes and circumstances are just circumstances.
"I'm just a little worried that you'd think that since Seokjin is from the Kim family..."
"I grew up well and did not go hungry, mom." Yoongi comforts her. "I'll always be grateful."
"Ah, the mood went south, didn't it? I was just talking about your sex life."
Yoongi's face crumples again. "Mom, even if you're my number one-"
"Damn right I am. If you cut your hair, I will disown you."
He ignores her threat. "-my sex life is none of your business."
His mother laughs. "Go to sleep, honey. Tell me all about it tomorrow, okay?"
"Mmm." Yoongi reciprocates the gummy smile he got from his mother.
"I'd like to meet Seokjin as well soon."
"Of course, mom. I'm sorry again."
"As long as your happy, Yoongi." She comforts again, face solemn and genuine.
"I am." Yoongi looks over a photo of him and Seokjin when they went to Thailand, a few years younger and hair shorter. "Very."
"Then that's all we mothers need, really." She sends him an air kiss. "All we want is to make sure our kids are happy."
.
.
.
Yoongi already regrets waking up.
He opted to not have plans before the dinner in case he gets immersed in work again and forget about his appointments. He remembers once when Seokjin almost killed him for making him wait for him for 2 hours because he was too immersed in an instrumental he was building.
He barely registers the remainder of the morning due to him dreading the dinner later into the day that he does not hear the doorbell ringing until someone was pounding against the door.
He inwardly curses and slaps his mouth as a reminder of his language as he walks towards the door. He finds the three youngest at his door, carrying food.
"The fuck are you doing here?"
"Wow, this is what we get when we went here to encourage you and help you prepare." Jungkook frowns and makes his way inside Yoongi's living room with the other two in tow." Jimin insisted on helping you get dressed.
"Wanted to make sure you didn't come in your ripped jeans." Taehyung muses.
"I wasn't going to, asshole." He replies, closing the door behind him.
"This is good." Jimin shouts from his bedroom. Yoongi thinks that he needs to teach them manners again, but he adores how they worry about him. "Let me fix your hair."
He lets them do what they want to him, mental capacity unable to fight against the youngest ones' whim. The feeling of being taken cared of was always something he welcomes, and he knows that he does not need to verbalize it. They understand him in ways he appreciates.
"Father says he doesn't particularly dislike you." Jungkook muses. "He's just pissed that he knew after four years. But he likes your reputation, hyung. I think it's also because, except for your grumpy attitude, your music is great."
Yoongi frowns. "I'm good at my work."
"Yes, yes, Mr. Billboard no. 1 rapper." Jimin hums as he ruffles Yoongi's hair one last time. "There, done."
Yoongi looks at himself. He's used to getting his hair and make up done but, Jimin knows how to make him look presentable the best. Barely any make up except for a little grooming of his eyebrows and a tinted balm, the expresses a silent thanks, reminding himself to ask Jimin how he did this hairstyle on him when he's in a better mood.
"You should eat. Mother would probably serve grass again later." Jungkook places take out food on the dining table and immediately starts eating.
The rest joins him on a silent late lunch, glancing at the clock occasionally to make sure they don't leave too late.
"Hyung." Jungkook starts.
Three heads point towards him but his eyes meet Yoongi. He gives him a soft smile.
"Whatever my mother says, I'll defend you."
Yoongi grins. "I know you would."
"I'll never say this in front of my brother, but he means the world to me." He swallows, words thick on rare emotions he says out loud. "Since you met each other, I've never seen him look so alive and happy. I know it was because of you, and how you love him right."
Yoongi's heart swells. He knows that Jungkook has always been a sweet boy, even before he dated Seokjin. Even if they did not end up together, he would still see Jungkook as a younger brother, brat mode or not. "Thank you."
"You've taken care of us so well." Jimin continues. "And we love you as if you're blood family. Trainee life and even after debut would have been hell if it weren't for you, and Namjoon-hyung and Hobi-hyung."
"Yeah!" Taehyung smiles, cheeks full of food. "And no Satan of the Business World could change that!"
"I know you well enough that I'm sure you're already thinking of things that don't make you enough. Seokjin-hyung told me once that you do it all the time." Jungkook grimaces. "If being hard on yourself worked-"
"It would've worked by now." Yoongi grins. "Seokjin always tells me that."
"And it's true." He stabs the rest of his galbi with his chopstick. "My brother could do worse."
"There you are." Yoongi laughs. "I thought I lost the brat I know."
"Eh, you love me either way."
"'Course I do."
"And I had to make sure I told you this before you die."
"Yah." Yoongi threw a tissue at him.
.
.
.
Yoongi has never been more terrified in his life before he saw Seokjin's mother coming in her button down and Birkin just coming in after work. They exchange pleasantries on the dinner table and the servants immediately began serving appetizers.
Yoongi now understands when Jungkook tells him that they're the perfect split of their parents. The cameras registered their features well but, Seokjin's strong features were from his mother. The pillowy lips, this nose and the shape of his face. He got his eyes from his father, and his eyebrows were the mix of both. Jungkook got the exact opposite share. His fascination distracted him long enough for his heartbeat to calm a little.
Their father broke the silence first, congratulating Yoongi on his recently Billboard ranking for his latest album, and how he was a fan of rap when he was younger. They exchanged interests in Eminem, and agreed that Jay-Z should rerecord some of his songs. They also talked about his time when he was younger on the underground rap scene and Yoongi expressed his amazement on how Seokjin's father knew about some of the famous underground rappers.
"Young-K's father was a friend." He grins. "When were in university, we shared common interest in music but I had familial duties to follow, so it only remained an interest."
"You wanted to pursue music?"
"Oh, heavens no." He laughs. "I have no talent for it. But I did want to fund artists before."
"Have you?"
Kim Jeong-Woo grins, and Yoongi almost sees Jungkook 30 years from now. "Si Hyuk did say I saved his company when I invested.
Yoongi visibly gapes. "You were the anonymous investor."
He laughs at Yoongi's surprise. "I wanted to help my friend. And, honestly, I saw you three before. RM, Jhope and you, walking around the neighborhood arguing about a beat so passionately that I felt terrible if you had to stop doing what you love just because they didn't believe you enough."
Yoongi could cry, if not for a piercing stare Seokjin's mother was giving him from the corner of his eye. "I- I never knew."
"Me neither." Seokjin speaks up, posture unusually straighter than usual, making Yoongi sit more upright than he already is. "Abeoji, I never knew you invested in entertainment companies."
"It was a one-time thing. And honestly I felt lucky that day."
"Don't tell me the money you invested was from gambling." Seokjin's mother, Kim Na Ri spoke up the first time after the pleasantries from earlier made Yoongi flinch. Seokjin has always complained at how his mother calling him scares him. He understands now, hearing how she speaks in real life.
"It was most definitely from that." Jeong-Woo laughs loudly, immune to Na Ri's strict demeanor. "It was the first time I won and for luck, I invested it."
Yoongi was still processing that it was Seokjin's father who saved their dream years back.
"I guess my lucky streak paid off."
"I," Yoongi was at a loss. "I don't know what to say."
Seokjin reaches for his knee and squeezes it in encouragement. He knows the story of Yoongi's difficulties in BigHit's early years. How he himself was hesitant about when Jungkook told him he wanted to sign up for Big Hit instead of JYP. "I didn't know that, Dad."
"You never asked?" Jeong Woo shrugged. "And honestly I didn't want anyone else to know. Your grandfather would've killed me if he knew."
Jungkook scrunches his nose. "I'm so glad you did not end up like grandpa. When he was alive, I felt like throwing up whenever we're going to visit him because he would always ask me which Business School I'd want to go to growing up."
Jeong Woo smacked Jungkook's head. "Brat. If I didn't grow up with him as a father, how do you think I survived 37 years of marriage with your mother? It's as if I married my father, honestly."
"That sound so wrong, Abeoji." Seokjin complains. Hand eventually wrapping around Yoongi's under the table.
It doesn't go unnoticed. Na Ri clears her throat. "Jungkook told me you almost unreleased your songs last week."
Seokjin chokes on his steak and Jungkook's drink almost came out of his nose. "Mom, I told you not to mention that!" He gestures towards Yoongi who's slowly mouthing 'I will kill you.' to Jungkook.
"Well?"
Yoongi stills and shifts towards Seokjin's mother's direction. "Well, I-"
"I heard it's because you curse a lot in those."
Yoongi bit his inner cheek. This is it, his mother will offer him a billion won so he will stay away from his son. He imagines how he will turn her down, and how much he loves Seokjin and he wants to stay with him until he lets him.
"I've listened to your releases, Yoongi. My husband isn't exactly secretive of his musical taste." Na Ri reaches for her drink. "I don't think exposing my children to that is quite healthy."
"Mother, I'm 33." Seokjin answers.
"So?" Na Ri questions, eyes thinning at Seokjin. "You're still my son even when you're 70."
"Yoongi-hyung has nothing but healthy for Seokjin-hyung." Jungkook defends. "You've seen how his performance at work improved since they started dating."
"Ah, yes, which was 4 years ago and I never heard until I mistakenly overheard your plans on celebrating it in Hongkong next month." Na Ri hums as Jungkook winced. Bad move.
"I-" Yoongi closes his mouth the when Na Ri looked at him as if saying she's not finished talking yet.
"So what do you mean by taking someone to Hongkong?"
It's like cold water was poured over Yoongi. Seokjin is a consenting adult. He has never coerced him into doing things with him that he was not comfortable with. It's bad enough that there had been a lot of scalding articles about Seokjin the moment he came out as Bi to the public, which he recently discovered that he mother was against. She did not care about his sexuality, since her sister, their aunt, was married to a woman and is now living in California. Privacy was sacred in their family, but Seokjin was keen on helping their gender to be more accepted in Korea.
It backfired well, Seokjin told him. At first there were a lot of deals that almost did not push through because their stocks plummeted for a few weeks but, since a lot of the new generations of Chaebols were people Seokjin knew and grew up with, their good reputation doubled.
It was also the time where Yoongi released a few songs and conducted interviews where he expressed that his type was not exactly exclusive to women. He met Seokjin 3 years after that. He realizes it's been 5 years since then, and he doesn't remember one dull moment he had since.
"I-" Yoongi stuttered.
"Dear, don't pester Yoongi. It's how young ones do it in the scene."
"No, I need to know what he intends to do with Seokjin. I have his best interest at heart." Na Ri reaches over her bag, which caused Yoongi to panic.
"No matter what amount you offer me, Eomonim, I will choose Seokjin." He said with conviction, stutter already lost from the conviction of staying and the promise of growing old with him. "I intend to stay with him for as long as he lets me."
Seokjin whispers to Yoongi, "Forever."
Na Ri narrowed her eyes and let out the envelope.
"Eomonim, huh?" She laughs. "You dare."
Yoongi stands his ground, gripping Seokjin's hand tightly, ready to fight. He did expect this. He can give Seokjin a good life if his mother disowns him, given if Seokjin would choose him, of course. But the determination in Seokjin's eyes was there, even if he barely spoke during dinner. Yoongi understands that Seokjin was raised with an iron fist and he has been scared of his mother since he was a child.
Na Ri continues as she twists the string to open the envelope in her hands.
"You grew up in Daegu, your father was a construction worker, and your mother owned a Kimbap shop. They got sick causing money to be tight as you grew up. Had to work since 16, graduated with mediocre grades in a public high school and moved out before you started university. You still sent money to your parents with what little you could earn. Finished a business degree but did not make a career out of it because you spent most of your time playing at underground rap battles."
"He was following his dream, mother." Seokjin speaks up. "He has been working hard, injuring his shoulder because he had to work and deliver food at night before he even came to those battles."
"He could have just studied instead if he had so much free time cursing the wits out of people who are older than him." Na Ri scoffs. "Whatever he achieved after was out of pure luck. Only 1% of the people who had their music career take off. Do you think that kind of wishful thinking is healthy for my future grandchildren?"
Seokjin's ears were red, and Yoongi could see anger bubble in Seokjin's already pink neck. This is how he knows his anger was real. How his color changes and how warm his hands become.
"Eomma!" Jungkook protests. "That's too far even from you!"
"Yoongi is lucky, sure." Seokjin tried to control his tone still. He did not want to make it worse for Yoongi when the night has already taken the worst turn. But he goes on, "But he worked hard for it too, mother. Don't you know how difficult it is to be at the right place and the right time and the decisions you must make to be in the correct spot where luck falls??"
"Seokjin, it's okay." Yoongi tries to calm him down. "She's right."
"No! I saw you work. I saw how you care so much about the career you fought so hard for, and it took you 17 years of hard work and being hard on yourself to get where you are now. You are kind to your dongsaengs, respectful to your sunbaes. I will not let anyone insult you, especially in front of me." Seokjin was almost shouting at this point. Yoongi's heart warms with overwhelming love for the man in front of him, and he already thinks about the ring he has in his office drawer. He's purchased that when he went to Europe for a tour, even before the moment came that he realizes he wants to marry him.
And this moment was it.
Na Ri snorts, cutting Seokjin's rant and ignoring it. "But even with those undesirable circumstances and only receiving support later on in your life, you've grown to be a kind person."
Yoongi's emotions went from depression, to insulted, to nervous, to angry, to accepting, then confusion. Na Ri laughed, as if she's seeing the question mark forming on top of his and Seokjin's head.
She took out a copy of Yoongi's latest released album from the envelope and placed it in front of Yoongi. "Frankly, I wanted to ask for an autographed copy of your album. I was over the moon when the artist that I genuinely liked for his honestly was dating my son."
"The fuck is happening right now." Jungkook suddenly blurted.
Jeong Woo was silently snickering at Yoongi and Seokjin's faces, when stopped when he saw Na Ri frown. "Ah, Jungkookie, you know we don't curse in this house."
"Sorry." Jungkook mumble. "What?"
Na Ri grinned. "Did you think I'd offer you a billion won to leave my son alone?"
Yoongi gaped. "What is with you Kims and your inherent ability to read my mind?"
Na Ri laughed. Seokjin's face turns redder by the second. Yoongi realizes that Seokjin's genuine laughter was inherited from his mother.
"Well, child? I'm waiting." She again waves the pen over to Yoongi.
"This is what you get for not letting your children in your office." Jeong Woo scolds his wife. "If they saw your records drawer, then they wouldn't have had suffered this last hour.
"Eomonim!" Seokjin whined. "We were dying this past week. You could've told me!"
"You never asked!" Na Ri chuckled. "And it was fun messing with you, Mr. Tongue Technology."
And for the love of God, she winks at Yoongi.
"Private investigators and having so much money you don't know where to put it has its perks, you know?"
He might've fainted then and there, but it's between him and the Kims now.
.
.
.
"And she was a fan of yours?"
Yoongi nods absentmindedly as he's eating dinner with Namjoon and Hoseok. "I still couldn't believe she had all my albums.
"All of them?" Hoseok gapes.
"Yours too."
"Ours too?"
"Even Mono." Yoongi swallows. "Well, she had someone make a vinyl out of your songs."
"What the fuck."
"What he said." Hoseok repeats.
It's been 3 days since the dinner and Yoongi felt a great shift in his life. He was added into the family Group Chat the next morning, and Na Ri sending him baby pictures of Seokjin that Seokjin swears he has never seen before. Just this morning, their CEO stormed to his office, demanding an explanation as to how the fuck did he get an email from Kim Na Ri asking if there was a way she can provide any financial help to their expansion to the US.
Non-verbatim.
"And now we're getting the funds to construct an office in LA. What the fuck."
Yoongi shrugs. He doesn't concern himself with the administratives of their label. It's what the executive are for. All he's thinking right now is...
"I'm going to ask Seokjin to marry me."
Namjoon chokes on his drink and Hoseok just downright gapes.
"I already have a ring."
The two looked at each other and to Yoongi. The only expression they could make was of surprise, and a nod.
"I mean," Namjoon cleared his throat after a few minutes. "I'm not even surprised."
"Your verse in Skool Luv Affair was a dead giveaway." Hoseok nods.
Yoongi snorts, drinking his coffee cup dry, already thinking of a way how to ask Seokjin.
.
.
.
Yoongi went back to his house welcomed by Seokjin and Jungkook playing Mario Kart in his living room. This wasn't the first time it happened, and he already gave up on trying to make Seokjin stop telling Jungkook his door password. He sits on the sofa, giving Seokjin a kiss on top of his head as he opened a can of beer while he watched the two curse at each other and Seokjin beating Jungkook, as usual.
"Yah, why are you cheating!" Jungkook complained.
"Crazy that you think my success has a connection to your failure." Seokjin raps.
Yoongi chuckles at Seokjin quoting one of his songs. He notices a ring on Seokjin's left finger.
After staring it for a few seconds, his blood runs cold.
"Where did you get that?"
"Yoongi-yah. That's your song. How can you not recognize your own lyrics?"
Yoongi rolls his eyes. "Not that. THAT." He gestures to his hand.
"Oh, this?" Seokjin looks at the ring. The exact ring Yoongi bought in Paris. "I've had this since last month. It's so obvious you don't clean your office, Yoongichi."
"How did you-"
"Well, now that our parents know of you, can we get down to the wedding plans?" Jungkook announces.
Yoongi almost fell on his feet when Jimin, Taehyung, Namjoon and Hoseok appeared from his kitchen, with a gigantic pot of ramyeon and seven bowls and set it in the middle of the floor beside Jungkook.
"You!" Yoongi points at Hoseok and Namjoon. "You knew!"
"In my defense, it's you who never noticed. Seokjin-hyung's been wearing that ring for a while." Namjoon raises his hands.
"I did try to avoid wearing it when he's around." Seokjin nods. "But I did wear it a lot since I found it."
"So, that's nice. Will You Marry my hyung? Of course you would." Jungkook waddled to get the cups from Taehyung. "What do you think of inviting IU as the official wedding singer?"
"Isn't she busy?"
"She already said yes." Taehyung grins, waving his phone around with Ji Eun's contact flashing on the screen.
"Since when were you close enough to know her number?"
"Uh, since we collabed?"
"What the fuck is happening." Yoongi was so confused.
"Well, I hope you like your salad, coz a lot is going to happen in front of it." Jungkook shrugs.
"This is ramyeon." Yoongi deadpans.
"It has those green things in it, basically a salad." Jimin concurs.
"I can't believe you all."
Yoongi just watches Seokjin stare at their friends argue about their own wedding. Fingers interlaced and a content smile on his face. Yoongi suddenly feels a cold metal being slotted into his own left ring finger while he was distracted from scolding Taehyung and Jungkook from fighting over a duet with Ji Eun on the reception of the wedding.
"Wha?"
"I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to beat me to it."
"Huh?" Yoongi looks at the ring on his finger. "Hyung."
"Fucking secretary messed the delivery and we lost the ring I had made for you. The metal was pretty rare and hard to procure so I needed to wait for a month. Around the same time I found the ring in your office drawer." Seokjin winks.
"What did you just say?"
"That my secretary-"
"No, no, no." Yoongi cuts him off. "The first word."
"Fucking?"
"You never curse. You only curse when we're having sex."
"Can you be disgusting somewhere else?" Jungkook's nose crumples.
Yoongi ignores him. "You're cursing."
Seokjin shrugs and leans back the chair. "I mean, I'm spending my entire life with you. I'm bound to get your mannerisms one way or another."
Yoongi just stares at Seokjin as he's indifferent in what he just said. As if he didn't propose a lifetime with him on his coffee stained sofa in his own home where their friends broke in and is now planning their wedding and deciding on things without consulting them both.
"If it's any give away, I'd say yes even if it's a paper ring."
"Can you not quote Taylor Swift to me at this moment? You're ruining it."
Seokjin laughs, Yoongi joins him. The next second his lips are on his, and Jungkook just shoves them off the couch.
"Get a room, we're trying to plan a wedding."
And get a room, they did.
