Summary
It was a joke. A cruel sick fucking joke, but still a joke. That's why he was laughing, right?
Hollow eye sockets stared at the cave opening, lingering traces of magic clinging to the walls and the ground. He could feel the vibration of the ancient spell as he slowly trudged through the entryway. The draft that blew in smelled heavy and damp, but fresh as new scents danced around in his head. The darkness opened to a dim light, the world beyond bathed in a soft blue. He hesitated just at the mouth of the cave, uneasy about leaving the comforting shadows he's known all his life. He gazed out, and his eye lights flickered back to life at the nightly view.
The moon bathed the mountain side in a soft azure hue, the dark green trees glittering from the light hitting the lingering rain fall that clung to the branches. The sky carried few clouds, giving way to the freckles of stars that dotted above the mountain. In the far, far distance, golden and bright city lights could be seen peaking over the top of the trees below, but it was barely noticeable if one wasn't paying attention and it did nothing to dim the swirling galaxy above his head.
Was this real?
